Jeffrey Lurie set to announce that #Eagles head coach Andy Reid will return for his 14th season in 2012.

Twitter

So yesterday was about coaches getting fired, and today (at least so far) seems to be about coaches being retained.

Dream Team. 2012. I believe.:rocker:

It would have been stupid to drop Reid. With all the success he's had, you don't dump him because a team full of free agents didn't come together. (in a year with no offseason workouts)

Andy Reid is a good coach, see if he bounces back in '12.

I have always felt that Andy is a media fabrication. He better get Spags onboard and hope he can replicate what his mentor did for most of Reid's illustrious career... He's had one foot out the door for like 4 of the last 6 seasons...and he manages to win just enough to hang on and rally his media supporters. He'll be gone once Killer is finished, which could be any time now.

Agreed. Reid is a winner. Reid is surviving a transition from a franchise quarterback in McNabb to wherever they go after Vick. Vince "Dream Team" Young? Maybe.

The thing for Jeffrey Lurie is who replaces Reid? You better have a very good answer for that before you dump him.

Smart decision for Philly.

this proves the eagles aren't stupid

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, pundits outside of Philly think fairly high of Reid. In fact the word was should he have been axed he would have been the leading candidate in San Diego (whenever that opens up)
The mediots in Philly are PO'd that he never answers questions during pressers:eek:

Lurie hints Reid will be on the hot seat in 2012 | ProFootballTalk

Reid goes to the top of the list of coaches on the hot seat in 2012...

He's been in and out of that seat more than once in the last several seasons... So Lurie's slow on the trigger but not totally dense...

I am so sick and tired of hearing how he's this great teacher and motivator and disciplinarian of men. His own kids were just the frosting on the cake... He mismanaged Donovan most of his career, just refusing to run the damn ball, he mismanaged his roster most of his career, he allowed TO to come in and tear his franchise apart, he miscalculated worse than Bill ever has on his secondary and that's made it hard to cover for all the other gaps in his roster, he's drawn to self absorbed talent like a moth to the flame. He's getting credit for turning Vick's career around when that turnaround (if you can call it that) was really driven by the league and the Feds and the bankrupcy courts and that PR tool who runs the HSUS. I guess on the plus side the idiocy of the Kevin Kolb must be worth a #2 cause Andy drafted him simply outweigh all his whiffs and his clock management debaucles and the consistent inability of his team to play sound situational football or ever run a hurry up offense... His seat will heat up as soon as Killer goes down in a heap again next season... Unless Spags shows up and covers his ample ass like Jimmy J did for years.

Indeed. They need to make some personnel changes on the field and allow Reid to clear away or put on very short leashes some of the head cases on that team. There's way too much focus on contracts and not enough focus on team in Philadelphia. That's what becoming big spenders in free agency will get you.

Allow him?? It's been his call all along in Philly...That's the problem.

I'd say bye weeks make you a little cranky.

Perception is reality in the NFL... And national mediots fuel perception. Andy talks to them. And quid pro quo is they talk up Andy.

One of the smartest coaches in the game...good move for Philly.

One of these days he will get beyond the NFC Championship and SB runnerup

So pray tell, what it is exactly he's so smart about?

Reid is a big part of the problem with some of their recent additions, but is by no means alone in calling the personnel shots.

Team president Joe Banner came in with Jeffrey Lurie in the early 1990s and helped re-build a mess of a franchise. Banner has a huge amount of say and the GM, Howie Roseman, is a capologist deluxe. Roseman is a Reid guy, for sure. Roseman is the guy who sorts out the salaries to allow for some of the recent moves and provided the writing on the wall to dump McNabb and Kolb in favor of Vick and the free agents.

The four of them are a real team when it comes to the composition of the team and the coaching staff.

I'm just curious about the mindset of some of you, because there seems to be a split in the way you're viewing a pair of coaches returning to their teams. I'm not saying that I either agree or disagree, but I am wondering about the underlying reasoning:

Why is it a good move for the Eagles to keep a coach that hasn't won a Super Bowl in over a dozen years, has 9 wins or fewer in 4 of the last 7 seasons, and has 46 total regular season wins during the last 5 seasons along with a 2-3 postseason record during that time, but a bad idea for the Chargers to keep Turner, when Turner's also had 49 regular season wins with a 3-3 postseason record in that same 5 season stretch?
