So true, and so damned obvious. The Colts have killed the integrity of this great game and unfortunately even if Goodell analyzed their game tapes and reviewed the guys the Colts IR'd, it's too little too late. Their master Tank plan has worked and they're going to come out of this with Andrew Luck. What a shameful organization. I don't see the Panthers or the Dolphins tanking. Polian, you should hold your head in shame. What a joke !

There are no such certainties in the draft. The best QB playing this week was a sixth round pick.

Maybe they have given up now, but early in the year they were. If they have given up it is not because of some big plan to get the #1 pick like some say, it is because they don't think they can win games this year.

Though being down 31-3 they didn't stop playing on Sunday. So maybe its total BS.

I understand the support of the tanking theory, but my biggest problem is that I can't see players blowing up their stat-lines (and hurting future contract opportunities) just to help Polian get a #1 pick.

If we weren't talking about the Colts I'd love to see them trade down, get a bunch of lesser picks and fix every problem on the team (ala Jimmy Johnson with the Cowboys back in the day) just to show up people who write articles without any supporting evidence at all. In the aftermath of a game that went from 31-3 to 31-24 how can you claim the loser was losing on purpose?

That would be nice, but he's probably already taken too much injury risk playing his "Junior" year...but he could turn "Suck for Luck" into "Suck for Indy."

Wouldn't it be great if Luck (or more accurately his father) pulled a 'Eli Manning won't play for the Chargers' type hissy fit when Indy tries to draft him?

Disagree --- top NBA prospects probably have less variablity in their projected versus actual talent, but there are still top tier busts (Kwame Brown, Stromile Swift, Darko Milicic, Hasheem Thabeet, Adam Morrison... all say hi")

I'm not a big basketball watcher, but my impression is that the top basketball players who have all the measurables AND the production against top tier non-NBA talent have a bit less variability in their eventual NBA outcomes than similar NFL draftees, but the projection players are, if anything, even more of a crapshoot.

Not sure I agree about the Lottery. Bob George (can anyone say less with more words than this guy?) argues that it "stinks" because it has hurt the Celts from time to time. Now that's a compelling argument that took 1,400 words to make!

But, I've always thought the Lottery is one of the (very) few things that the NBA does well (other than serve as a gallery for the latest prison and gang tats). It does lower the incentive to tank a season get the top pick for the next Michael Jordan or Larry Bird.

Clearly, it would have to be adapted to the NFL where only 12 of 32 teams (35%) make the playoffs vs 16 of 30 (53%) in the NBA...kind of like recess at my kids' school where games are fixed so fewer children "lose." Even something as simple as putting the two or three worst teams in each Conference into a lottery for the first four--six picks would be better than watching the Colts tank an entire season to replace Manning.
