Kind of OT/Very LOL: Colts don't quit!

Anyone else catch the Colts radio announcer (Bob Lamey?) after their, um, historic win Sunday? Heard it on the radio a few times yesterday and finally found it to share here. Hilarious:

"... What a tremendous day for the Indianapolis Colts, for Jim Irsay for Bill Polian for Chris Polian, for the entire coaching staff headed up by Jim Caldwell and for this incredible football team. I keep telling you they don't quit, they sure didn't today... The Colts are 1-13 and it's the best looking 1-13 I've seen in a looong, long time. "

Still worth hearing, just to get the guy's excitement. I also have to laugh at the irony of Felger/Mazz (Fezz?) laughing at it since they've been known to hold the Colts up as the franchise that does it right, as opposed to the Pats.

I mean why not ? The Colts accomplished their mission which they set out to do at the beginning of the season which was to throw enough football games in order to get to draft Mr. Luck. So now that they have done that, they actually were able to try now and see what happened when they actually tried to win a game. What do you know ?

Again I want Goodell to review all of their game tape for this season.

This is minutia, but I remember when Brady went down BB made a point to not have him on the sidelines at all for any games after. This was so that every bad Cassell pass didn't result in TV cameras watching Brady wince, but probably also to let Cassell know that it was his team.

I wonder if it was a coaching blunder to let Manning still haunt the field every game. It probably worked as a reminder to the rest of the team that they weren't for real this year.

Except that, right now that coveted #1 draft position isn't guaranteed to them. They would have to lose their last two games, and hope that the Vikings and Rams also lose their last 2 as well.

Indy could still blow their chances and then what? Wouldn't THAT be an interesting situation, eh?

Not to be too contrarian, but I would argue that the Pats might not be in that different a place if they had lost Brady this season. They certainly wouldn't lose every game, but anyone would be hard-pressed to make an argument that the current team would go 11-5 or anything close to that w/out Tom....

I love how everyone assumes that the Colts will be back on top once they draft Luck because they'll just plug him in instead of Manning and keep winning 12 games a year. The Colts are an awful team with very little talent at any position and a lot of draft blunders in recent years. The Colts have been getting progressively worse since the 05-06 teams that were loaded with offensive talent and good linemen, and as we've seen this year Peyton Manning was the only thing slowing down that decline. It's extremely doubtful that Luck will be even half as good as Manning, and if that's the case becoming perennial Super Bowl contenders with that roster is absolutely out of the question.

Luck is therefore walking into a pretty bad situation. Maybe not as bad as Carr to Houston or Tim Couch to Cleveland, but it's bad enough that I'm sure people would cut him some slack if he pulled a John Elway/Eli Manning. If Chris Polian keeps gaining power within Indy, which is more than likely because Bill Polian is handing off the torch and Irsay is idiotically loyal to the Polians, it can be expected that bad drafting and poor personnel moves will continue, especially since Chris Polian will have job security, and if Luck eventually busts because of these reasons, the Colts will be set back by ten years or so.

The real fun in Indy is yet to come. Winning the suck for Luck sweepstakes and how they managed to is going to prove to be something less than the panacea some perceive it to be because it's really exposed the status quo there for what it was. The formerly Stepford like fans in Indy are pretty upset with the whole lot of them. Half want Manning back, half want Luck, 75% want Polian gone and 110% are demanding Caldwell's head and want Jeff Fisher (or Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden) to want to come rescue them. Meanwhile, Manning wants his legacy back for the duration of his career and wants the benefit of that #1 pick, Luck would really rather not be caught in the middle, and Irsay is both loyal to a fault and desperate to please everyone so his ticket sales and twitter following don't plummet on the heels of hosting a SB in Indianapolis. His worst nightmare would be achieved if to top it off we're representing the AFC.

They are also facing a crossroads roster wise beyond the QB situation as Freeney's cap hit inches towards $15M, Clark's approaches $8M, and Mathis, Wayne, Saturday, Gonsalez and Tamme are slated for UFA. Watching the drama unfold in Indy post SB is going to make Favre watching seem like childsplay in comparison and will fill in nicely for the NFL media facing a lack of a lockout this offseason.

How so? Despite the defense being much maligned, it has still done a good job of generally holding teams to less points than they usually give up on defense. Even with an average offense that'd put them in a position to win more games than they lose.

Looks to me that if the Pats' offense could simply operate at an average level they'd have a pretty solid chance of being 10-4 right now. Obviously everything changes when you lose someone with the abilities that Brady brings to the table, but I'd be interested to see any real analysis to support the idea that the Pats would be a garbage team that had 0 chance of making the POs without Brady.

BB being a great coach and the Pats being a good team doesn't mean that Manning > Brady, no matter what the unwashed masses try to imply/say. All it means is that the Pats > Colts and BB > Caldwell. We don't need to degrade our team or coach in some sort of attempt to prove Brady > Manning.

How many of you remember the 1-15 season the pats had in 1990? The one game they won was against Indy and I remember being ecstatic about that win. Appreciate what we have right now with BB and Brady. Schadenfreude is extremely classless.
