Re: TARP to IR

Guyton is BETTER than you think... he is just NOT starting material:rolleyes:

Eh. I'm not totally excited to see him against the Eagles. I fully expect him to fall down untouched rather than attempt to tackle Shady McCoy.

Re: TARP to IR

What a shocker. The dude made of glass in college is still made of glass in the NFL!

Yeah, what a waste of a draft pick!

I REMEMBER all the HATE NINKO use to receive and I didn't get it??? The HATE was enormous... don't DENY it

Guyton isn't a STARTER, That is the only thing I can support. I still think he is a good fill in for the regulars especially in some packages. The dude has speed. I like that :)

Re: TARP to IR

Gonna be tough to replace those 7 tackles.

No, he really isn't.

Guyton wouldn't be on an NFL roster, if it weren't for the fact that our LB corp is so depleted.

Yet, he still can't cover even the worst of TEs. Speed is great if the player could actually play the game of football. But since Guyton can't it is useless.

I have never seen a softer football player in my life than Gary Guyton.

Re: TARP to IR

Isn't there a big Tarp Fan who posts here? I hope this didn't ruin his holiday....

Re: TARP to IR

you cant cut a injured player or we want him for real?

Re: TARP to IR

the patriots arent going to ever cut a player they still value when they can simply IR them instead. whether tarpinians injury is truly season ending or not is irrelevant, the patriots needed his roster spot, IRing him allows them to keep him around for next year and continue working with the team, outright releasing a guy allows someone else to swoop in and take them away from you.

I hope his injury isnt serious, but it really could be serious or it might just not be a huge deal, the patriots might figure they have seen the peak of his growth at this point and it isnt enough, by IRing him for something silly like a headache, they keep him around and also allows them to add someone else to the 53, Free agent deep prospects like Ventrone, Tarpinian and BJGE (as couple of years ago) hold alot of flexibility because their contract isnt huge money and if you make semi-shady moves like this, you can keep them in your system even though they are not on your 53, the patriots have been masters of this for years, last year they probably had 15+ guys on IR and guys such as josh barrett they picked up off of waivers and immediately IRed him, that is really all you need to know.

Good explanation Serifyn. I hope the move has more to do with BB's shenanigans and not something serious with Tarp. The guy showed a glimpse of potential -- maybe one day he'll be one of those solid but unspectacular economic players BB would eventually make a permanent staple on the roster (like Ninkovich might be on his way to being).

Re: TARP to IR

I was with you until you used Josh Barrett as an example of a good decision. We would have been better off if he had not signed him and put him on IR.

Practice Squad Update, Tarpinian to IR
By: Derek Havens

The New England Patriots made yet another roster move involving safety Ross Ventrone Wednesday, re-signing him to the practice squad and releasing cornerback Josh Victorian from the unit....

All I'm saying is he is NO starter.

He is a fill in that is forced into the starting role b/c of injury.

I wish I could put Guyton on the Outside LB as an edge rusher on occasion. As a rusher he is much more valuable imo.

He has never been given a chance their.

I don't think Guyton is omg good... but can he be? absolutely. He has shown brief moments of excellence.

I want more out of him to, but it is what it is.

Re: TARP to IR

Tarp's got great potential. He was an outstanding college player. Despite being undrafted, he received undrafted offers from over 20 of the 32 NFL teams. I just hope his injury isn't life-threatening.

The timing wouldn't make any sense, they're running low on LBs, Spikes and Fletcher are both out again and Tarpinian got the start over Guyton. I think it's a legit injury possibly not football related.

Re: TARP to IR

Bigger blow for ST than LB depth
