Jack Del Rio has been fired as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to team sources.

The Jaguars, who are 3-8 heading into a Monday night game with the San Diego Chargers, plan to announce the move at noon Tuesday.

I don't think his getting fired will surprise anyone, but the timing might.

More time for him to chop wood, I guess...

I am shocked by the timing, I thought it should of been about 3 or 4 years ago.

Holy crap......I agree with you. I can't believe this jacka## has been the coach there as long as he has. Talk about someone who has done NOTHING (but whine and complain how others are cheating to defuse criticism off his own worthless a##) for a team.....Good Riddance Jack(a##) you loser!!!!

Now that NBC has flexed the Pats out of Sunday night and replaced it with the JAX/SD blockbuster, the Chargers could fire Norv this week and at least make it interesting.

I think more people would rather watch at least one good team esp. with Brady at QB then watch 2 terrible teams, with an underachieving (and maybe hurt) Phillup Rivers, and Jacksonville's QB play makes Sanchez look like a HOF....Pathetic Game!

How much you wanna bet Polian and Irsay begged out of that Sunday Night game.

Jack Del Rio should catch on as a DC somewhere...i think he would excell in that area. Some guys aren't cut out to coach just as that guy BB.;)

Owner must of been petrified that Del Rio was gonna break out the ax if it ever came to this. I'm sure he had a full detail of security armed to protect him in the meeting.

It's the only reason I can fathom why it has taken so long. One of the worst coaches I've seen in a long time. His inability to coach, scheme, game plan, develop players has basically killed that franchise.

If I see one thread thrown out there titled r similar to "What about hiring Del Rio" I'm going to throw my computer out the window and seriously reconsider our fan base.

If the situation were reversed and the Pats were having the 'season from Indianapolis', they would have to take a hose to Dungy on the NBC set to keep him from his all too obvious enjoyment.

Not shocked it has happened, just that it's in the season!

Much as I love to bash NBC Sports, JAX/SD is Monday night.

It's DET/NO in place of IND/NE.

I sat threw a whole season of Del Rio watching "Hard Knocks" on Hulu :bricks:

The Bobby Valentine of the NFL.

I wonder how Del Rio's hair is taking this news.

I'm guessinig Del Rio had some delicate tape on Wayne Weaver to stick as long as he has.

I've also wondered if AJ Smith is still a homer for the Pats so he hangs onto Turner. Belicheck would have won a Super Bowl with that roster by now.

What Del Rio had was a long term contract. Weaver is having a tough time selling seats, so much so, that they cover a few thousand of them over with tarps to lessen the seating capacity so they won't get blacked out. Being as they have to remove those tarps for the Georgia-Florida game, I say it has more to do with the team than the populace. Jacksonville is a pretty small city for a NFL team. It is a great place to go for a game as you can get a hotel room for less than $100 on game nights, and they have a water taxi that can take you to the game and then back to the hotel/landing to party.

Weaver didn't want to fire Del Rio and still have to pay him, but Del Rio was basically pulling a George Constanza (tell Mr. Tomassina that if he needs me, I'm in my Office!). I don't know if it was Weaver or Del Rio that pulled the plug on Garrard a few days before the season opened, but that too was clearly a cost savings measure. The Jags look like they may have struck out with Gabbard, and now they are screwed. They reached the year before for Alualu, and now they don't have much aside from Pocket Hercules.

The Jags should have drafted Tebow, he is from Jacksonville, and if nothing else, he would have filled the stadium. It was a big mistake.

The LA Jaguars just makes so much sense on so many levels.

This is the genius who brought a sharp Axe to the lockerroom. Then a genius punter, who later signed w. us, proceeded to accidentally gash his leg after he whiffed on a piece of log.

According to PFT, it was simply that unless they had cause to fire him, the buyout on his contract was just way too big; as it is, they're still paying him through the end of next season not to coach.
