I saw a couple folks mentioned the quote by the announcers during game last night about Mangini taking notes with him from his Patriots days but nobody really talked about it in this vein. (apologies if I missed the thread - still playing catch up reading)

The announcer quote (paraphrased) said ' Pennington told him Mangini showed him a 'thick playbook of his tendancies that Mangini brought with him from the Patriots. By learning to improve on these tendancies he was able to greatly improve his game'

So could this be the real source of the enmity from BB??? Not just him leaving early from the Pats, not just going to the Jesters (see other poster-notes about BB giving him best wishes). Not that he did the cheap Branch proposals; .....

but most importantly that he stole Patriots defense materials. Not just stuff that was a product of his (mangini)'s own efforts' but stuff that was obviously from all the Patriots scouts and other asst coaches analyzing films etc etc.

That seems a bit more plausible. What do you guys think?

Sounds plausible to me.

It doesn't wash with me that BB is upset with Mangini for leaving against BB's advice... i.e. that the Jets were not a good organization, that Mangini wasn't ready, or that BB wanted Mangini for himself

It had to be more than that.

Peter King made the point differently. He said it was all about Mangini messing with Pats free-agents, namley Chatham and then Branch.

Yes. A few of us discussed it in this forum soon after he made that announcement.

How serious is this issue?

Since the Pats filed an official complaint against the Jets w.r.t the Branch tampering (that King mentioned still had 'legs') and nothing about this, I doubt whether this playbook transfer could be that serious or prohibited by the NFL to merit a complaint.

BTW - The commentator quoted Chad that the book (that Mangini had on Chad) was as thick as the yellow pages.

The REAL issue was messing with Branch who was UNDER CONTRACT. That was pretty unethical on Mangini's part. That went over the line.
