From NFLHistory Twitter via Mike Reiss, a win Sunday makes Belichick the first coach to have FIVE 13-plus-win seasons. He and Seifert are the only ones with four.

Belichick's 13-plus-win seasons:
2003: 14-2
2004: 14-2
2007: 16-0
2010: 14-2

Patriots were also 12-4 under Belichick in 2006, and the Patriots have 10-plus wins in 10 of the last 11 seasons.

Yeah, I know, we don't want to go all-Colts here and get overly excited about regular season wins, especially after the last two play-off appearances. Still, this team's long-standing success under this coach (and QB!) is in itself something to savor and acknowledge.

It's been a wonderful time to be a Pats fan for sure.

Yep, too bad I only started watching football a couple years and missed everything, like... everything.

Thanks, Rico, for pointing that out, even if it does require counting one last chicken before it's hatched. :)

I agree that the Colts go overboard to tout regular season accomplishments (for all the obvious reasons), but I sometimes think that we Pats fans overcompensate in the opposite direction by downplaying the many other records this team has set beyond five trips to the AFCCG, four trips to the SB and three rings...not that the latter are chopped liver.

What this team has been able to accomplish in the past 10 years has been remarkable. While we all prefer to win Championships over anything else I would find being a fan hollow if the only definition of a good year includes a banner. I look forward to every game whether being there live or watching on TV and look forward to the journey as much as the destination. Based on how we are currently built it certainly seems like we have at least another 4 or 5 years of competing for the Championship. Great job by Kraft and Belichick for keeping this thing going.

Anyone keeping track of the Superbowl opportunities Bill Belichick has squandered?

2007 - 14 pts favorites and lose to Giants

2010 - 14&2 #1 seed = one and done

2011 - 13&3 #1 seed = no defense no championship.

Since 2004, the Patriots are a "smoke and mirrors" football team. Shinny on the outside and hollow in the middle.

I don't think a fan is hollow for thinking that way. I mean, when you do as well in the regular season as we do every season, getting knocked out of the playoffs is a huge blow. Its hard to look back at some seasons and think "That was great!" right away. Takes time to appreciate it.

Its very nice and consistent but gotta start winning some playoff games.I thought last year was one of the few times where BB was outcoached in the playoffs by the opposition.

I think that about 2,000 of your 2,666 posts have made this point already

It's not that I disagree...

You're right, he's not perfect, and I've also opined that he was out-coached by Porky Pig last year in the play-off loss. He's just better than anyone else doing it. He's not better every game, but big picture-wise, there's no one else I'd rather have.

Start?

You know who has more playoff wins than Belichick?

Tom Landry
Don Shula
Joe Gibbs
Chuck Noll

That's it.

The last two years have been dreadful. You can kill me for saying this but one thing he has been is a lousy GM!!!This defense has gotten worse under him.I just want him to win again where it counts the most. The playoffs.

Life is about compromises. It's tough to field a top tier defense when you're paying your HoF QB $18MM/yr.

Well if he gets this win than he is as perfect as the NFL allows though. Its a major accomplishment. I think what Mr. Belichick does is create an environment for players to prosper and be successful. He seems to understand what to tell, show, and teach players to perform on a consistent basis.
On the field is really up to the players to execute.
He's never going to be perfect , but out of all the coaches in the NFL, he does give you the best chance to win.

It is quite an accomplishment. This is why I don't get why so many people are so miserable every year about this team.

That said, this and any achievement by this team this year is a bit empty without a Lombardi Trophy.

I disagree. You can't win if you don't have a ticket to the dance. I am convinced that the only way to win multiple championships is to consistently be in the playoffs. the football takes funny bounces and injuries and chemistry are unpredictable. Those who put all there chips on one number often end up talking about that one season that should have been, while sucking for years after with salary cap and aging player issues.

We have unrealistic expectations. The corps of our championship teams is gone, but we are still competing instead of rebuilding. Remember, this all started with a nothing year where our franchise QB got knocked out early and we had a lot of street free agents.

Just look at Pittsburgh. They had one of the suckiest Super Bowl winning performances ever, but that trophy still shines, because they are consistent and made it in an off year for competition.

All praise to BB, no qualifications.

First off congratulations to Coach Belichick, the New England Patriots and all us fans. He is one half of the two most important personnel moves the Patriots ever made.
You said it well Pherein. Placing them in a position to win and giving them the best chance to win. What coach has done that better?
RayClay, you also said it well. Getting a ticket to the show each and every year is the best method to win multiple championships. In this age of salary cap, having a dominant team each and every year is just not possible. However, getting the team to the January mix is the most efficient way to pile up championships.

What the detractors fail to realize is Walsh, Knoll, Belichick, Parcells, Landry, Lombardi, Montana, Aikman, Brady, Manning, Marino etc etc etc. Look at that amazing list, now take into consideration that not winning the SB was the norm for everyone one that list. Obviously I wish two guys on that list were perfect but it isn't reality.
