Fisher to Rams

Good HC in the OTHER conference .... good news for us

Good. Let him teach his teams to injure NFC players for a while.

I wish him well.

Not really

Per NFL Network

Good. The last thing we needed was a competent coach in Miami. Especially one who looks the other way on dirty plays/players. He and Shannahan are from that same school.

Interesting how some head coaches are recycled immediately and others are not.

How much control will Fisher have over personnel? Could be key to his success.

He's smarter and less greedy and egotistical than I gave him credit for being. Took the best of a worst available situation. Although I imagine there are some Coltfreaks who got the same rude awakening that JETS fans will get when they realize Manning isn't coming there any more than Fisher was going to Indy. In St. Louis he has a punchers chance of succeeding. In the AFC or AFCE, silch. Manning will make a similar decision if it comes to that. SF, AZ, SEA...

Kronke canned his HC and GM. So more than in Miami where Ireland is still there and King Carl lurks in the wings. Probably walked away from a cool million or more in premium pay as a result. Not to mention the profile and lifestyle.

My thoughts exactly. I still blame him for shortening Rodney Harrison's prime. Bastard.

If the LOLphins were smart, they'd bring Marty Schottenheimer in as the HC. He'd get that team playing hard and making things difficult for their opponents.

After Ross totally treated Sparano like absolute garbage while he flirted with Jim Harbaugh, what coach with multiple options would want to coach for the Dolphins?

I think Fisher is overrated. He had six playoff years in sixteen years while in Tennessee (although he was Kevin Dyson having one yard longer arms away from winning a Super Bowl). I guess he is better than what the Dolphins options are now though unless they get lucky and bring in the next Coordinator who becomes a surprise success like Mike Tomlin (although he had a ton of talent and a winning management formula to help him be a success) or John Harbaugh (same deal with him).

He wanted to go to Miami and that $8M that came along with it. He just wouldn't accept having a boss between him and the owner. Definitely smart, probably less greedy (though as organizational god he will make more jack over time) and totally egotistical.

Yeah, if true. Things are looking up for a great Patriots holiday weekend!!

But they are not smart, so we'll probably see BRIAN Schottenheimer for HC of Miami in the next couple of days.

Just saw LaCanfora reporting on this on NFLN and he basically said Fisher wanted nothing to do with the AFC East (odds of getting into the playoffs are better in the volatile NFC West).

LaCanfora also had Brandon Lloyd on (!) and Lloyd was all praise for Fisher (naturally), saying how he did well with McNair and adapts to the players he has.

When did Fishing become a "Coaching Great?"

Rams make good move in hiring Jeff Fisher as coach - NFL - Sporting News

Personally, I've found Fisher to be mediocre. He' abuses his RBs and doesn't put faith in his QB to pass the ball with any consistency. And, in Bradford, he's got a pretty immobile QB. Something Fisher has shown he doesn't care for.

To be fair, Steve McNair is the only good QB he's had, really. I can't really criticize the guy for being unwilling to put the ball in Vince Young's or Kerry Collins' hands more than he has to.

On the other hand, you're spot on with the RB thing. He's probably the #1 reason why Chris Johnson held out for that monster contract. Johnson knows that, with all of the miles that Fisher put on him already, there's a good chance that he'll be out of the league within 4 years.

Interesting. When Brandon Lloyd was on with LaCanfora he was talking about how FIsher was a player's coach not because he pampers them, but he understands the wear and tear a season puts on players. IIRC, Lloyd specifically mentioned running backs.

Lloyd might want to go ask for Eddie George's opinion on Fisher, then. I doubt that it would be a glowing report. Fisher had him averaging 340 carries per season for 8 years, including a 400 carry season. It's no wonder that George only averaged over 4 YPC twice, and was out of the league by 31.
