Bedard:Pagano has Ravens in attack mode

Should make it easy for the offense, since it has clearly figured that defense out.

Well..scheme wise yes..but jets hardly had anyone to pressure the QB this yr. With better personnel it might be a tougher game. Plus ravens offense is a little better than the jets i think.

Let's remember, a lot of teams have the Patriots offense figured out. Can they stop it? Ravens defense presents problems due to their athleticism. You can't just say "we'll beat them if we don't turn the ball over." They'll try to force the issue.

LOOK, the Ravens are a good football team. This is not going to be easy. To many people expect a high scoring game. I don't. I expect to see a physical battle by both teams. I just don't want to see Ray Rice galloping 83 yards for a touch down.

I expect the ravens to hit brady also at least get one turnover. Really depends how critical it is and if our D can conversely even the turn over ratio. Pats havent won many games without a turnover on defense which is a big factor being overlookd.

I'm trying to remember when the Ravens' defense has NOT been in "attack mode". Seems to me that they're usually in attack mode even during their BYE week.

Its funny how nobody is talking about the Pats
pass rush. Its still there when the Pats need it. ;)

If Vollmer is active today, watch out. The depth of this OL is the best any Patriot team has ever fielded. SB 42 this ain't.

Exactly

An aggressive defense isnt always the best thing. They're vulnerable to misdirection plays, screens and delayed running plays.

Bingo

Drafting Solder and Cannon was a stroke of genius. I believe the NE OL wore down last season and they were exposed in the post season.

Look, the Pats are going to challenge the Ravens safties. Ed Reed was great, HOWEVER, he is playing with nerve damage in his shoulder, a strained ankle and father time is not exactly on his side. I doubt that Reed finishes this game. They are going to make him tackle Gronkowski, and he is not going to be able to do it.

Pollard made the eopic mistake of opening up his mouth this week. The Ravens have once good cover guy, Webb, they will put him on Welker or maybe Hernandez, the rest of thier secondary is nothing to get excited about.

Suggs has nine sacks against rookie LTs this year, he was invisible last week.

People under estimate how much of an effect a player like Darrelle Revis has on a defense. There is no Darrelle Revis, that should at least balance out the field match up wise for the offense.

I think that's a fair statement. They know a lot of what we're going to do. We're going to use our TEs to put pressure on the center of the field. We're going to try to exploit coverage mismatches when a LB is on Welker, or something, etc. We're going to try a couple screens and some draws. We're going to employ the play-action as much as possible. We're going to use the no-huddle to keep the defense stuck in certain personnel formations and try to get some free penalties when they are late on substitutions.

It's folly to think that the Ravens don't know, more or less, what this offense is going to do.

But understanding our offense and stopping it are two different things.

The only defense that allowed a lower completion percentage than the Ravens (53.8%) was the Texans (51.9%) and the Ravens (68.8) edged the Texans (69.0) for best in the NFL in QBR against.

The Ravens were 4th in passing yds allowed (196/game) and 3rd in yds/att (6.4).

The Ravens allowed a league-low 11 passing TDs; the Jets and Steelers were tied for 2nd at 15 TDs allowed.

The Ravens had a league-leading 108 PDs. Next best was SanFran with 100. League avg was around 65.

The Ravens had five players with 8+ PDs:
- Webb, 20
- Cary Williams, 18
- Pollard, 13
- Reed, 8
- Jimmy Smith, 8

The rest of their "non-DB" defense, LBs and DL, contributed 35 PDs.

Can't say I ~know~ better, but my guess is to contain Ray Rice, the defense will not go all out like in the Denver game. I expect Flacco to make some good plays against us.

P.S. all the talk about "how can the Ravens double-team Gronk, double-team Welker, and handle Hernandez and Branch" ... Ravens *must* go on attack mode. Single point of failure for New England is Tom Brady. Get to Tom and you won't have to double-team all the weapons.

Personally I think if VOllmer were active; (which he is out) it is the Pats who would need to watch out.

I think Solder/Cannon are much better answers right now. I dont know if Vollmer is still hurting so much; but I think the young guys have passed him by and he doesnt see starts in future (2012).
