Looks like Reggie Bush is out on Sunday. That is a huge blow to the Dolphins because I didn't see the Jets having a chance of stopping Bush because their defense is so slow and been killed by speedy backs all year.

There is now a decent shot of them backing in although they definitely could lose to the Dolphins who are probably a better team despite the records. Also, the Texans may tank the Titans game to get ready for the playoffs.

I guarantee you if the Jets do back into the playoffs, most Jets fans will act like the Jets are the team to beat even though they are 1-6 against teams with winning records and held their own destiny in their own hands two weeks ago only to blow it with two embarrassing losses to the NFC East.

Link.

Dagnabit. Well, as you say, 'Phins still could rise up. And um, go Titans. (Edit: oops, I mistakenly typed Texans here earlier. My bad.)

I'm pretty sure that the Jets need to win with losses by Cincy, Tennessee, AND Oakland or Denver to make the play-offs.. Not sure what the odds are, but the likelihood of 3 of them losing can't be that high. Especially, as mentioned, that Houston is probably going to "tank" by not playing a lot of starters..

IF the JETS get into the playoffs, and that's a BIG if, then I expect them to be an early out. It would be the icing on Rex's cake to see them get in, then get blown away in the first game and sent packing. Couldn't happen to a better crew. The meltdown on Joe Begnino's WFAN show would be biblical.

I'm still expecting to see Rex released as HC of the NYJ after this season is over. As clueless as the JETS FO is, they still can't deal with much more of the bad PR that his blustering and the JETS' non-performance has brought upon them. He has to go.

Nope.

That's why I said that their attempt to back in to the playoffs is easier. They still need a ton of help to get in, but them beating the Dolphins before Bush was declared out was the least likely outcome needed for the Jets to back into the playoffs.

Rex isn't getting fired. They still love him in NY. Schottenheimer and Sanchez are taking the heat in NY. If the Jets don't get in this year, Rex could be fired with no playoffs in the 2012 season though.

Don't know about that since the Phins had put Jake Long on the IR.. And I think Long being healthy has as much to do with Bush's success, but that is besides the point.

Thanks, I had corrected myself..

Re: OT: The Jets attempt for the ultimate back into the playoffs just got a lot easie

I've felt all along that the most likely outcome that would knock the Jets out would be them losing to Miami. IMO there's a very good chance Baltimore beats Cinci, SD beats Oakland, and KC beats Denver. No slam dunks mind you. Knowing that Houston has no reason to go all out — and effectively take a bye week — you can see them losing to Tenn and thereby Just Ending The (jets') Season.

But none of that matters if Tennessee wins. Tennessee win = Jets out of the play-offs..

I wonder if the Jets don't make the playoffs that maybe, just maybe Wrecks will quiet down...nah...can't see that happening.

Thank you guys for the clarification...I thought I was losing my mind, reading so many posters who actually were rooting for HOU on Sunday!

Apparently, we have some people who are obviously confusing the Titans and the Texans

I don't know why anyone would be rooting for the Houston Texans, when that is exactly what the NYJets need???

A Tennessee Titans win immediately eliminates the NYJets from the playoffs, and in my opinion is the most likley of all the events to happen...if as you all say, the Texans "are going to lay down (tank)" the game (which I'm not sure I believe).

The Texans are as desperate for a win as anyone, and I don't see them wanting to lay down and continue a losing streak heading into the playoffs personally. That said, I can certainly see the reasoning behind thinking they may lay down, it could go both ways.

But to bottom line it---we are all rooting for Tennessee if we don't want the NYJ in the playoffs.

The Titans hold the Jets jewels in their hands

Nothing I'd like to see than a Big Tits win!

Re: OT: The Jets attempt for the ultimate back into the playoffs just got a lot easie

Letting T.J. Yates sit out this weekend might not be the best idea for the Texans

Besides they would be giving Tennessee a chance to get into the playoffs and might be facing them a week later if Oakland loses

I think some teams remember what the Bengals did to let the Jets in A few years ago only to see them get beat again the following week.

Yates might be the worst starting QB to make the playoffs in a very long time

oops ... .I'm one of the folks who typed "Go Texans" when I meant "Go Titans."

I just did a quick review of NFL picks on major sites (slow day at work) and a lot of folks are saying the Texans will go all out to get into a playoff groove. OTOH, the ESPN Playoff machine shows that winning or losing doesn't change their position in any way; they're the #3 seed in all the scenarios I could think of. Gonna be a fun Sunday.

Is there actual reason or proof to believe that the Texans are going to sit Yates? Where did this talk of the Texans "lying down" start?

It would be very weird to me that they'd be so gung ho on bringing Andre Johnson back until his injury circumstances for Sunday's game, only to pair him with the QB that won't even really be throwing him the ball in the games that matter?

I was under the complete opposite impression that they were trying to establish a chemistry with Yates and A.Johnson, heading into the playoffs? I thought they were trying to get their team back together.

I agree with you that'd it would be dumb as hell to "tank the game" and go into the playoffs with absolutely no chemistry whatsoever and a long streak of losing and playing terribly.

Aplogies if it seemed like I was bagging on anyone specifically, as that was certainly not the intent.

I am the king of mistake making, and I am sorry if it seemed like I was calling anyone out personally.

I was just surprised that the wrong info seemed to be spreading like wildfire, no harm intended.

Gruden might need a DC in Stl. :singing:

Of course, They might need a container crane fron Port Newark to dredge him from the Swamp.
