EDIT: Then again are they ruling it as a lateral? Still, with the 4 games left, it will be his.

Congratulations (still 4 games to go).

Is it too early to extend his contract?

Yeah, they ruled it a lateral.

Maybe they'll leave Brady on the field and have him throw another to Gronk.

It was a lateral in my first impression

He still has the record for TDs scored by a TE, just not for TD receptions.

Dumbest tweet of the day:

tomecurran: Irony. Every ball that Gronk has done the GronkSMASH! to has been a touchdown. But the one he saved...not a touchdown. #woah

SMH.

I was at the game today..got a huge ovation from the crowd..i was sitting 2row right behind pats bench..had a huge smile for about 5 min

yes, that was my first impression too (especially since I have Gronk on my fantasy team and I"m playing against Brady)

Yes, but plays like that are called passes pretty much every game in the NFL. I don't know why the refs were ticky tacky with that, but I guess it's a TD either way, so it doesn't matter much.

Not the refs, the statisticians.

I rather doubt Gates or Vernon Davis had rushing or return touchdowns in their seasons. We can reasonably assume that Gronkowski now already owns the record for the most TD's in a season by a TE in league history -- 12 games into his second season.

We can do more than that:

No NFL tight end ha[d] ever scored 14 touchdowns in a season by any measure, so Gronkowski's mark stands alone in some right. Regardless of whether or not Gronkowski breaks the record later this season, the big tight end said he wasn't chasing history.

[Note: source says "has," but obviously that's wrong now. ;) ]

Oh, and remarkably, it's the first rushing TD by a TE since 2006.
