OT: Rashard Mendenhall has torn ACL

Denver clearly has no brains at all. They went with a guy who cannot throw a football as their starting quarterback.

If you are going to drink that kool-aid, then take small sips, not big gulps.

Ben R.'s ankle has to come around by next week. It's been a month already

Finally, someone with some common sense...

How long are some people going to keep proclaiming that "Big Ben is so hobbled, etc, etc?" He's no more banged up than the average QB at the end of the season.

His (grade 1--lowest out of 3 grades) ankle sprain was on Dec.8th, which is almost a full month ago. He didn't even miss the rest of the game vs Cleveland on December 8th, so he couldn't have even been that bad the night the injury happened.

I'm sure he was sore for a couple of weeks, but let's not give this drama queen anymore attention that he's already gotten.

He had a 11 day layoff between the Thursday night game on the 8th (CLE) and the Monday night game on the 19th (SF). Not only that, but he rested on the 24th against the Rams, so in essence he only played one game from December 8th all the way to January 1st.

OMG...somehow it went right past me...this is Big Ben we're talking about, the guy who agonizes over every minor injury to show what a warrior he is for playing through it. (While Brady smiles placidly, then after the season we hear he had surgery to replace the elbow and spleen he lost in game 3.) Mea culpa, you're right, Ben should be fine.

I believe it was a high ankle sprain?

I think that Tebow proved that he can throw a football against the Pats.. Saying otherwise just shows your unwillingness to admit it. The issue with Tebow is that he has issues if you take away his ability to run.. That just confuses him..

Well if your idea of proving you can throw the ball in this league is 11/22 for 193 yards and no TD's... He ran for almost a hundred and two TD's though...

no you're right, tebow is a really good passer.

You missed the point. Denver went with the QB that gave them the best chance of making the playoffs. They made the playoffs.

The Patriots won Super Bowl 36 with a much tougher QB playing with a high ankle sprain.

They did make the playoffs, that's undeniable. On the other hand, in Tebow's 11 games as a starter, the Broncos scored a total of 208 points; their opponents scored 250. With Orton as QB, the Broncos averaged 21 pts/game; with Tebow, 19 pts/game. So it's fair to question how much he actually improved their team.

Yes, you're right, it was technically a high ankle sprain (grade 1 of a possible 3); but every week he's been progressing and healing more and more (obviously).

I would be a lot more worried if I were a PIT fan if he had actually missed any real and meaningful games. The fact that he was able to play just fine against CLE the other day, and the injury has been almost a month ago tells me that some people are over-blowing the injury.

Becuase it's "Big Ben" everyone assumes that he's such a warrior somehow, but the reality is that he isn't as hobbled as many think, and that many QB's around the NFL are dinged up.

It's been a month whilst he's been playing on it. A Running Back would have had to sit out a full month...one game's rest is not going to heal him up...in fact I'm willing to bet it doubles his full recovery time. He isn't the same now and he won't be for at least a couple more weeks.

I think the "truth" (with drama queen Roethlisberger, that's hard to determine) probably lies somewhere in the middle, UK.

I don't think anyone is more right than wrong on this subject, but living here in Pittsburgh allows me to follow the situation pretty carefully.

In the beginning (from the Dec.8 CLE game to the Dec.19 SF game) the local media was really playing a lot into it, and talking night and day about it. As of the past couple weeks, the attention is really dying down, and he himself is even actually stating that he's feeling a lot better. (which is quite a stretch for Roethlisberger, as he tends to play every injury up to the fullest)

I'm sure there's some truth to what you're saying to, but taking into account the fact that he didn't :

1. Even have to miss the rest of the inital game on Dec.8th

2. Didn't even need a painkilling injection for the MNF game vs San Francisco on Dec.19th

3. Even have to miss last week's pretty-much meaningless game vs CLE (yes, they 'could have' moved up in seeding, but if he were that banged up he would've been forced to rest vs. CLE in the last game)

I would say that by the time we'd play him on Jan.14th or the weekend of Jan.21/22, that 5-6 full weeks of recovery should lessen his injury significantly.

You are correct in stating that he "had to continue playing on it," but if you've noticed, he really hasn't been running around too much and putting much stress on it. I don't believe that it has been getting worse. Brady had an outright fracture from the beginning of November thru the middle of January last year, and was able to lead them just fine.

If he were to somehow re-injure it next weekend in Denver, or if it had just happened recently, I would feel a lot better, but I do not believe personally, that Roethlisberger's injury should limit their offense too much. More importantly, it's their defense which has really been playing lights out anyway. Even though their offense hasn't been scoring much at all, they've continued to win every game but the SF one, down the stretch.

That's your point. He still can't throw a football, that is my point. 6 for 22 for 60 yards 1 INT 20.6 rating last week....like........am I in the twilight zone here??? Who are you people that defend Tim Tebow???

I've never been happy about an injury before. I've spent plenty of time in hospitals and understand the real suffering that happens when bones break, although the media downplays it. However, I'm thrilled that Mendenhall blew out his ACL and hope he never plays football again. He is truly the scum of the earth.

9/11. Never Forget.

Yeah his 9/11 comments showed what a complete moron he is, along with a handful of other idiots on that team.

I have to admit that I may dislike them just as badly as the NYJ...

As much as I love the Pats, I hate the Steelers far more. Shame too because they usually play good football. Just happen to have the most ******ed fan base in all of sports and unfortunately for me I grew up in western PA.

Mendenhall isn't as good as he's given credit for. He runs hard but he's a hot head. I don't think there is that much, if at all, of a drop off from him to Redman. Steelers also have Jonathan Dwyer who I think a lot of people in the NE area were big on coming out of the draft. That kid is an absolute bowling ball.

I agree that there's not nearly as much dropoff as some think, and that Redman is certainly able to get the job done. I'd honestly put Mendenhall on a 3rd tier of injuries for that team, with guys like Roethlisberger, Polamalu, and Antonio Brown as top-tier guys that would really hurt them if missed. 2nd tier guys would include Woodley, Timmons, Harrison, Ike Taylor and Mike Wallace. I would consider the loss of Mendenhall as a tier 3, somewhere comparable to losing a guy like Ryan Clark to be honest. He certainly contributes, but they really shouldn't miss a beat without him.

Dwyer is on IR though this yr, but your point is the same, they are currently using another big-powered back...Clay from Wisconsin.

I feel your pain. I've lived in the S.Hills area of Pittsburgh for 25 years now.

I don't care for the people too much, but my family and friends are here so it's hard to relocate at this particular moment.

I understand the comments, and the numbers are all there to see.

However, the only stats that matter is the number of wins, and whether or not you make the playoffs. Once you get in, every team is equal again.

Since Denver made the playoffs, one could just as equally argue that the team made the right call, and that Tebow under center was what worked best for the team. You cannot deny that his enthusiasm and support for his fellow teammates also had a hand in getting them to where they are.

I'm not at all saying he's a top-tier QB. no sir. He's a rookie under center, but it's too damned early to be judging him as this or that. Let's see how Denver does in the playoffs and then what next year brings.

respects,
