David Ortiz - "I don't know if I want to be part of this drama for next year"

Later Ortiz ... freaking gave up being a leader because he did not get his 2 year deal ... freaking chalupa see you later.

i totally agree. i don't care what he does. hes turned into a me first player. i still cant believe he interrupted a live post game press conference with tito to whine about not getting a rbi from the official scorer.

Ortiz is negotiating through the press...pure and simple. Do you think it was a coincidence that Ortiz's 2 national commercials in the last 2 years had NY themes. His ESPN commercial wearing a Yankees cap....his MLB commercial hugging a bunch of NYers. Ortiz has successfully killed two birds with one stone....strike fear with Boston management and soften up NYers. Ortiz knows what he is doing. Being a left handed power hitter is less rewarding statwise at Fenway than that shortened RF in the Bronx.
The question that needs to be analyzed is...Can the Yanks realistically offer Ortiz the DH spot with ARod breaking down. Posada is done, gone. Chavez contract is up.
The old Steinbrenner would sign Ortiz...but I'm not sure Cashman would. ARod is on the books for $29 mill in '12. He played only 99 games in '11.
I suspect the Sox assign a value for Ortiz, and if the Yanks go over that #, so be it. I'm assuming that the Sox contract offer would be better than any other AL team but the Yanks.
If he goes to NY, in comes DH Youk. Personally, I'd rather have a lefty DH at Fenway.

So on the one hand you admit this team is pathetic.

On the other, you tell Ortiz to "f*** off" for not wanting to be on a pathetic team.

That makes no sense.
it makes perfect sense.

it makes perfect sense.

Why?

Are we really going to hold Ortiz accountable for what happened in the clubhouse?

A) No one stepped up in that clubhouse. Not the manager. Not the captain. Not Pedroia.

B) An acquaintance of mine worked in the Sox clubhouse for many years, so I can speak to this one on authority - baseball clubhouses are notoriously cliquey, including down racial lines. The demise of this baseball team was due to a bunch of dumba**, redneck pitchers on this team acting like the white trash that they are. David Ortiz is not the guy who is going to step in and put an end to that. Beckett was the ringleader, we know this. And outside of Beckett, I imagine there was no one who was going to stop that group of redneck, beer-drinking, fried-chicken-eating morons from pissing away their season.

There was nothing Ortiz could do. And though it's the manager's job to police these things, Tito wasn't strong enough to take care of it.

What exactly did Ortiz do wrong now?

He's one of the few players on the team who lived up to / exceeded expectations last year.

A) agree 100%
B) that is absolutely insane

The Sox team has for years run in cliques.

As if pitchers wasn't enough of a clique as it is, redneck, beer-drinking pitchers is even more insular.

There's nothing insane about it. Again, I have some insight of what the Sox clubhouse was like roughly between 2000 & 2007, I know someone who was in there everyday in that time period - and interacted with the players both inside the clubhouse and outside of it. This is how it is there.

You can choose to believe it or not.

Carl Crawford allegedly gave a passionate speech to the team in the hopes of changing the culture, and it fell on deaf ears. Again, that pitching staff was going to act as Beckett did - he was the leader. Other than Tito, no one else was going to have any authority there.

Ortiz knows he done in Beantown, so he's talking this junk. This redneck pitching staff needs to be jettisoned along with him. BLOW UP THIS TEAM!

Ortiz is just trying to play to the average Boston fan's Yankees-insecurity, but fact is the Yankees need him like they need a hole in the head. The last thing they are going to want to do is add another late-30-something who can't play in the field to their roster.

I actually give him credit for overachieving these past 2 years after a couple abysmal Aprils. But I don't see anyone pining for the Red Sox to sign him to a 2 year big money deal.

i want the current scum bag owners to sell the team.

If Ortiz is not going to be part of the solution then sayonora. You've been a great player for the Red Sox, big papi, but where was your leadership this year? The Red Sox need to clean house of any malcontents and create a completely new order.

They are an embarrassment to the city of Boston right now. However be careful what you wish for. Are you going to get Mark Cuban+ or Frank McCourt-? One thing I can say for Hendry is he put a lot of money into this team in free agency and into the scouting department. It's just too bad him and Luchino are coming off as complete aholes in this. They probably are but I can think of a lot worse owners in sports.

Bingo. I have no problem with Henry. Could do without Lucchino, though.

if they are leaking stories to the media. i have a really hard time accepting that. and if they aren't they should leave no stone unturned finding out who is. because its become a pattern.
