Steve Burton brings nothing to the table

I'd rather pay Asante than take a chance that one of the guys from that tier of players signed to a large contract as a FA (which would be required) can step into this scheme and perform as well. It's either that or take a chance on a rookie if you don't sign Asante. I know that I'd rather keep Asante if the dollars are in the ballpark, AND draft a talented player to bolster the position.

This is becoming more and more my opinion. At this point I would rather overpay some to keep a guy who has been performing and knows our system than pay a million or two less to a guy who has to learn the system and we wont know what we are going to get.

Good point. IMO, it comes down to how MUCH of a difference in dollars. If it's 1 mill. per year then fine. If 3-4, I dunno.

Whoa, easy Predator. Sorry about that, no huge disrespect meant.

It's just that I did point out the difference in one player who has every right to go FA after a contract and one who broke a contract.

It's all good. Enjoy the win.

And drop the Mod fetish. I'm a poster like everybody else here. No pedestals needed.

ty good luck next week.

The guy outright asks Asante if he wants to be a Patriot. What does he expect him to say? "Ughhh...... not really"

That was a Jim Gray moment.

On talk radio he adds nothing to the conversation.

I agree.

What's the deal anyway? Isn't contract talk a matter for AFTER the season?

How did all this come to life anyway?

Burton's an empty vest.

burton is just trying to get the scoop. i think it was inppropriate considering the inside access burton gets.

You don't think Samuel was aware Burton was going to ask him that?

I'm sure he was, but I also think it was classless rpeorting by Burton. How about asking a football, scheme related question instead of the easy free agency question. do some work burton.

Asante Samuel is 26 Years Old in his 4th year in the league. That gets overlooked by alot of people when they evaluate his ability and value. Go look at Ty Laws First 4 years in the League and he has a whoppin 2 more Int's then Samuel in the same amount of games. Asante had 10 Int's and 65 Tackles in this his fourth season. Ty Law had 9 int's and 70 Tackles in his fourth season with the Pats. Samuel has also shown that he can make those plays in the playoffs over the past 2 seasons. So I'm not sure why people aren't a supporter of this guy. His value is increased by the mere fact that he is young and showing that consistent improvement every year. Last year Samuel had 3 int's in the regular season and again to compare to the CB everyone thinks is the measuring stick, Law had 3 int's his 3rd year in the NFL. So we have a guy who is entering his prime and in my mind is already a top 5 to 7 CB in the league. There are alot of teams with big secondary issues and the draft is a crap shoot with corners also...There are alot of 1st round busts!! So I think we would be foolish not to make Samuel on of our top Priorities.

I agree. I also think Hobbs is where asante was 2 years into his career. i think both are equal in their careers despite the hobbs bashing and hobbs will improve in 2 more years to where asante is.

if they buy him for one year(franchise) i'd make that short time investment.

big money over several years...no way..... becuase you'd have to do the same thing with hobbs.
