I really think Belichick must regret the Sanders move at this point. AFAIK, we had the cap space for him, and there's no doubt he would be starting for us right now and providing better play than what we have.

If you listen to Carolina fans, they think Butler is playing very well. He was logging a lot of time for them over the first half of the season, but then took a leave of absence from football because of his infant daughter's heart problems, but now that he's back on the field, he is playing a lot of snaps even if not starting as he was earlier on.

Butler is playing the same role he would of here as the 5th DB. BB probably just didn't see the potential to waste a 5th DB spot on him.

As far as Sanders, it was a cap saving move. Hindsight is 20/20, but BB liked what he saw in Brown and Barret and probably thought one or both would step up into the role at a much cheaper cost.

I don't know the angst over Sanders. He was a JAG when he was here. He was a year older, showed up out of shape and sat out injured for most of camp. Sure, there was a chance he could get in shape and salvage a season and contribute, but this is the NFL, you have to move on. You can't just sit waiting for a guy who has average skills at best to get in shape when he shows up not ready to compete.

Sanders was a good smart player, but he had a ceiling athleticly. I like the upside for Moore and have always liked Ihedigbo. Sanders is no loss for me. In short, I agree with you.

The guy got by on marginal talent and showed up for camp out of shape and quickly got injured. If you have ever been involved in competitive sports and competing for playing time, you would recognize the decision was a Sanders decision. To imply that a coach should gladly accept a player of Sanders skill level showing up out of shape and unable to contribute and let him stick around until he can decide to dedicate himself to the team because maybe you will have injuries and end up with a different jag with less name value out there, then you are kidding yourself.
And by the way, no there isn't much difference between those guys and Sanders. Sanders was cagey enough to make some plays but was numerous steps slower than either of those guys, and there were many times that he cost us big plays.
Crying for the jag we knew instead of the jag of the day is really a waste of time.

I know he hurt his hamstring, but I never read a report that he came into camp out of shape. A link/source would be helpful. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'll say most of the players came in out of "football shape", as most do on any normal season let alone after the lockout.

Correct me if I'm wrong... Wasn't Sanders was cut before the rosters had to be trimmed to 53 players? And there weren't many better players ahead of him on the depth chart at safety. He wasn't really given a chance to compete.

Sanders got beat more than Moore, Slater, or Brown? I guess we disagree here.

If BB decided he wanted to start fresh at safety or go in a different direction, I'm fine with that. But to sit here now and think safety depth with Sanders wouldn't help the team... I can't agree there.

Sanders befuddles.. in '10 he had 58 tackles, 9 passes defended and 3 Int's... there must be more to this picture than meets the eye.

Perhaps it is injury, perhaps he was out of shape... we will never know.

I never understood the whole save 2 million by cutting sanders and then siging 3 street FA when injury occured for 2.5 million.

crazy stuff.!. for years when our secondary struggled they will put him in there so settle things down. now with chung out they really do not have that guy.

when you play man with high safety its the safeties chance to make plays and if you see moore , slater are always late to the ball. he was also a good communicator .with these safety our CB are under pressure knowing help is never going to come.Its not crazy to think that chung game changing plays have gone down due to the additional stuff he is asked to do .

I did read what you wrote. Just because I don't agree with what you wrote doesn't mean I didn't read it.

I don't agree that Sanders would be worse than Moore, Slater, Brown, or Ihedigbo. I think you're speculating that he came into camp out of shape because I couldn't find a source citing that. Hence, I asked you for one.

You are always so purposefully antagonistic on this forum. I don't get it. I'm trying to have a discussion with you.
