With almost no snaps the past few weeks, what are people's thoughts on Ellis?

It's hard to be that disappointed, seeing as Anderson has been playing so well in his place (kind of), but I was hoping we'd get more impact from the guy. I do like having him for short yardage situations, as he's one of our bigger DE's.

My thoughts are that we don't really miss him so much. Anderson/Deaderick have been better.

My thought is that he kinda sucks.

He's making a lot of money.

Maybe he helped sweep the Jets.

My thoughts are that he is decent veteran depth that might be useful down the road. He didn't do much for the Jets last year either until that game against us in the playoffs when he played a great game. I would be very happy if we could get one or two similar performances out of him in the playoffs.

Hurt I think

He got hurt a month ago. Deaderick and Love are playing well. I'm glad he is on the bench providing depth and teaching the young guys.

Its all about the playoffs now, and Ellis has proven he is still very stout in the run game. Against a team that likes to run the ball like the Ravens, Ellis could play a big role. Also if BB thinks that the 3-4 is a better option in a particular week, Ellis again could play a bigger role.

The only real negative thing you can say about the addition of Sean Ellis is that he was a bit overpriced, but since the Pats aren't cap strapped the only thing it hurts is Bob Kraft's wallet.

Rest him till playoffs IMO...why use him now..we are getting good pressure..well not as much against philly

i think he's over paid dept notting more

Maybe he helped sweep the Jets.

I was wondering the same thing. Keeping him off the Jets roster must have factored into BB's thought process. That said, 4 million for a 34 year old DL on the downside of his career seemed like a lot.

That he is injured.
We have so many injuries that guys who aren't really able to go are active on game day. You can't read anything into healthy enough to be active but getting no snaps, because we don't have enough healthy players to leave all injureds inactive.

Does anyone see him getting more snaps inside on passing downs?

Was never really a fan of the signing. He didn't do much last year and even his playoff appearance against the Pats' was overrated (one of his sacks was clearly a coverage sack).

Quite frankly, unless we know that the Pats would have used his money on someone who could really help the team right now, I don't have much of an opinion on him. As I said, I wasn't thrilled about him and he really hasn't played worse than my expectations which were extremely low. I think the Jets miss him more than the Pats have gotten value out of him which is enough for me. With Mike Devito out for an indeterminant amount of time, the Jets could have used Ellis today.

Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs. Subpackage tackle, will get a few snaps as an end in the 34 should they elect to go that route. They're basically saving him knowing they can get three more games out of that knee before he goes on the scrap heap.

I wanted the guy at the time. But clearly now, he is washed up and is pretty useless. Especially with us using more 43.

To call him overpaid would be an understatement. He has about the same cap hit as Welker.

It's rather disappointing to think that he, Haynesworth & Ocho add up to nearly 10% of the team's cap space this year, and we have gotten nothing from any of them so far.
