ras i and morris as our outside corners, and chung and/or mccourty/edelman as our fs/nickel backs.... i like Claiborne, Stephen Gilmore, jenkins, Vaccarro. I think edelman/mccourty would make a nice weddle-dahl-leohnard type safeties.

Other ppl i think would suit us would be Devon Still, Robert Lester, Tj Mcdonald, Konz, Kendall Wright, dennard, manti teo, upshaw, hightower, kheeston randall, marcus forston, worthy, crick, vinny curry, Joe Adams, ryan broyles, maybe jeff fuller, Malcolm Floyd...

Do you think Claiborne makes it out of the top 5? Even if he does, do you think BB would ever trade up for him (like the Jets did for Revis in 2007)?

I used to be a huuge draftnik, lived for it haha. And I still get pretty immersed when the Scouting Combine comes and goes (espec with the added coverage on NFLN now) and then the Pro Days, etc... But come on, we're 9-3 and the playoffs are a month away, focus on the 2011 Patriots!!

Isn't Morris Claiborne the person who tortured that nice James Caan in the movie several years ago?

.....oh no, that was DELORES Claiborne.

.....and this thread is officially moved to the Draft Forum.

I know people are down on McCourty at the moment but last year as a rookie he went to the pro bowl. Thi year defenses would have had some tape on him and his weaknesses will be exposed. Next year he will have a full offseason and training camp to work on them and hopefully come back stronger.

It's a bit annoying he has regressed a little bit since last year but i can understand it and haven't jumped off the bandwagon just yet.

Its been tough for the DBs, we go from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and fans expect our DBs not to have issues. Its a work in progress. This years 4-3 might have hindered the teams ability to go back to the 3-4, and i am not totally sure we are going back to a 3-4 next year.

Not sure gone in top 5, as many teams need QBs and there are at least 5 QBs available. I'm thinking top 15 he'd be gone.

He is a complete CB. Very durable, smart and high character.

Patriots have 2 #1s, but you know BillB, he will trade out one of them.

I wish they package a #1 and #2 to move up to get this kid.

But, it wont happen, sadly..

he's no revis if thats what you're wondering. Id rather have Janoris Jenkins in the late 1st or second. If not for the character issues he'd be right there with Claiborne.

Personally I'd take a chance with Jenkins as well. But I see him off the board before we pick.

Umm.. Most of the talk coming out of the draft was that Ras-I would end up at Free Safety.

I don't believe that McCourty has the build to be a FS, in all honesty.

Also, if Claiborne declares, he'll be a top 10 pick, guaranteed.

jenkins size would hinder him to be a shut down corner altho he has incredible instincts and quickness aka braylon, brandon marshall types would kill his small frame on slants and post...i.e. mccourty...devin would be a great fs...he has a better build than jim leohnard, craig dahl, etc....he's built like eric weddle but more athletic and is smart...i guarantee u with devin and chung at s and ras i and a claiborne type opposite him we'd b a much better secondary. Ras I's strength is press man to man and and thats not mccourty's right now. mccourty could cover more ground in the fs position than dowling. I truly can c devin as an ed reed mold. I think Devin can and will be a great corner still but he has to improve his strength, jam, speed, and hips to get up there with the great shutdowns. Stephon Gilmore is the 2nd corner I would take whom I believe has a chance to be great as well

I'm not buying it. Jenkins excels in man to man and zone. Highly doubt his size is going to be that much of an issue. In 2010 Janoris Jenkins faced A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Alshon Jeffries and the three receives averaged only 38 yards, giving up 1 td and getting 1 int against Jones. How's that for taking on bigger receivers?

McCourty excelled at zone at Rutgers and really hasn't been asked to play man until this season where he has been slow to adapt.

Sorry, but you still haven't convinced me that McCourty would be a good FS. In fact, the things that you mention that Devin needs to improve are things that would also be a detriment to him at FS. BTW, you lose credibility when you say you can see McCourty in the same mold as Ed Reed when McCourty doesn't have half the tackling ability that Reed does..

If we did pick Claiborne, then I start McCourty and Claiborne on the outside and use Arrington as the star and banana boy Dowling is the 4th CB and FT special teamer.

However I think we can pick up a CB on day three of the draft. Instead we need safties on day 2 and day 3 of the draft. I am beginning to think that Chung will never make it through a 16 game season without spending a lot of time on the trainers table. So we need someone to help Ivebeenaho, who sadly has been our best safety on the field this year. (And he could not make the roster of 31 other clubs in the NFL.)

I like the outside the box thinking! McCourty's skills are still better suited for cornerback and what they really need is a hard hitting aggressive safety in the draft. McDonald and Barron are similar type of players and there aggressive style would really complement McCourty. There will also be a lot more safeties in the third, fourth and fifth rounds and the Pats could add safety depth as well.
Next year could be a real good rebound for McCourty and a healthy Dowling and a hard hitting safety would really help....This year has been a real tough to evaluate the defensive backs because of the injuries, players being cut and constantly hanging lineups.
