In a potential Super Bowl matchup, tougher team to beat: Saints or Packers?

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

I always like to think of if you played a team at their best, what are your chances.
During PrimeTime GB has shown they can get the win, but its never very decisive. Plus I don't think they had the best opponents last year, good teams had injuries and others just misfired and lost. Im not really impressed with beating the Bears and Steelers to win the SB, they have 2 of the worst OL in the NFL. I mean if they had to face NO healthy, or the Patriots in the SB last year. I don't think they would have won both games. But .. anyway.. Steelers had 3 turn overs, and they barely won by 6pts, and they beat the eagles because of a missed easy field goal. They won their games and deserve it but Im not really impressed by what they faced and how they won.

NO plays really well in PrimeTime , more so than in usual games. It might take us a few quarters to get started. lol, I remember some saying "How did we lose the theses frauds" in the 2nd quarter of the Colts SB in forum, lol, but the offense eventually will put the gas pedal down and do what it is capable of. I think most don't realize though, the Saints haven't won SB's,but our boys our coming very close to being the best offensive unit, consistently as a team, in NFL history, so we have a lot of experience playing at a high level.

.. and we lost to the Rams, lol

Then their are players. Brees is just as good as Rogers , and just as mobile, but he does not have to be mobile, our OL is better and he has more targets than Rogers so rarely has to run.

I don't think Finley is a better TE than Graham, I think Gronk is. I think Jenkins and Colston might be even. Driver is better than Henderson, but he's not better than Moore or Meachum. Moore puts up close to Welker #'s and Meachum is probably better than Colston. Saints have so much depth on offense is really silly.

Starks is better than Ingram right now, but is not better than Thomas, Sproles, or even Ivory.

Both GB and NO had great defenses last year. They were #2nd and Saints were #7. Both defenses are struggling this year.

The way I see it. NE should want to play and beat the best team, then they have bragging rights and no one can say they didn't earn it. But if they want the team they have a better chance of beating, and don't care about having a good time with good fans, lol :) Then you want the Packers.

Rogers might show up and will play ok. You know Brees will show.
Patriots probably can't break the Saints OL, and that will leave Brees time, but you can break Green Bays OL :) , heck we did, without smith, lol.

Green Bay has no run game, and that makes you one dimensional , and unable to control the clock, like in their SB game. You really only have to get lucky or play well and stop the pass. Saints have a great run game, but worse is they have sproles. Who is going to cover sproles and our receivers ? Saints are better on offense than in 2009, I think.

I think Brady would torch both defenses right now. So, if you face either, it will probably be a shoot out, but Saints can control the clock with the run game, and you know payton will do that, and plan for a way to gain a possession. I wouldn't put it past Sean Payton to onside kick if we loses the beginning coin toss. He wouldn't want Brady on the field.

I don't think the Patriots defense can stop the Saints offense , when they are at their best. The running game, OL, WR's, smart QB, is just to much to cover even for a #1 defense. And we can't stop yours either, lol.
But even if GB plays their best game, and you do, I think your a better team. I think NE and NO are pretty even. We might have more weapons, but you have a better QB, and coach.hope I said that right, was try to articulate my thoughts on a lot of areas.

you can make the case that GB would have beat NE in a sb

GB played NE right to the edge with a backup qb , in NE last season

if you want to talk not impressive, it's losing to the seahawks in the opening round of the playoffs

or losing to the rams...a team GB beat by 3 tds just 2 weeks before they beat the saints

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

oh and brees isn't as mobile as rodgers

don't be ridiculous lol

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

maybe brees is not quite as mobile as Rodgers, but he CAN, and WILL move out of the pocket, and CONTINUE a play effectively

if they face BB, ill take the younger more inexperienced QB, and at this point its Aaron

ppl who say if he has a bad game the packers lose are correct, he amazingly has not really had one this season, but itll come, and packers fans better hope its not in the playoffs

brees though, the guy is a gamer, hes just a tiny notch below brady, and i still remember what he did to us last time we played.....we may as well not have even fielded a defense (and on some plays it looked like exactly that had happened)

but if GB plays NO in the NFC champ, and then the Pats in the SB, and win both, they will without a doubt deserve it....they wont though

the Pack will not reach the SB

I don't think so. Your talking about a different game, not a playoff or SB where Brady is very clutch.
Seahawks was already explained, we lost all RB's and TE on IR,colston got hurt, and geer broke his arm and still played. GB would have destroyed us if we made it that far. And Brees still pt up enough points to win. Defense couldn't deal with the injuries.

no excuse for the Rams game, we just sucked.

yeah he is, he's just not forced to run as much as rogers because of their bad OL. Lets see rogers out juke a safety.

just becauses Rogers OL is not good and he's forced to run game to game to game, doesn't mean everyone can't do it.

Ummm, what? Rodgers "might" show up and play ok? Rodgers has been by far the most consistent QB in the league this year. His "off game" against TB was one that most QBs would consider a very good day and he would have had 3 TDs vs the Lions if 2 of his passes right into the hands of his receivers in the end zone had been caught. Rodgers has been nothing but clutch.

NO is a great team and gaining a lot of momentum. A GB-NO playoff game is the one we are all hoping and waiting for, but come on, some of your comments about Rodgers and the Packers just not in the ballpark. Rodgers has not been tested in the 4th Quarter because he hasn't HAD to be tested. On the other hand, both Rodgers and the Packers have regularly faced teams that came out firing against the SB champions and they have shown that they have amazing poise. They don't panic, they make a few adjustments and before long they're 10 points ahead.

NE, NO and GB really are the teams with the best shot at the SB IMO. Ravens and 9ers? Great defenses but far too inconsistent or weak on offense. Steelers? maybe. Texans? Hard to pick them without Schaub.

I think all 3 QBs you mention would torch the opposing defenses right now. NO does have the better running game right now. Barring some major decline in one of the 3 teams' offensive production, which I don't see, I'm looking at which team' defense is going to step up by the end of week 17. That's the team I will give the advantage to.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

oh and i read on this board someone saying NO is better equipped to win a bad weather game in GB than GB is

it's a dome team lol

crack pipe talk

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

for me the bigger question is can they get passed the ravens and steelers to even make it to the SB, dont get me wrong i love the way they have been playing on both sides of the ball but they beat the jets who are not the same defense and suck on offense, a KC team that Denver beat with only 2 pass com and a 4-7 eagles team that did not have it's starting QB,

i think this team can go as far as Brady will take them but i wanna see how this Defense plays in there first post season game befor i talk about SB matchups

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

I don't see the Patriots getting to the SuperBowl this year.

Our team is way too soft. Even our offense is getting shut down in some games this year. I hope they prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

..does anyone feel as if the Saints would be a tougher team to beat than the Packers? Both teams have great offenses with very suspect defense, but against our D i just feel the Saints offense would be more explosive.

They are arguably more balanced than the Packers thanks to their running game, and with this years Super Bowl being in a dome I have no doubt they would blow the roof off our defense. I know our O is capable of doing it to them as well, but in a track meet I dont like our chances of keeping up as much as I do against the Pack.

Thoughts or am I just overreacting to one big game by New Orleans?

Just for the record, i do think the Pats can beat either team if our offense is clicking, I'm just talking about the matchup itself.

The bolded portion.....

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

The Packers seem to be a better candidate for a one game gameplan. They are more one dimensional than the Saints.

The Cowboys have the talent to be a POTENTIAL one game per opponent stud. That doesn't mean it would happen but they have X factor talent (see Giants 2007).

I would rather face the Saints defense eventhough Clay Matthews sucks.

Yet the Ravens lost to Jacksonville and Seattle.

The Stealers lose to the Ravens twice and barely beat the blowout Chiefs.

2+2 doesn't equal 5.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

Didn't the Packers already beat the Saints?

I'd rather take my chances with the Saints. The Packers are a better team.

Ian should contract you for guest posting.

If he doesn't pay ya, you should still come here more often.

It's rare but valuable to have another fan give consistent good quality contributions.
