Chances of BoB leaving?

The bolded part is complete nonsense.

Along with the last paragraph..

These have been record breaking years, and to use words like "poor creativity" and "cannot make adjustments" makes no sense.

Brady overrides a lot of Offensive Calls based on how the Defense Lines up..

Yeah, it's not that I disagree with your point, it's just that the McDaniels stuff is moronic. The Broncos are winning largely because of the revamped O-line (McDaniels), the young and improving wide receivers (McDaniels), the QB (McDaniels) the return of Dumervil (back from missing the whole season due to injury), the play of Dawkins (McDaniels, and Dawkins' absence has clearly been felt in recent games), Miller (draft pick this year).

What happened in Denver was the McDaniels followed a legend (Shanahan), got rid of two players who didn't want to be there, and were complaining before McDaniels was ever hired (Cutler, Marshall), and went with a combination of draft picks and older players to get them through a transition. When the older players struggled and the young players took time to develop, the people who'd been griping about him since, basically, the beginning, got their wish. Denver's now winning, in some pretty good part, thanks to McDaniels' moves.

Did he make some bad draft picks? Sure. Did he sign some shot veterans? Sure. But he wasn't being charged with maintaining excellence. He was being charged with revamping the team and making it a contender again. That takes time. He never got that time.

As for the Rams, well, trying to install that offense during the lockout, having the QB injured, losing most of an already lousy WR corps, and having an O-line decimated might, just possibly, have something to do with the offensive struggles there. It's not as if he has a Dante to coach the O-line, scads of depth, and a Brady-like QB to help out.

Oh Dear God, the key to entire Patriots organization might leave! How will Belichick and Brady ever survive the loss of such genius?

The past two seasons I was on here pounding the table about how BoB was not good enough at his job, lacked creativity, couldn't adjust, ect...it's different this year. He is masterfully adjusting, and doing some really creative things to counter the defensive gameplans. It's very clear to me that a lot of the cited BoB issues were past ones. He has overcome those issues and is now a complete OC, and a damn good one at that.

I think that a lot of people also are apt to suggest that having Brady makes his life a lot easier. While to an extent, that is true, each OC under BB has had his unique system. Weiss was ahead of his time with horizontal passing complimenting interior running. He would mix in reverses, play action, and screen teams to death. If anything, the Weiss offense was, at it's core, a screen and misdirection offense that used traditional offensive concepts as constraint plays. McDaniels was a spread offense, and the first true NFL adaptation of the college offense. The fascinating thing was the element added by a motivated, still capable Moss. They were running spread plays but utilizing Moss as the primary on routes traditionally run to keep safeties away from the real primary. A nice story in the evolution of the spread. It was a truly unique offense and one I don't think we'll see a carbon copy of anytime soon. If they had a Steven Jackson type back that offense could have beaten any defense. The BoB offense is another completely different one. It is a motion based TE offense that leverages the versatility of the position. The offense that BoB has crafted is capable of running I-formation concepts, spread concepts, and bunch concepts. That is extremely rare. Essentially what this offense seeks to do is determine the design of the defense (genius considering the universal gameplan for the patriots is "show them something they've never seen") and then maneuver to an advantageous personnel matchup. Once they have that, boom no huddle and it's six points and a giant momentum swing. Almost like a boxing strategy, really. Studying O'Brien has been the most enjoyable part of this season for me.

All that going down on O'Brien aside, I don't think that he'll go anywhere. I think that the league is a bit hesitant to go after young Patriots coaches given the prior record. It's also a bit of wishful thinking on my part. Watching the steady talent drain this team has seen in the coaching staff has been painful. McDaniels and Mangini aside, they've also lost guys like Daboll (though Daboll basically shot his way out of town when McDaniels got the QB coach job over him) and Rob Ryan. I hope they can hold onto the two talented young risers this time for more than a few years. It's scary to think about what those championship coaching staffs look like. The NFL and Belichick coaches right now looks like the late 90's and Walsh coaches.

I have not been a fan of BO'B since he was named the defacto OC in 2008. But truth be told, he did a helluva job with getting the most out of Cassel and that offense.

Up until this year, I have felt that Brady did not trust BO'B entirely. And part of it may be that BO'B was handling Brady with kids gloves or something, I don't know. But prior to this year, it seemed that Brady was calling a lot more audibles at the line than he is doing this year. And the adjustments that BO'B and the offense are making this year seem to be done much quicker than in the past. My biggest qualm about BO'B is that he seems to stop using the running game too quickly. I know that BJGE and Woodhead have been hurt, but the Pats brought in 2 new toys to play with as well and having a running game helps by the O-line and Brady time in the passing game.

Is BO'B ready to be a HC? Probably not. And I think it would suck if he left because of the continuity factor. However, if BO'B did leave, I'd be on the phone to Brian Daboll asking him how quickly he could be in Foxborough to take over, unless that bridge is burned for a reason we don't know...

A large part of McDaniels getting hired by Denver was how well Cassel played in 2008.

Are you referring to the Chad Jackson incident where Daboll said he wouldn't coach Jackson?

No, sir, I absolutely am not referring to that.

(furious googling ensues....)

Meh. OCs have come and gone. Our offense has been consistently dominant. We'll be fine either way.

I don't think he's leaving. Though, if he does, we should hire an old chain smoking guru who will leave by a hearse.

I don't understand it, not that he's not doing a better job but when will people learn about hiring from the BB coaching tree?

I think in the past B'OB had a tendency to abandon the run too early and easily and become too one dimensional. Add to that his occasional penchant to call a 5-wide shotgun play when we're running well and only a yard or two was needed for the first down (i.e.-telegraph the play), and also occasionally to adjust _away_ from what is working into what is not for no apparent reason.

That being said, his playcalling for most of this year has been very good. Especially when you consider the injuries all around and the deficiencies on defense he's had to compensate for.

I would be astounded if B'OB gets any calls for a HC job this offseason. McDaniels failed badly in Denver after he left BB, Brady & Co. And B'OB is nowhere near the OC McDaniels was when Josh was here. Remember, JM's last year here was the year that both Brady & Moss set league TD records, the offense set league scoring records and we went 18-1.

Yep, Daboll will be on the same plane back as Mangini (not that the association with Mangini is the reason, as those who read the book know).

If O'Brien leaves (I hope he doesn't) I wonder if Bill will bring Pat Hill in, an old friend and former assistant who was on the offensive side before becoming a college HC. We have a young group of offensive assistants other than Scar and Fears. I could see Ferentz being the next OC but it's a little early for him yet.

The rest of the nfl is just gonna keep banging their head against the wall hoping some of BB's ability rubs off on one of his proteges.

I will give Bob credit for working with an offense that doesnt have wrs!!With the exception of Welker whose a slot receiver.I keep harping this but one of these wrs is gonna have to step up and have a decent game in the playoffs for this offense to be effective. You cant depend on TEs and a slot receiver and get no production from the outside.Chad should be dropped like a bad habit after the season is over if he doesnt step it up in the playoffs.I have no faith that he will and Branch is wat he is.He is decent almost average to this point.

I really don't think Bob leaving would have any negative impact on the team. Somebody will be a ghost OC for a year (i.e. calls plays but not publicly named OC) who will be officially named OC the following year. In the mean time the offense will keep on rolling.

Whatever happens will happen. I think the Pats will win with or without BoB.

McDaniels last year here was actually the year after that, when he made Matt Cassel look so good some posters were calling for Brady to be traded. That was what sold McDaniels to the owners of the NFL as HC material.

I'm not ready to declare BOB as a good OC yet, last season his play calling looked really good in Nov. and Dec. then he imploded in the playoff game against the jests. From what ive seen if the team gets behind he just abandons the running game in favor of pass, pass, pass. The other teams knows this and pins their ears back and come after Brady. I want to see what happens in the playoffs this year, if the going gets tough will he fold or will he rise to the occasion. BTW BOB is the first OC that ive been critical of, i never had a problem with Wies or McDaniels play calling.
