In a potential Super Bowl matchup, does anyone feel as if the Saints would be a tougher team to beat than the Packers? Both teams have great offenses with very suspect defense, but against our D i just feel the Saints offense would be more explosive.

They are arguably more balanced than the Packers thanks to their running game, and with this years Super Bowl being in a dome I have no doubt they would blow the roof off our defense. I know our O is capable of doing it to them as well, but in a track meet I dont like our chances of keeping up as much as I do against the Pack.

Thoughts or am I just overreacting to one big game by New Orleans?

Just for the record, i do think the Pats can beat either team if our offense is clicking, I'm just talking about the matchup itself.

Our offense if the last of my worries if we get to SB and play Pack or Saints..the way our D is..the other team will get 30+

Brees is a Patriots killer. I'd rather roll the dice with Green Bay and ruin their perfect season. ;)

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

I personally think the Saints are the better team. If Rodgers has a bad game I don't see the rest of the team being able to pick up the slack. I don't think the Saints are THAT much better, but if Brees has a bad day I believe they are better equipped to compensate.

If neither QB has a bad day I think NO can play ball-control better and keep the ball away from Rodgers. I think GB's type of offense may be at a home field disadvantage, the Saints are better equipped to play a game in GB than GB might be.

I do think this will be the NFC championship game and I am predicting the Saints return to the SB over the Pack.

And you trust the Packers or Saints defense to do any better against our offense?

i think you'd be able to get to brees easier

he's not as mobile as rodgers

but either team would be a hell of a chore

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

I'd like to win a playoff game this year. I think we're a long way from even contemplating a SB match up.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

The playoffs and if possibly the superbowl can only be won if we have possession with a lead and it is 2mins on the clock.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

Niners or Cowboys when playing well would beat both. The Cowboys may be the best team in the NFC if Romo is playing well.

Am I missing the humor here?

Yeah, Green Bay and NO's defenses. Pretty funny if you ask me, neither can stop a nose bleed.

Edit: obviously the Packers are the best team in the NFL right now, what I should have said is the Cowboys can beat anybody when Romo is playing well and I wouldn't be surprised to see either them or the Niners in the Superbowl depending upon the QB play of both.

Last time Brees played the Pats he had as many touchdowns (5) as he did incompletions! I'd prefer Green Bay

Interesting. Even if Dallas's defense is playing well I still don't see them beating Green Bay or NO.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

I think I understand what the poster that is speaking well of Dallas intends to say. I seems like they have a solid roster BUT Romo (and to a smaller extent Coach Garret) is a weak link.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

Anyways right now I do not like our chances against Brees or Rodgers. The defense would need to pull off some miracles. In fact back up a step or two and ask if we can beat Pittsburgh or Baltimore. I suppose if Tom Brady gets red hot anything can happen.

That is something to consider, but i wouldn't make that the sole consideration. The two rosters have had probably 30% turnover since then - some good, some bad for both teams. On top of that you're basing your choice on one game, one where the Saints were clicking on all cylinders en route to a championship, while Brady was less than 100% coming off surgery.

The 2011 Saints, 2011 Packers, and 2011 Patriots are all significantly different than they were in 2009.

Re: In a potential Super Bowl matchup..

i believe our defense would be able to slow down either brees or aaron

the problem i see in a SB matchup with either though is not our defense, it will give up its share of points high 20's to mid 30's to either team, no matter what we do

so ill take the opposing defense that i feel cant contain the patriots offense, and i believe that is the saints....GB actually has a pass rush, but NO does not

actually the packers D may have just needed to get in sync

you saw that with some of your past pats defenses who needed like half a season to get on the same page

the saints only have 3 fewer sacks, but they do have 16 fewer ints than GB, and we know pressure creates ints at times, so you are probably correct

I do, Dallas has weapons on offense to put up points and the best passrusher in the game having his best season to date. We will see how they play in december but if they start heating up, I see them representing the NFC in the superbowl. The niners defense is for real and the only team that truly matches up well against them when they're playing well is Dallas because they actually have a good enough defense (like the Ravens) and Alex smith isn't a world beater.

Not seeing the connection. Defenses in theory should get better as the season goes on and the game tapes stack up but I don't think they'res been a drastic turn around from the Patriots defenses in any of the championship seasons. Granted the Packers don't need a drastic turn around with the way their offense is playing, look at the way NO won their superbowl.

I'd much rather play the packers then saints....I think we have a better chance stoppin Rodgers then we do Brees. They are loaded at every single offensive position depth everywhere. Same for the packers but has Rodgers played belichick before?
