Look for Ravens to fake injuries during the game

This is nothing new ... most teams have been doing this, but on third down, Bal wants to get Ray Lewis off the field ... the only way to do this is to fake an injury to stop the Patriots No Huddle offense.

Hopefully the league will take notice of this and make some type of rule to prevent teams from doing this.

Didn't Goodell send a memo out about faking injuries earlier in the season?

Unfortunately, I doubt fines are sufficient discouragement, and the probability that the officials can/will flag it is close to 0.

Thus, I expect lots and lots of mysteriously timely Ravens injuries.

The thing we should do as fans when they do this is give them a standing ovation from the time they go down and an even louder one when they return.

Booing is bad. Because in the one instance where the guy is actually hurt it is terrible. I think a sarcastic standing ovation would do sufficiently to point out the embarrassing act.

No doubt we will see this at some point. But I'm pretty sure the league wont do anything about it until we fake an injury to stop some other teams no huddle. Actually I could be wrong but I do believe there is a rule? I'm sure the league would look at it and "re-emphasize" if we did it still.

True I was going to put that in my post. We all remember Willie's "injury" only to come back two plays later and make the stop on the goal line stand against the Colts.

Referees are not medical doctors so the league shouldn't put them in a position of making a judgement call as to whether or not a player is faking an injury.

It seems to me that the best course of action would be to require a player in that situation to have to sit out more than the current rule of only one play. The question is how much longer? Three plays? Five plays? That then becomes problematic with refs having to try to remember what player can't return and for how many plays, along with everything else they are doing. Perhaps you could have the replay booth official upstairs keep track of that and radio down if a player returns to early, but I doubt the league would go for that.

That leaves having a player be forced to sit for the remainder of that series as probably the best option. I used to feel that was a bit severe, but I'm coming around to thinking this is most likely the best alternative. It's really a combination of integrity (phony injuries) as well as player safety (not allowing them to return too quickly).

Instead of missing the next down they could make it so the player has to miss the whole rest of the time the opposing teams offense is on the field for that drive or something. I don't mind if it's once in a while, but teams have been doing it every down versus us and it's obnoxious.

While I wouldn't be surprised if we 'faked' an injury or two, I would be stunned if Ray came off the field on third down. Believe me, I wish he would. Let's just say he has 'issues' trying to cover backs and tight ends. Major issues.

I use the eye test. Ray is much slower in coverage now.

Like when Bernard Scott came out of the backfield over the middle and left Ray in the dust with one cut in the last Cincy game. Dalton threw a great ball and Scott dropped it, so it won't show up on any defensive stat sheet. It was an easy TD if Scott could catch.

I hadn't really picked up on him being beat by one cut more often as mentioned above, but you guys would certainly know better than I would.

If so, do you think it's because his reactions are slowing down, or because he is a step slower to get himself into the right position to make a play? Or is it a 50/50 combination of both?

I hate Ray Lewis because he's a scumbag thug who likes to hangout with murderers.

That aside, it's tough watching an all-time great when he starts losing it. In his prime he was probably under-rated as one of the best pass-coverage LB's there was.

I would love to watch Thuggsly getting blown past by AH and Gronk on Sunday. Sucks getting old Ray but at least you aren't in a cell.

I think he just runs slower. He made a great read on a screen pass to Foster in the most recent game, I think his reactions are fine he just doesn't have the horsepower any more.

He'll still make some plays because he's always had ridiculously good instinct. He can definitely be toyed with though by a great QB/game plan.

Play action, play action, play action. He wants to come screaming up into a running lane because he can. But he also needs to make that read so much earlier to get there. He knows he can't run with the likes of Hernandez and wants none of it.

Honestly he would probably look fairly average at this point if he wasn't playing behind those behemoths at tackle. Kind of reminds me of the demise of Bruschi who was obviously less of a player so his decline was more pronounced.

I also think Reed is more banged up then they're letting on. He'll play but the thought of him trying to tackle a raging Gronk in the open field makes my mouth water.

This game is going to be all about Suggs and Johnson on the outside making Brady step up and having Ngata all over him. If the DT's can't collapse the pocket Brady will step up all day. You might get to Brady a few times on the edges but the only thing that ever rattles him is pressure right in his face.

It's a good thing we have 2 pro-bowl guards. I hope like hell Mankins is healthy. I'd love for all of our pro-bowlers to miss the pro-bowl.
