Report: Jets reconsidering if Sanchez is team's answer at QB

Darn, darn darn! What rotten news!

I was hoping that the stupidity of Woody Johnson and the general dysfunction of the entire franchise would mean that it would take them at least another two or three years to figure this out. I mean, I thought they'd at least wait until the fans and media completely turned on him sometime next season.

Damn that sucks. Maybe the Jets missing the playoffs wasn't the best thing here if another playoff appearance would've got the Jets to eventually give him a phat contract extension.

I'd take their 1st and 2nd for Mallet.

He'll get at least through next year.

Sanchez sucks yes but they need to start looking at there loudmouth and ask him why is there defense ranked 22th in Points

I'm going to be the contrarian here and say that sanchez could probably be a fine NFL QB. That doesn't mean he's going to be, though.

The problem is, very few players are ready to step in and be the "franchise" that crappy teams that draft high are looking for. It used to be, they'd say it takes five years to develop a QB. Maybe they were right, in many cases.

Forget about the patriots, who keep picking up undrafted, or low drafted players and grooming them with almost no pressure for years (like Brady's ever giving thema chance to play when it counts, lol). If Hoyer is as good as he's looked in limited reps, that's a 6th, 7th and an UDFA who are as good or better as most 1st round picks. Look it up, if you don't believe me. Manning is the exception, and even Tom Terrific got to watch Bledsoe get kicked around most of a year and two games while he just sucked up the coaching and advice available (and i bet Drew was a good guy in that respect, though his ego probably told him no one would ever replace him).

Remember how people wondered if Aaron Rodgers would ever get a chance, and whether he was really any good? How did that work out? We're supposed to have the most QBs in the draft this year since McNabb's year, when there were five, including 1,2,3. Akili smith? Tim couch? Maybe the franchise savior model is wrong, not the available talent. No position gives the lie to the instant impact player than QB. It's a joke.

Once in a while, the son of a coach, or just an exceptionally poised and confident individual steps right in and never looks back, but the road is litteres with nervous wrecks who used to be gods on the college campus. Even Brady was still developing on a short leash in his second year when he threw a bunch of short safe darts where nobody but the receivers could catch them, leading a very conservative offense on the way to a title. He didn't start to develop his arm and stretch out and throw long until his third season.

I say the Jets should trade their whole draft for the next phenom, who will be the franchise and step right in and lead them to the promised land. then change running backs and cut receivers and replace them with new head cases every year and change coaches while you're at it. that's all you nee is one golden boy, not a stable coaching environment and patience. What fun is that?

Sanchez was brought in to a team that had a very solid running attack and defense. He faced a minimal amount of pressure as a rookie, a bit more as a second year player, and more this year as his team's offensive line has declined. He's not been a good player during any of his 3 seasons, despite what seems to be a pretty solid job overall by the new head coach.

Now, it's possible that Sanchez' development has been ******ed for one reason or another, and that he'll start to blossom moving forward. On the other hand, as a "franchise" pick who played under almost ideal circumstances early, he's still in the bottom tier of NFL QBs. That's not a good sign.

So why exactly would you make a completely mediocre QB and a selfish jackass WR team captains?

I swear to God Rex thinks if he says something it will just come true. If I make these guys captains they'll change into something they aren't. If I say we'll win the SB we will. Forget about earning anything.

And they've once again had next to no injuries. They fell apart without Mangold, and now have lost Jim Leonhard. That's pretty much it. Imagine them having to stick Vlad Ducasse at LT if Ferguson went down? Or being down to their 3rd or 4th string C, never mind their 2nd?

Or having their LB corps decimated, losing their best pass rusher, etc? This team folds at the first hint of adversity and it's because they have a delusional loud-mouth Coach and captains who have earned nothing and aren't leaders.

Oh and their over-rated punk ***** of a GM is now 'reconsidering' his hand-picked Franchise QB? He should be reconsidering himself and his coach. If the Jets had even an average amount of injuries and Revis didn't get away with holding on every single play, they would be bottom-feeding with the likes of Buffalo.

I used to not be able to stand Pete Carrol but he was right about Sanchez coming out to early and he was right about his over-rated safety (Mays?) who was all upset that Carroll doesn't pick and has been an absolute bust.

This could easily be in the Jets suck thread but I like to spread the Christmas cheer around a bit.

Well, Jim Plunkett came back after being rushed in and declining from his first year, but generally it doesn't get better if you just bounce around being the answer for your team or someone else's. There's a lot more to being an NFL QB than having a good arm and some innate ability shown in college.

i couldn't care less about Sanchez or any particular QB, my argument is more about the stupidity of throwing guys in as starters in the NFL and hoping they improve and become more adept and poised as they go along. In my opinion, they are more likely to get bad habits from being thrown into situations they aren't prepared for and trying to compensate with athletic ability. You're almost better off to be drafted low and not get your chance for 4-5 years.

Sanchez is an NFL-worthy QB, because there are 32 teams and hey, everybody can't be John Skelton, right? Maybe not a starter, maybe so... you can't just annoint a guy "the franchise" and expect it to be a good franchise, right?

Six of one, half dozen of the other. He may still be getting better, whoopee. We still don't know he's "done" developing, for what it's worth. And the alternative for the Jets is... well... I dunno, is Favre ready to come back from the Natural History museum exhibit?

We've seen this movie before... good ol Gang Green board, where guys were doing the tale of the tape and saying...

"QB - about even, give the edge to Brady for the rings" when their alternative was Pennington.

Whoever's playing QB on a NY team is "striking fear into defensive coordinators' hearts" the moment he throws two TDs and only one int. in a game. It's a media thing, and they believe their own hype.

So what if Sanchize does go the way of Pennington and Mangenius, with Wrecks perhaps to follow... what's their next league-stomping plan?

A mini-series called "the lost Super Bowls" to be shown on the channel that does ancient astronaut and Templar shows, creating a "what if" theory where the Jets actually did win super bowls but we all had our memories overwritten by aliens or something?

They're the Jets.

Come on.

Quarterbacks progress at different rates. Some are ready to take over from day one, some aren't. I'm generally a proponent of keeping QBs on the bench for at least a year, but it's pretty tough to argue with the success of a guy like Roethlisberger, for example.

Trading for Peyton Manning, in the minds of some idiots.

I'll say it again here, and for the record: I'll be VERY surprised if Rex Ryan is still HC of the NYJ come next year. I don't see how, with so many PSL's unsold, and such debts mounting, that the JETS can afford the bad PR he keeps bringing in.

Sanchez has a few warts that will never go away.

His accuracy throwing the out to his left does not exist. It's been three years of games and practices and he still has no skill at that part of his repertoire. The good QB's in this league can put the ball on the outside or inside shoulder, depending on coverage. Sanchez just guns it out there. That is why you see so many jumping catches on the deep routes and why Edwards was a better fit than Holmes to give the Jets their medium/deep threat. Too often this season has Holmes been open only to have the ball delivered BEHIND him, or too high exposing him to vicious hits.As everyone has seen, Holmes has bristled in the press making remarks that reflect his displeasure with Sanchez's skill set.

On the other hand, Sanchez throws the short outs and short crossing patterns pretty well, as he's especially effective throwing on the run outside the pocket...but...he takes a lot of risks with his body exposing himself to crunching hits when he does. He is reported to be 6' 2" but I think that's a bit exaggerated by about a 1/2 inch.Batted balls have always been a nagging problem, especially against hard D line rushes like the Ravens can dial up. The perfect contrast is Brees...Brees is masterful at the outside shoulder throws and hitting receivers in stride on crossing patterns, as well as the other throws in a normal QB's arsenal. That is skill you either have innately or will never have.Sanchez looks like that "will never have" guy, three years into his career.

Most good teams have a quarterback that takes charge, that is the FRONT for the team, the one who the press look to post game sessions, win or lose. The Jets have Wrecks, then Revis and Holmes and Plax and Lady T and THEN Sanchez in the pecking order. How many times have we all read or heard "well, Mark is young..he's only three years into his career...he has a steep learning curve...". No...he's been starting for three years...THAT is plenty of experience...age has nothing to do with it. In tight spots, if you revert to staring down your primary receiver every time, that will be exploited by the opponent. After three season, if you're STILL doing that, THAT is who you are...and that is who Mark Sanchez is. The Jets can win with him at QB, they cannot win RELYING on him to carry the team. Wrecks has to get Tannenbaum to infuse the defense with new blood and increase the Jets defensive team speed. If they continue to try to compete with Brady and the Patriots O by going out and signing the flavor of the month WRs and vet RB's and neglect their horrible speed at the safety position and LB, they're going to end up like the Redskins....of course this is just my opinion...but I've sen this movie before.

It's too early to get rid of him. Give him a few more years, like 10 or 12.

Li'l Marky is the second coming of J.P. Losman. On a good day, he channels Rex Grossman. Off the field, he is quite immature and not suited for the role of franchise quarterback, especially in the New York market.
