I wish the Boston sportswriters had a chance to listen to Peter King, on national TV between the wild-card games, dismissing the myth that BB was angry with Mangini for joining the Jets.

He mentioned that EM clarified to him earlier this week that BB had indeed called EM to wish him the best soon after EM accepted the offer. Peter King went on to point out that BB was indeed mad at EM for violating the unwritten rules of poaching players/personnel.

He gave specifics: (many of us fans know this but many of the Boston and national sportswriters ignore this) EM might have signed off Chatham whom the Pats were intending to sign and also could have played a role in interfering during the Branch negotiations. Interestingly, King concluded that the tampering charge that the Pats filed against the Jets "could have some legs". Let's see.

I think he meant EM.

Regarding the tampering, the Patriots wouldn't get anything but it would be sweet if The Jest had a draft pick stripped.

What the Jets also did is that Mangini had no intention of signing DB......all he wanted to do is drive
up the price,so he wouldn't sign back with the Pats.

Belichik took this personally,and I would have,too.

The local scribes love to picture BB as a paranoid taskmaster because he doesn't suck-up to them.

When,in reality,it's those overpaid buffoons(Borges,Shaughnessey,Felger,et al),who detest BB for not bowing down before them.

Mangini fired the shot to continue the "Border War",........Now,it's up to BB and the Patriots,to
finish it........On the Field of play, where it belongs.

Wouldn't it be sweet if we could get their 2nd rounder? Hey, they were supposedly willing to trade it for him. But if it has some legs what the heck are they waiting for?

How many Jets players and coaches did we sign while Parcells was there?

Sorry, typo. Meant EM.

How about Evil Genius??

He's yet to prove he's a genius. Now if the NYJ win the SB then maybe you can call him that.

But a more fitting EG would be Evil Gasbag.

We don't want anything but it would be good to expose how sneaky Mangini really is. He will of course claim that he was doing what is best for the Jets but it will reveal how casually he broke these unwritten rules/trust between the coaches.

I had a lot of respect for him and was among those who wished him well when he joined the Jets. But not after these stories surfaced. My admiration for BB increased when he refused to exchange pleasantries or engage in small talk with him as if nothing happened.

Go BB! Go PATS!!

Good question, don't know the answer but Mangini left amicably and BB wished him the best. Doubt whether BB's bizzare exit from the Jets was in good terms.

Interestingly, Peter King said that when the Cowboys were in need for a kicker earlier this season and could have gone after AV, Parcells did not until it was later in the process when other teams also pursued AV. King feels that that was because of these 'unwritten code of conduct' between coaches from the same 'tree'.

E. G. Marshall is an important actor to know about. Besides hosting radio mystery theater in the early 1980s, he once played the principal in an episode of The Brady Bunch.

AT LAST a clear explanation of the Belichick Mangini feud

This was really important, and clear in its explanation by Peter King

- Belichick and Parcells and their spawn supposedly dont poach from each other. This would make sense, as it makes it easier for each of them to retain their free agents if fewer teams are going after them. I would also assume this would include Romeo and Saban.

- I would interpret this to mean not going after free agents who a coach wants to resign eg Branch, viniteri, Chatham. but not people who a coach is discarding eg McGinest, etc. I cant think of any "violations" to this agreement.

- If this is true -- that these coaches have some type of agreement -- then BB was probably a bit ticked off when Mangini signed Chatham early as a free agent

- Imagine how PO'd BB was when his protege started f***ing around in the Branch situation. He must have gone ballistic, thinking "do you know what you are doing? do you think i wont come after you? maybe others will come after you too " like when the Redskins and Jets went at it. Mangini was declaring war.

- The other interesting fact is t hat the Jets have only one starter turning free agent after this year. So EM might have caluclated that he could stand a border war w the Pats for the first couple of years, since it would be hard for BB to hit him back..

If all of this is true, Mangini is a skunk. Belichick raises hiim, and the FIRST chance he gets, he goes after him. Hey they are in the same division, so Mangini might think he needs to compete agaiinst BB on EVERYTHING. But he just increased his avg cost of a free agent. I'd say it's over between those two.

Didn't he also star, with Robert Reed (Mike Brady), in a TV series called "The Defenders" (pre-Brady Bunch)? I also remember him as one of the jurors in the original "12 Angry Men". Or am I thinking about someone else entirely?

Yes, "The Defenders" was his vehicle, and had a run of a couple of years. A bit overly dramatic, the writing was, for the most part, mediocre. But Marshall himself played the role well.

Note to Felger, Borges and the rest of the Boston Ass Clown writers, this is what happened, you have sold enough papers and your talk show ratings have profited, time for the truth.
