Interesting stat from ESPN this morning. He's got 1219 rec yards, the NFL record for a tight end is 1290, set by Kellen Winslow. So he needs 71 to get there today.

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

He may be primarily a blocking TE today due to offensive line woes...it'd be nice to pass Winslow...hope he gets the touches

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

Unless the Pats use a lot of play action today, it is doubtful he gets the record.

But if he breaks off along one, that would be helpful.

Protect Brady -> lots of running -> play action? One frog hopes, at least...

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

That's a 4 catch game working the seams for Gronk. I think Light's going to go, and if he does, I think Gronk'll (like that? "Gronk'll") get it.

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

Just an FYI, Jimmy Graham needs 77 yards to get there.

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

I thought Gronk was a lock for the record a few weeks ago, but he's been called on to do other things the past few games. The fact that he is this close to the record — and can also be called on to help his team other ways — speaks a lot about why he's the best TE in the NFL.

Graham 91rec 1,213YDS 13.3AVG 10TDS

Gronk 82rec 1,219YDS 14.9AVG 15TDS

whats the TE rec record?

Gronk got the record, with the Pats throwing with 1:29 left in a blowout instead of kneeling 3 times. I was surprised Winslow had the record previously, would've guessed it would be Gates or Gonzalez.

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

Gronk owns the single season TD and YDS record for TE.

*Thanks to that pass by Hoyer.

BB clapping on the sidelines suggests they went to Gronk specifically for the record?

Hell yes they did. :rocker:

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

Now its 100% for sure that Gronk is better than Jimmy.

Absolutely no question about it. The sole purpose of that throw was the record, the sideline went wild...and the clueless announcers didn't even notice. Terrible, terrible prep by the broadcast team to not realize that record was in play.

Anyway, applause to Mr. Gronkowski for the greatest season ever put up by any tight end in NFL history.

Congrats Gronk.

Re: Gronk Looking for a tight end record today

The other important thing to recognize in this great statistical receiving season is that Gronk is a focal point of the blocking game as well. A great blocking tight end just blew up the receiving records. That doesn't happen.

He is the most complete, best tight end in the NFL and he's 22.

I was starting to wonder if he had the record or not. They said NOTHING about it all game. Fail.

Yup. I said it somewhere: Gronk basically took off the last two games as a receiver to help this team with its blocking. Anyone who complains about that final pass should remember that.

Oh . . . IF Calvin Johnson doesn't get another TD (he already has 9 catches for 211 yards  ), then GRONK will also be the first TE ever to lead the league in receiving TDs.

It's truly extraordinary -- one of the most all-around dominant seasons from any NFL player. The TE equivalent of Lawrence Taylor in '86.
