Nothing is more annoying than that one. The Raiders tried it in the regular season.

Not that anyone should need any motivation, but someone please tell Mankins, Gronk, Wilfork, et. al that they are soft and will wilt after being smashed in the mouth.

Ricky has lost too many brain cells to the weed.

If you hit them in the mouth and you stand up to them, that's the way you play it," said Williams, who is quite familiar with the Patriots after spending the previous eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins. "I think when you're as good as they are, you get used to people kind of being intimidated. And I think when you show them that you're not, it automatically makes them have to change the way they’re used to playing, and that automatically gives us an advantage."

Listen, you are 60 minutes from the superbowl. If you need bulletin board motivation from the 2nd string RB to get you fired up for this game, they you shouldn't be on the field. If ANYTHING the Ravens have said prior to the game....or Borges.... or Marshall Faulk ...... or ANYONE is needed to motivate you, then you should be playing in this game.

YOU ARE ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE FREAKIN' SUPERBOWL. That should be all the motivation you need for this game.

Hey, I resent that!:D But seriously, I don't understand why players love to give the opposing team more reason to kick their ass...hopefully we'll send him back to his tree smokin' days for GOOD after tomorrow's game.

Funny, I didn't know the guy was still playing. At first I thought Ricky Waters? Where does he commentate at?

Ken, I'm sure the Pats are more than motivated to play this game but if you've played any competitive sports in your life younxhould know thst things like this may help grtting guys to play with a little more edge than normal. Two guys on the Pats that comesto mind are Chung & Spikes, I'm sure they're hearing this stuff and it's firing them up even more which will have a trickle down effect to the whole D as I look at them as the emotional leaders of their D.

While I agree with the bolded statement I would I would add:

If your manhood gets called out by some scrub and it doesn't piss you off, you shouldn't be on the field.

The irony that Williams needed a year off to smoke pot and heal, LOL.

Smoke em' if you got em' Ricky.

I really don't care what Ricky Williams says. LaDanian Tomlinson was a caught on camera saying the Pats were a finesse team in the first Pats/Jets game this year and the Pats won the game Grounding and Pounding on their defense.

The fact of the matter is this offense is living on the reputation of the past. This offense is far tougher than people give them credit for. Try to just lay wood on Gronk. He will lay wood on the ball as he spikes it in the endzone while you sit on the ground wondering why you didn't try to wrap him up rather than smack into him only to bounce off of him. I would love to see the Pats' receivers stats of yards after the first hit because I bet it one of the highest in the league because Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker do far better after the first hit than most receivers.

This team is far different than the teams that Ricky Williams played against while he was in Miami in recent years. I think even from the beginning of the year, the offense has corrected a lot of their flaws and even the so called "blueprint" to beat the Pats may not work anymore.

I firmly believe the Patriots were not motivated enough for the Jets last year, they came in overconfident.

They're human, it happens.

By the same token if it takes a scrub to question your manhood for you to play your best, you shouldn't be on the field either.

Way to pull a Rodney here. Williams didn't call them soft, but you twisted the words nicely. Someone like Branch is probably doing the same thing in the locker room.

Somehow the Eagles planning their victory parade was extra motivation.

The Steelers having their bags packed for the Super bowl was extra motivation.

Heck, even a fairly innocent statement by Sparano saying the division goes through Miami was extra motivation for a regular season game.

others?

You never know when opposing stupidity might help you out

It's getting to be a bit much now.

I think some of this is being manufactured in my head but its grown tiresome of players like Pollard, Williams, Suggs et al going off at the mouth. I'm also tired of hearing how tough and rugged this BAL defense is and how they'll come out and hit the Pats in the mouth bla bla bla.

I respect BAL and their defense but I'd really like to see the Pats dish is out and then some- and I think they will.

I see it differently. There is trash talk every game. When you win, you laugh at the trash talk, or shove it back in their face.
You don't play better because of trash talk, you comment about the trash talk after you win.
For example, when one team calls another soft, it doesn't effect who is going to win, but when the latter wins they will give a FU back.

Why would great coaches spend valuable time before a game talking about such stuff, if they thought that it is irrelevant with respect to inspiring or motivating anyone, even a little? It gets their attention. Lack of respect, or the perception of such, is a strong motivating influence, even among a group of already incredibly highly-motivated people.

I'm genuinely impressed that Williams has managed to keep himself in the league after that mid-career debacle.

Dude might be a little out there, but you can't question his toughness. He's one of the toughest runners, if not the toughest, runner of this generation. Just noticed he passed 10,000 yds in his last game. Interesting. It's pretty crazy that Thomas Jones is ahead of him in career rushing yards. Has there been a quieter 10,000 yard rusher? 5 years into his career, if someone told you he'd be in the top 25 all-time in rushing yards, you would have told you that they were nucking futs.

While I'm looking at the all-time numbers...it's pretty easy to frame the greatness of Barry Sanders with this statement.

The best RB of this generation, LaDanian Tomlinson, has played in almost 20 more games than Sanders, but he is almost 2,000 yards behind him career rush yards.

Agreed. BB himself told the team in the meeting the night before the SB against the Eagles about philly's plans for a victory parade.
