Giants have played two games and on avg give up 11
San Fran gave up 32
Baltimore 13

We couldn't bring up schedule when Saints and Pack were putting up 40 on weak teams so no one can do it to us now. Denver beat a lot of these 'sexy' teams and were supposed to be stiff on D just like these three.

Is it wrong that I see us sacking and picking off Flacco a few times? I say we out defend the next two opponents considering part of defense is the opposing offense (remember turnovers lose games and BenJ doesn't fumble), what do you guys think? Are the media/fans setting up a big fail by claiming we can't beat these three (all I have read today)

How many points would our defense have given up against the Saints?

Based on the sample size of one game. I'm optimistic but flacco isn't as bad as the media tries to make him out to be. That being said we win by double digits

On the other hand the media makes Brady vs BAL look like Tebow vs the 85 Bears, which is why I can't wait to see them fail.

If we don't turn the ball over and keep Brady clean we should win this game. If we make stupid mistakes like Houston did we will lose. Our defense leads in this category because we played a high school offense. Fortunately Baltimores offense isnt the greatest and they have been a mediocre road team.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching this D all year is that the only stats that matter are the ones from the next game. I've been down on the D all year and for good reason, but they did look good against a so-so offense from Denver. Baltimore's offense normally wouldn't scare, but the way the Pats D can make an average QB look great does have me worried because Balt knows how to rattle Brady and it could take him a little while to get the Pats O firing on all cylinders. My hope is that the Pats D reads and listens to all of the negative crap being spewed about them and they play the Rodney Harrison "disrespect" card and have a HUGE chip on their shoulder come Sunday.

This stat is useless at this point, even more so when some teams had a bye.

I'm not prepared to annoit our defense as the next '85 Bears (that would make me Rex Ryan) but I liked what I saw vs. Denver...but that was Denver.

Still and all I agree with the comments and think that Baltimore is an opponent that we can handle.

I'm pretty much thinking that forcing Flacco to beat us is the way to go and yeah, I see us picking him off a couple of times under those circumstances. We beat the #1 rushing offense last week, now it's time to take out #2.

The defense played really well on Saturday, but you can't judge anything based on one game. It was really promising that they were agressive, swarming, disciplined, or what ever superlative you want to throw out there, but we need to see more before we can get too excited.

I'll say this. McCourty can't lose contain like he did this week on that one play. Rice will eat him up if he does that.

BTW, I think it is funny that the Pats dominated on defense (granted it was the Tebows), but the 49ers won is a shootout with the Saints.

I am truely impressed and amazed at some people's ability to find a downside to every win.

Flacco is that bad. If he didn't have that D and Ray Rice, he's a career backup.

I think it is the funnies that people are saying the Pats are doomed because this weekend "proved" defense wins championships as if the Pats didn't win this weekend or that the 49ers won because their offense went 85 yards in one minute in the final minute to win a shootout.

Sorry but holding tebown and the broncs to ten points isn't much of a sample size

Really, the teams that played the best defense won. SF played better defense than NO. The Giants certainly played better defense than GB, Bal played better defense than the Texans.

Unless you have a fast break track meet where the last team to have the ball wins the the key is which team plays better defense wins.

What you and other say about offense wins would only apply if defense wasn't allowed or dismissed ie two fast break basket ball teams that are only interested in Offense. Again where the last team to have the ball wins.

Isn't that the SF/NO game in a nutshell?

I'm not as versed in the details as some here, but I think the Pats' approach on defense v Denver will have some carry-over to this week. It was a very disciplined game plan — stay in your lane, stick to your assignments around the LOS. Seems to me that would be an effective approach to stopping Rice on those draws and screen passes to Rice, in particular.

I didn't see the very end of the game. I saw NO score and thought thats it. The next time i went back to the game SF had just scored the winning TD. At first i thought it was a reply, i still don't know how SF got down that close to throw that pass in such a short time. But One game doesn't equal a pattern, or prove anything.
