OT: Wrecks losing respect amongst other coaches..

6b. Chump of the week: Jeff Triplette.

This, a thousand times, this. Triplette is a TERRIBLE, horrendous official. Just the fact that he keeps his job year after year tells me that the NFL doesn't care much at all about the quality of referees it puts on the field. Watching games with this guy as the ref is a painful experience. IMNSHO, the quality of the referees in the NFL is low - 2nd worst only to the NBA (though by a wide margin there :) ). It diminishes my enjoyment of the game when chump referees are calling a shoddy and inconsistent game.

Showing my lazy ignorance here but I thought that the NFL reviewed and graded its officials. If so, how can the bottom 10% still be officiating. I also thought that only the highest graded crews officiated post season. Is/was this true?

Given that the NFL is a 10 figure business, right up there with entertainment value (the player talent), game integrity has to figure prominently. That means of course that the gambling risk of fixing games has to be dealt with, but just after that comes non-NBA style officiating. I could think of nothing worse to the NFL's business growth model than having the fan base at large come to believe that game outcome was a capricious or worse function of officials. I'd be on this easily addressed threat big time were I an owner.

not to beat my breasts and toot my horn...BUT...I did make a post grouping Triplette with the Axis Of Evil in reffing...him,Carey and Huckaloogie

I cannot fathom how this guy still has a job. He must have compromising pictures of someone. For some fun reading, just google 'jeff triplette'. Especially entertaining is the time he didn't know the OT coin flip rules, and gave the ball to the wrong team. Incompetent, and he's still around. don't know why.

Triplette is in the league to appease the NASCAR demographic...

Was it the Lions Steelers game of 2000?

peyton manning is a frequent user of the fake spike, and "sold it" so well in a 2001 game against new orleans that triplette blew the whistle to stop the play, costing the colts a possible touchdown.[4]

lololololol.

he makes Jethro of the Beverly Hillbillies look like Stephen Hawking...

Yes, supposedly the officials are graded. But no one really knows what that grading system is or how it truly affects things. I

With the NHL, they made it widely known what their policy is, how it's enforced, and the fact that it's officials are reviewed regularly. The NFL, on the other hand, *Shrug*

EDIT: I've emailed both Mike Reiss and Mike Pereira asking about how officials are "graded". I'll let people know if I get an answer..

I bet Rex's gets a gig for the playoffs as an in studio analyst at one of the networks. ESPN given his mouth would be my guess but CBS or NFLN wouldn't shock me. If this happens just imagine the crap he'll spew and how this loss of respect will turn to hatred.

Way too hard on Wrecsky.

This is a business and Woody needed somebody to make the Jets relavent. He has a $1 billion stadium to finance.

It is, what it is. The jets need him.

I don't care what the Rats need...eff that bigmouthed embarrassment to fine Irishmen everywhere...

Rex's jokes have gone flat like old kool aid.

For all those who hate Rexy, admit it, you LOVE to hate him:D

Note, I could care less who is coaching that garbage franchise.. Wrecks is just the most recent tub of lard...

The only franchises I hate worse are the Yankees and Canadiens...

I thought he crossed a line hammering Coughlin who is fighting to keep his job. Someday when Wrecks is close to losing his job perhaps a coach will kick him when he is down, Karma is a b**ch.

I will be chucking in on the Jets between plays this weekend and rooting for the Fins (God will forgive me since I am rooting against the Jets).

The only way anyone can get away with what Ryan has been doing in terms of running his mouth can be found in the immortal words of Al Davis: "Just win, baby." Four playoff wins and two trips to the AFCCG in two years kept the wolves at bay; now they're at the door.
