So I have a theory ...please hear me out.

BB is anxious to get Mcdaniels back and reports during pregame had BB and Josh involved in heavy conversation. Could BB leave a lot more control and influence to Bob and Josh so he could focus more on the D?

The defense looked so much more confident last night a staple of BB prepared team. I'm not saying he won't be involved at all...just saying he will be able to focus more on def game planning and coaching.

p.s. - I'm really excited to see what he comes up with next week for a game plan

Frigging genius.

Belichik lulls everyone into believing the Patriots defense sucks and then.........

HE TROTS OUT THE 86' FRIGGING BEARS

OMFG

HE'S A GODDAMN GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!

This is plausible IMHO. It seems to me Hoodie Jr. is one of BB's most trusted assistants of all time, probably at or beyond the RAC/Weis/Dante level. I can see BB having more time to focus on defense with Josh there to *ahem* supervise/advise/brainstorm with the offensive coaches.

beyond? I don't think so......

I don't think Belichick the defensive genius ever left, strategically speaking. The team's defensive failings, when they've happened, have been far more personnel-based than scheme-based, IMO.

If we do see a sustained turnaround, IMO, it will be more because Spikes and Chung got healthy, and McCourty at safety with Moore at CB ended up upgrading two positions in the secondary.

Maybe BB haad 2 weeks to prepare, healthy starters and played this team for the 2nd time?

Nah, must have been holding the dogs back for the post season...

I wish your second sentence was correct but the first sounds about right. Not to mention the execution by the personal.

If the Patriots can win the next two games and the D throttles the Ravens and 49ers/Giants then BB will have pulled the greatest punk job in the history of the NFL.

Let's start with Baltimore first.

This performance looked different than any other this season no?

Personally, I suspect confidence is mostly a result of good preparation, for which Belichick certainly deserves his fair share of the credit.

Still, there's something to be said about peaking at the right time. (Look no further than NYG/GB this evening.) BB has said before that a team needs to play its best football after Thanksgiving. Pats have certainly been on both sides of that one.

It was like night and day. This is the first time I've seen the defense play 60 full minutes in a long, long time. They had attitude.

More like an inability to run scheme until the personnel was up to speed. There has been a learning curve associated with this team. Good moments and bad. We are in the find out what we got stage. Denver and the way they treat the QB position grants certain luxuries in scheme. Let see them build off that experience.

It most certainly did. This was against a team that was mostly 1 dimensional (despite the win vs the Steelers and 316 passing yards). And don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see them play the way they did.

They were fast, agressive, disciplined and smart (specifically calling Ninko out on that).

temper your expectations on this defense. BB had a nice gameplan on a high school option offense. He's a great coach who had a perfect defensive gameplan. If they hold the Ravens to 10 points, I'll lead the defense is great parade.

Well said.
I kind of feel like this team can turn it around defensively like the 2006 Colts did in the playoffs…sucked all year then became stout in January.

I thought it was more a result of great execution because of great practice. I think sometimes, too much credit may go into schemes and personnel. But what it really comes down to is if all 11 players on D are synchronizing their games. It's like a symphony orchestra. The conductor can tell you what to do but everyone must also be in sync with each other.

Not only that but the offense played for 60 minutes and got off to a fast start for the first time in weeks. Except for the INT and Ridley fumble of course.

Actually, if the Patriots have a parade this year you shouldn't even be at it.

lets honestly hold off the praise for the D until they succeed against a team that runs more than 10 offensive plays. Denver basically ran four generic plays for the first half.

Now, the D is definitely playing better especially with Chung back. Hoping Spikes and the new secondary arrangement will lift the Pats D to a "solid" level since if pair that a solid D with the Pats O, you have a scary combination.
