The funny thing is, the Pats and Jets have the same schedule next year, except:

The Pats play the Ravens, while the Jets play the Steelers.
The Pats play the Broncos, while the Jets play the Chargers.

Looks like the Jets will likely have a tougher schedule. I honestly think Gang Green will win 4-5 games.

Before they start dealing with the unknown have to decide what they will do with proven dudes like, BJGE, Anderson, Carter and Welker.

The Jets are 5 million over!!

First re-sign Welker and then....

Mario Williams!

I'm very excited about our schedule. I'd be shocked if we didn't end up winning the AFC East with the #1 or #2 seed.

Interesting, i actually think that is a tougher schedule than the pats in that case.. sucks to be them!

The one thing I don't care for in articles like this is that they don't take into account how many players on the current roster are under contract for 2012 or beyond, or more specifically how many starters/key subs are under contract for next year and beyond.

Team A might have a projected cap that is $25 million less than Team B, but if they have a dozen more players that are getting a lot of playing time due to become free agents on March 1, can they really be considered to be in a better position?

Besides, we're 48 hours away from the conference championship game. I suppose this information is relevant to fans of the three other AFC East teams, but I couldn't care less about the 2012 cap for (hopefully) three more weeks.

It's still worth looking at, and it lists the big name free agents we should all be concerned with.

I'm just happy the pats are in strong enough position that Welker should be all but a done deal.

The good news can free up $10 million of cap space too with some minor cuts like Ochocinco and Mike Wright and one bigger cut in Matt Light (or a restructure of him). Granted a franchise tag on Welker will take $9.4 million of cap space.

Now the question is whether that includes the 2011 unused cap number which is allowed to be pushed forward in 2012 because of the new CBA. The Pats had about $8 million in unused cap money in 2011.

I am not really a fan of signing big name Free Agents, however a couple of young veteran safties might not be bad for depth and ST purposes.

Gee OJ - Where do you think the Pats would be right now without Waters, Anderson, Carter, Moore and Moldin.

FA's are a fact of life in today's NFL and the Pats signed 2 first team all pro's. The key is NOT over spending and writing contract where its highly unlikely for the player to play to the value of the contract even if they play well. The perfect examples are Scott and Pace in NY. They are good LBs, but being just good doesn't do it given the overpriced contracts they signed

The Pats have more than enough money to re-sign Welker (about $8MM/) and sign one of the BETTER FA safeties (Landry, Goldson, Griffin, or Nelson. The Pats need big help at the S position and with 3 of the best prospects going back to college, this isn't the year to get it in the draft.

I wonder how Felgar is going to spin the Jets situation, because they are going to be hard pressed to do anything in FA this off season to fill all the holes THEY have. They will probably have 10 picks. A lot more than usual for them. They'd better hit on ALL of them.

One of the commenters at the end of the article makes the obvious observation that it's hard to say how much teams will be over or under next season because of the mechanism to move cap space from this season to next.

There are those 3, $1 million credits mentioned on Miguel's page that team's can take advantage of along with being able to move money forward without the stupid never going to be reached incentives that team's would put into contracts for this purpose.

The Jets have taken a lot of **** about not spending to the cap this year and getting some quality depth (they are something like $8 million under or so I believe).

This could be their genius GM knowing that in 2012 he will have to pay the piper and the extra 8 mill from this year will keep them from having to absolutely gut the team next year.

Of course according to the indispensable Miguel the Pat's could be as much as $13.5 million under for this season. Seems you can safely add another $10 mill or so that the Pats will be able to spend next year.

But Felger thinks that the Jets have been run better the last few years because they 'traded up' and spent on FA's. How's that working out for ya?

Sounds like we have about 25m before factoring in roll-over space and exemptions. Most of that would be to sign our own vets and rookies.

Welker 8m 24m/3 a lot guaranteed
Love 3m too high?
M. Anderson 3m too high??
Branch 2m
Connolly 3m
Slater 2m
adds to about 21m and rest for rookies
G. Warren veteran exemption

Cut Ocho and M. Wright retires and that saves 4m. Sign D. Goldson and B. Lloyd. Don't
really want to spend too much on Mario Williams. Would rather have the balanced roster.

It's a total pipe dream - and far from our most glaring need - but, in light of the recent scuttlebutt that SD will abstain from applying the franchise tag to Vincent Jackson, I'd love to see him in this offense. Imagine the nightmare it would cause opposing D-coordinators: which 6 1/2 ft monster do you want to leave in single coverage?

Brandon Lloyd would also be a nice (and likely more reasonable) addition.

It is a pipe dream or should be. The commissioner would go all Stern on us if they tried to sign VJ and Lloyd as well as resign Welker.

VJ..........................Gronk............................................................. Lloyd
..........Welker...................................................Hernandez

Sick! I need to go clean up now. :D

VJ is one misstep away from a year's suspension. Do not want (that said, IBBIT).

That would be so filthy! (Not to mention a really nice stable of running backs!) I honestly really meant VJ OR Lloyd, but just imagine the creative things McDaniels could do with that lineup, particularly in a no-huddle when you can bring a TE like Hernandez into the backfield and present the threat of a run.
