Welker fined $10K for wearing "unauthorized hat"

...thus bringing more than $10K of publicity to his previously zero-awareness business venture, I'll wager.

If I were an NFL player with a side business, I'd start wearing promotional gear pronto in hopes that the league comes down hard on me, spurring the media to write articles about my censored business, complete with photos and web links.

Welker also stated on Twitter that he's worn this hat for the past 16 weeks and was never told it wasn't allowed until now.

Gotta love the NFL.

Will breaking his bonk affect his playing status? :p

Was he warned this could happen? Was he aware that this was forbidden? If he knew of the consequences and still wore the hat, he must have $$ coming out of his wazoo...

He said in a tweet: "“Thanks for warning me the other 16 weeks I wore the hat.” WW might as well write another check for $10k more while he's at it.

Patchick:

Heh - -great point. I know a team can't pay a player's fine, but can an outside company/sponsor?

If a player is going to get fined $10,000 for wearing an unauthorized hat,it might as well say in embroidery, 'Fu(k you Goodell' on the brim at least to get your money's worth

Note to Wes - just don't show up at a press conference making subtle hat jokes and get benched for the first half of a playoff game. We need ya!!

Cost vs reward. I would say Wes made a great deal with his 10K fine.

The fine is actually a charitable deduction, so, no.

That said, a sponsor can reimburse the fine, as a hockey team is doing for GRONK.

@ochocinco since I'm the first white receiver to get fined. Did I earn some RESPECT? Kind of like beating up the school bully?

Welker has been so funny on Twitter, he blows up my feed even more than Chad now.

This latest act completes Welkers Kharmic circle, head to toe

I love the guy. The consummate wiseass. My kinda guy.

Just googled bonk breakers. they have a website and are on Face bk. I say click away people and give Wes some love. Im sure he will appreciate the hits, likes and support from his fans. We get the NFL hat police special teams back our way too :D :rocker:

That is perfect. And everytime he makes an entertaining tweet on the subject, the value of that $10,000 goes up. He couldn't have asked Goodie Two Shoes for a better plug.

Smart play by Wes. Marketing 101. Bet the company pays him back

I just liked their page on Facebook and posted that Wes Welker's hat told me to check it out.

edit: scrolling down their wall I have found several others commenting on Welker specifically. Love it!

I think bonk breakers really missed the boat picking welker while gronk's on the team.

yup..it's me...conspiracy theory Joker...odd...17 weeks, Jetdell has to mete out this "fine"...but he waits until week 17, on the eve of the game that will determine the first seed in the AFC playoffs...and drops all this sh!tstorm of publicity and more ill will from the hater media right on top of the NEP...again....what a coinky dinky...in fact..it's ALWAYS a coincidence of timing isn't it?

Can't wait to see how far the fix is in to get pathetic Rats in the playoffs...already Miami is IR'ing key players and putting on their sea turtle shells. I smell a gigantic Jersey rat...AGAIN.
