How the hell is he still the commish... after like what? 4 years?

No one seems to like him, not the fans, not the players, and like not half the owners. What needs to be done to get rid of him? He's been killing the game, its really sad. He's super biased and inconsistent.

How has he not been fired by now yet? I really do not understand how he's been able to have kept his job for so long.

he doesn't strike me as the savy business tycoon, more like a puppet doing the bidding of a more intelligent group of money makers.

I'm no fan of Goodell, but he did play a role in resolving the labor situation over the summer. That's going to be a high point on his next performance review. Plus, I believe the owner's gave him a new contract within the last 6-12 months.

The only way I could see him going is if he made a series of rulings that were so illogical that the owner's would have to take action. For example, if he hammered one team for a rule violation, but then, a few years later, when another team is caught breaking the same rule, he gives them a pass because they were wearing a certain hat or shirt at the time. But that scenario is so farfetched, is could never happen.

I agree. Goodell will go into his next performance review with a new labor contract, a new TV contract and improved player safety regulations (including drug rules). His next contract extension will probably be for 5 years at a very high salary, and this will be well-justified.

It is not a matter of whether we at patsfans like him or not.

People direct the same complaints toward Andrew Demetriou, CEO of the Australian Football League. Under his rule, the game has flourished, broadcast deals have gone through the roof, the competition has expanded, TV ratings and match attendances are at record levels and a new CBA will be agreed upon. Still, for some people that isn't enough for the many adjectives people direct at Goodell alike.

I don't particularly like Goodell but you can't question the financial performance enjoyed by the NFL. He has to be a large part of that.

Like the M.D.'s Hippocratic Oath, the Commissioner's oath is "do no harm", to the Business of football. He can tinker all he wants with the product until ratings begin to diminish, then his ass is in a sling. We complain, but we keep watching - the players will actually be wearing skirts before ratings get affected adversely. As long as the dough rolls in, Goodell is safe...

Applauding Goodell just because the BEAST that's been built by better man than he, ere the previous 100 years or so, has rolled gloriously on, fueled by the momentum his bettors have built...is akin to applauding Clinton ~ or Gingrich ~ for the 90's Economy that Reagan, Volcker, and the rest of that crew built.

As much as I can't stand him either, with the way he has legislated hard hits out of the game, it's all about the ratings and money. The players have such a small area of the body to be able to tackle somebody legally now, along with other rule changes, it has allowed for offenses to flourish; which is what the casual fan wants, they want to see scoring. Me, personally, I can't stand it. There is no sense of accomplishment when a team scores, it's like ho-hum. Until people get sick of the product, he is here to stay. Hopefully, they get sick of it real quick.

What ever happened to the days when Sports were about a passion for competition and not just about the damned money? I could care less how much money the NFL is making, blah blah blah, and I know 99% of the fans feel the same way. These new rules to "protect" players is destroying the game and turning it into the AFL. You know it's getting bad when commentators and former players complain about the new rules and the game changing for the worse on the NFLs own damned progress. The only people in favor of the stupid rule changes are the owners/Goodell's pockets and some WRs. Everyone else on the planet is getting f*cking annoyed. Throwing a flag and handing out a fine when you THINK there may have been helmet-to-helmet, but didn't actually see it? Hard hit with the shoulders and a flag/fine.
