OT: Why isn't Bill Polian being criticized?

The Colts were considered one of the class organizations during this decade and competed for Team of the decade. Bill was considered a draft guru and painted as an antithesis of Belichick. {Good vs Evil}.... Well apparently Belichick believed in team concept with a next man up mentality while Polian prefers the one man show while tanking for draft picks.

My boss lives in Indy and is a huge Colts fan. This year has been awesome for me to watch their downfall They're all hoping for Luck in the draft, but the truth is that even with a healthy Manning, this Indy team is still lucky to win 6-8 games. They're just terrible.

To be fair, he is calling for Polians head - he believes that unless Polian goes that Indy has no future. I think the Indy fans have seen the writing on the wall - that they had an average team with one of the best QB to ever play the game, and now that the well has run dry, that average team is crumbling to the bottom of the barrel. All the remaining playmakers are aging or nearing free-agency. Indy has nothing left. I'm loving it

Polian deserves any and all crap coming his way. Indy has no depth at any position at all, they're just a terrible team.

People live for hope, Colt fans resigned themselves to a losing season a month ago now they have their hopes set for the Andrew Luck era to begin and bring them championships into the 2020's.

When they are exposed next year with a less than Super-human Peyton on a team that has been decimated by poor management the casual fans will realize how bad Polian has been and the calls for his head will truly begin.

Memo to Polian: When you get your next team you may work harder want to actually build a TEAM to compete rather than CHANGING THE RULEBOOK to best support your Superstar QB.

The 2011 Colts will go down as one of the worst NFL teams of all time, and possibly the worst, next to the 76' Bucs, 90' Pats, and 08' Lions.

Caldwell should be fired immediately and Polian needs to be underfire.

He had all summer to decide what qb to go after once CBA signed. There was talk Manning may not be ready. Shameful to overlook the most important position on your team. Especially, when your team is 99.9% reliant on that position. I'll bet anyone they release Manning in March. The way contract is structured makes it impossible to trade him. Dan Snyder is already practicing writing a check to him with drool coming out of the corner of his mouth.

The national media panders to its largest audience. At the moment Indy is not only a small market, it's an irrelevant one whose own fans remain split as to what they want and who is to blame. Down the stretch as they actually approach an 0-16 season for real they will get more attention unless of course the Packers remain undefeated.

Fan bases either hate us for our success and the way the media paints it as the model or secretly admire us and Bellicheat (whom they'd swap for along with Brady in a heartbeat). Fans don't feel that way about Indy, except maybe for a handful of perpetually disgruntled patsfans who always think someone else is better and to be admired. Most always saw Indy as a finesse team built largely around Manning's mere existence. Outside of their division rivals, also small market poorly run teams over the last decade, nobody really hates or loves Indy except maybe us and Indy fans... Not to mention most mediots believe Polian has at worst stumbled and landed in a pile of unanticipated steaming **** only to walk away smelling like a rose courtesy of Andrew Luck... So the media won't turn it's attention to Polian until or unless that plan doesn't pan out to be an actual stroke of genius....

For the most part today's football mediots don't know what to think so they just end up pandering to whichever segment of the audience they think will net them the most attention. After the playoffs which Indy was out of weeks ago I bet the nationals will turn their attention to Indy and begin staking out their positions based on what happens with Manning...and whether there are coaching changes or less likely wholesale FO changes in Indy. Until then they are really off everyone's radar except their own locals who remain divided in their own blame game. Eventually we will be hearing about them ad nauseum...

I said it after I watched the Colts/Bengals game where the Colts purposely gave the game back to the Bengals with the intentional Garcon fumble where he literally help the ball up in the air before going down to purposely allow two Bengals to take the ball from him and score.

The Colts have been told to tank football games by the one and only Mr. Polian. And again, I mean this when I say it, the Colts and Polian and their tanking policies this season should be looked at by Goodell. This farce of a football team has hurt the integrity of this league and all of their game film should be looked at, I am serious.

They threw football games to the rights to Luck and I would love for Goodell to step in and take this pick away based on the things Polian has had his football team purposely do to get Andrew Luck, "by design".

You can't say the same thing about the Dolphins, when both winless teams were going neck and neck for Luck, Sporano has his team playing hard, they weren't rolling over like Indy. I have so much respect for that now, when they just as easily could have tanked just like the Colts. The Colts will try to win one of these remaining games, just to make things look good just as long as they know that that win wouldn't jeapardize their rights to Luck.

That team and Bill Polian make me sick !

If the Pats were in the same situation, you better believe you would be rooting for them every week to lose.

And, btw, when Curtis Painter is your QB, you don't have to do anything special to "throw" the game. He is perfectly capable of ensuring defeat all by himself.

What's really annoying to me is the "Peyton should get some MVP votes" stuff I've heard. I don't doubt the guy's greatness, but the "look at how much the Colts lose without him" talk is a bit excessive. It blindly overlooks the overall state of the franchise. They were 10-6 last year and on the decline even with Manning and I don't believe they would have been any better than .500 this year. There's a lot more going on than the absence of Manning.

I see, so in your eyes, if any football team loses their franchise player it's perfectly fine to tank games to get what is projected to be the next franchise player. So you don't have a problem with this or what the Colts are doing this year?

And if your foolish enough to believe that the Colts haven't been tanking games since day one when PM went down I don't know what to tell you. All I can say if Polian has you fooled. There is no way, no way that football team even without PM couldn't win one game, are you kidding me?

I think we all agree that the Colts, even with a healthy Manning, wasn't a playoff team this season. Polian SHOULD be pilloried for a myriad of reasons. This team has been gutted from the inside. Horrible recent drafts and FA moves have made the Colts a shadow of their former selves. In today's NFL a team can go from the depths to the title much more quickly than in the past. But I don't think the Colts are even 2 years away from being competitive. This rebuild is more likely to look like the fall of the Rams than a quick turnaround.

Here is my prediction of things to come.

1. Manning is NOT going to want to go back to that mess when he's healthy. Unlike NE, he'd be looking at a disaster of an OL to protect him in his dotage, and an awful D would put the pressure on him to score almost every drive. No. Look for Manning to be traded, The Skins and Dolphins are just 2 teams that come to mind that would become instant contenders with a healthy Manning at the controls.

However contrary to most observers, I don't think it will take the "boatload" of picks most think it will take to get him. He is old, injured, missed a season and comes with one of the biggest cap hit in the league. A first one year, then the next will be the maximum the Colts could get. More likely would be a first and third

2. There seems to be a plethora of good QBs coming out this year. If nothing changes, Luck, Barkley and Griffith will all be top 5 picks.

I think that the best way for the Colts to replenish their larder would be to trade BOTH the #1 pick AND Manning. By moving down a few picks, the Colt could still pick up a top notch QB prospect AND 3 more high picks.

The Colts have had double digit wins in 11 of the past 12 seasons. The teams he's built have clearly been pretty good overall. Unfortunately for the Colts, this year has been a perfect storm, with poor recent drafting combining with a lot of players on the IR, and then topped off with a pretty tough schedule. Curtis Painter's been a disaster, and Polian deserves a lot of heat for waiting too long before bringing in a veteran QB to serve as a backup but, in a spot of good fortune for Colts fans, this is all happening in the perfect year for it from a draft perspective.

I'm enjoying the schadenfreude while I can, because the "Suck for Luck" may end up putting the Colts in position to maintain the consistently high level of play we've seen from that team for over a decade, while the Patriots are probably still looking for their QBOTF.
