September 2000, just over 11 years ago, I was wondering why we needed to keep a 4th QB on the roster in Tom Brady when we already had Michael Bishop.

By the end of that 2000 season, some Pats fans were wishing we had taken Shaun Alexander instead of trading that pick for Belichick.

Fast forward to now. With a Super Bowl win, real arguments can be made to place Brady and Belichick as the best of all time. There's still a good argument as it is.

No matter what happens in the next few weeks, this era of Patriots football has been a joy to be a part of and not many fans can say they've enjoyed the success that we've had for over a decade.

I still remember Brady playing pre season ... I could not believe what I was seeing. Such incredible poise and accuracy for a 6th round noob QB ... the rest is history.

I completely agree. I feel lucky to be a Patriots fan. This is the 6th time BB/Brady have been in the AFC championship together. It's unbelievable. There are some people who have never seen their team even win 1 playoff game. I'm enjoying every minute of this run.

Yes, Brady and Belichick are so good that they have essentially spoiled us.

As noted, the SIXTH championship game in 11 years!!! That's pretty sick.

Just to put things in further perspective, with all things being equal, once you make it to the conference championship round, you have a 25% chance of winning. So in sixth trips that would equate to 1.5 championships. With or without a Super Bowl win this year, the Patriots have already exceeded probability by winning 3 championships.

The very reason is that "all things AREN'T equal." Brady and Belichick are just that much better whene the stakes are higher.

When you look back, pretty weird that his 1st ever pre season game was the HoF game vs the 49ers.

A. vs the only QB's fmr team who is really in his class
B. Future home of his induction speech and bust.

Not only that, but it was the game where the 49ers realized they made a huge mistake that set them back 10 years. Taking Carmozzi over Brady haunts them to this day.

We've been so fortunate these last 11 years.

I actually remember an interview with Bishop where he talked about himself of course. He said that he will be a starting QB in this league some day.

Then he went and said something I remember that surprised me back then.

He said Tom Brady would be a starter in this league as well. He said probably even before him.

I remember thinking how odd that was for a backup QB to say about someone who was the 4th QB on the depth chart. A guy I had payed almost no attention to.

Never really gave it a second thought.

Definitely lucky to have him. Even if he never wins another SB.

Course a few more would be gravy ;)

I loved the pick
I can still rememer turning to my old man and tellin him he would be the future starting qb of the New England Patriots

of course I had no idea just how good he would be
didn't even really think he'd be quite as good as Bledsoe

SF drafted Tim Rattay AND Carmozzi that year.

It would be fun to read some articles from local/national news outlets from that season right now and throw it right back at them like borges, chb etc :)

I was wondering why Michael Bishop was even on the roster.
