Kick it down a notch
Todd Sauerbrun said he's prepared to change his punting style after last Sunday, when he had a high, booming 57-yard kick returned for a touchdown by the Titans' Pacman Jones. The punt was almost too good, which gave Jones plenty of room to build up steam before the coverage arrived.
"I'm going to taper it down, and not launch any 60-yarders," Sauerbrun said. "The idea is to just play steady ball and eliminate any return possibilities for them."
Sauerbrun received an earful from Belichick on the sideline after his punt to Jones. Later, Belichick took responsibility for not informing Sauerbrun of what the Patriots were looking for -- namely high, unreturnable punts.
Sauerbrun has worked to alter his style this week in practice.
"Bill is going to be happy with a 30-, 35-yarder with no return, and then we're going to go out and play defense," Sauerbrun said. "We're going to play it safe and let the offense and defense win the game."
