Pats and Steelers combined will have won 8 of the past 10 AFC Championship games

IF THE 49ers WIN
they will be the 11th different team to win the NFC in the past 11 years

Interesting stat. And yet, people this year felt the NFC was much stronger than the AFC.

The whole goal of the salary cap, draft order etc is to encourage what happened on the NFC side. Really makes what happened on the AFC side truely amazing...it wasn't suppose to happen that way.

With the Pats having won 5, Steelers having won 3.

Also, if NE and SF win Sunday: My prediction from last month of a Thursday night NFL opener, Niners at Foxborough, starts to look pretty good.

Great point. I'm just shocked that in 10 years (and maybe an 11th), that no NFC team has won more than once.

On the subject of who might be playing in Indy in a few weeks (I didn't think this quote warranted a whole new thread), I don't know if any of you saw the article on ESPN about the different possible match-ups for the Superbowl, but a Colts fan wrote this in the comments, and I thought it was kind of funny:

I cant start to utter my disbelief and the misfortune as a true blue Colts FAN of this season, to not only see my colts lay down but the possibility that TB and company may win a SB in my hometown. I feel like James Harrison just blind-sided me, I feel Suh stomping on my chest as he did on Thanksgiving, and confused like Phillip Rivers was for the first 15 weeks of the season. How is this happening? This was suppose to be our season, we were suppose to win the SB @ home. Had waited for this moment ever since they announced Indy as the 2012 SB host.

Still and all, when you think how many times this team of ours has won the AFC East, has been to the AFC Championship Game, and has been to the Superbowl, it is simply amazing.

Never in my lifetime had I expected to see New England win a superbowl, let alone 3 to date, Now there's a chance for a fourth. If we win and go to the Superbowl this year, that would be 6 appearances in 16 years. THAT is a truly amazing stat, especially when you consider that some teams have NEVER been there. that's more than 1/3 of the superbowls (since 1996) having a New England team present. Every three years. Yeah, I know it doesn't go like that, statistics and all, but work with me here. heck, if we go back to 86 (and those d@mned Bears) that still means 7 appearances in 26 years, (1986 to present) better than once every 4 years.

A pretty amazing team, I'd say. We are truly living in a golden age of sports here in New England.

Patriots, Steelers, and Colts are the only 3 teams to win the AFC since 2003.
