The emergence of Sterling Moore

Moore is going to start again no doubt. He really missed a big tackle on Smith's TD. But other than that he came up big down the stretch. Has some work to do to get better, but he's the best we can throw out opposite Arrington right now.

So would you advocate or oppose a full-time move to CB in base, moving McCourty to safety full-time?

He made one awesome play (that apparently he didn't know the defensive call on) and one horrible one.

I wouldn't say he "emerged". Not after this past game.

Moore made two crucial plays at the end of the game to prevent a TD on consecutive plays.

Over the years we've seen many previously unknown players come up big, only to be cut the next year. I have a feeling this secondary will be overhauled in the offseason. I do like Chung, but the rest could be replaced. Too many times these guys are giving a huge cushion only to be beat. I think we can beat the giants, but i doubt Manning will have a hard day against this secondary ;)

Nicks, Cruz, and Manningham.

I'm thinking we'll see a lot of Moore as the nickel CB next game.

We'll see Arrington as the Nickel with Moore and McCourty on the outsides unless the Pats move McCourty to safety and have Molden out there.

A lot less Edelman, I presume then?

Was Edelman pretty much playing full-time nickle in the past 2 playoff games?

I haden't seen either Jones nor Molden out there in either game, until Arrington went down with an eye injury and Molden took oven his spot.

I don't know if anyone has said this, but I would support for move because I think McCourty may be one of our best safeties. It's astonishing how much better he plays with the game in front of him, at least late this season. He's one of our best tacklers and he has been pretty good in run support, I think he's still learning the proper angles to take, but I like him better than Ihedigbo.

He should play any time over Arrington. Arrington is terrible. By far the worst CB on this team. If it wasn't for the picks, he would probably be cut.

The Ravens picked on him over and over again. Pretty much every catch besides the Torry Smith bomb in the first half which was a miscommunication with McCourty at safety, was at Arrington and than Edelman in the 4th.

Enough is enough with Arrington. He sucks.

Sorry, but you are smoking cheap sh!t if you believe that.

In fact, your claim that every catch was the fault of Edelman and Arrington is total BS. Since you missed it, Arrington was out for quite a few snaps due to getting poked int he eye. That's why he came back late in the 3rd with a visor on.

Edelman didn't take many (if any) snaps at Nickel against the Broncos. He got a lot more playing time against the Ravens and he did pretty well matched up against Anwtuan Boldin.

ridiculous. more bad plays than good.

It's not ridiculous. What game were you watching?

Moore saved the day with 2 huge plays at the end. Ok, he missed a tackle on Smith earlier. I saw more good than bad, and Moore has been playing very well the last 3 games.

To the rest of the board posters: Moore might be a good option to put on Cruz. I don't like him as much on Nicks or Manningham.

He played 4 snaps vs DEN.

I would assume that since no one really played nickle, that we stayed with 2 CB's pretty much the whole game.

The only move was McCourty moving back to safety, where Moore took all of the snaps at CB opposite Arrington (with the exception of the last series).

I guess a better sample to look at would be the reg season finale vs BUF, due to their passing tendency. The DEN question was dumb on my part, as I wasn't fully thinking of the scheme used to defend their run. The only reason I asked was b/c I did not remember seeing much of Edelman.

Since we'll be using plenty, if not the majority of sub-packages in the SB, I would assume that you see McCourty, and Moore on the outside, with Arrington at nickle.

Edelman as a dime then? I wouldn't imagine much, if any 3 safety "big nickle" sets.

Of course that does not take McCourty moving to take any snaps at safety into acct though, either.

I would imagine either DMcC and Moore on the outside, with Arrington playing nickle, or in the case of moving McCourty to safety---Moore and Arrington on the outside, with Edelman playing nickle.

I think it will be interesting to see how many snaps McCourty plays at safety in the NYG game, as he is better utilized there in my opinion...BUT, with the 3 WR's etc I could see it going either way.

Just as an FYI to those fans watching on TV, the two big pass plays occurred because the safeties were totally confused about coverage right before the snap. You had Chung 20 yards back (and likely out of the TV screen) flapping his arms like a chicken in panic. Sure enough, big play. It is troubling that our DBs do not have the proper coverages or calls in place so late in the season (heck, the Super Bowl!!) but it's not necessarily because of a lack of availability.

I'll tell you what concerns me about the Giants. The TEs.

The refs are not calling Pass interference and I think we should take advantage of it. During the regular season, his second pass defended would have been called for PI. He was Revis like in the mugging of the receiver.

I sure hope BB isn't planning on putting Edelman in the slot vs Victor Cruz...

I think Sterling Moore's ceiling is RIDICULOUSLY high. Mike Reiss did a football journey on him and he didn't start playing football until his senior year of high school. This kid has all kinds of raw potential. That being said, he's very erratic and it wouldn't surprise me if he's the reason we win the Super Bowl or the very reason we lose the Super Bowl.

Sometimes I wonder if they know what they are doing on defense. You put a receiver on Boldin? It was right up there with Hobbs on Plax

I think he's the nickel back for now. He did have a good game and I do think he has potential though he needs to work on his tackling.

As DaBuinz mentioned, Arrington was playing with one eye.

McCourty is still the best CB on the team (Dowling might actually be).

I don't know about replacing McCourty full-time, but I think he made the two biggest plays of the game obviously. He played very well against Denver in the earlier meeting as well. He has definitely shown that he can make some big plays when he's on the field. I say that the Pats should definitely give him more playing time. He could be one of those "where did he come from" guys that BB has been finding his whole career here.
