Its a shame this kid was out battling injuries for so long. He looks really good running the ball as we all expected. WIth him, Ridley, Woodhead and BJGE, I think we have a dynamic set of RBs that all posses exclusive skillsets.

BJGE: More of our down the hill, straight-foward back.
Woodhead: Shifty and very elusive 3rd down back.
Ridley: Fast out the backfield mixed with quickness type runner.
Vereen: Only saw him play once but seems to resemble Ridley in some ways. Seems to make good cutbacks and gain good speed afterwards.

Hopefully we start to use Vereen more often.

He made an awful lot of chicken salad out of the chicken sh*t the line gave him yesterday.

I like this, lol. He definitely showed some good instincts finding a running lane. His 19 yard run was a thing of beauty.

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

His touches came at the end of a game in which the Chief's defense was running out of gas and had given up on sacking Brady. Not sure how well he'd have fared earlier. But it was nice to see him get some reps under live fire. Hopefully we find ourselves in situations down the stretch that allow for him to get more reps, but the first priority remains getting the W and insuring the franchise remains standing...

He does seem to have an explosive second gear...

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

Just another weapon in BB's arsenal....wait til they work him into the passing game and he learns to pick up blitzes !!

Nice addition of another youngster into the O...

What impressed me was that the chiefs knew we were running and he managed to get the yards

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

I wanna see him catching the football...in college he looked like he had a very good pair of hands.

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

I have to add this

benny is not a true downhill runner , his strength is the off tackle runs and let him pick the hole to hit.He is not a true in between the tackle runner. When you run him off tackle both the sides he is very very strong.

woodhead - i am worried about blitz pickup ,last week safety and his week he got thrown into brady`s leg. those 20lb he gives up to faulk is starting to show against bigger 3-4 ILB

Shane - want to see if he can block a blitzer .sadly he did not have camp to learn this . he is a bit bigger than woody and might be more effective. In 3rd down i want to see faulk/shane get more reps in passing downs.

True.

I have noticed Woodhead letting some defenders get through some. He's a hard worker though so hopefully he'll get better at this part of his job.

I'm not sure they were running out of gas, but one thing I know for sure is that they knew what was coming and they still couldn't stop it.

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

Vareen and Riddley are our running back future and the future looks bright :rocker:

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

I wonder if Ellis toe is still giving him problems. Hope they rest him if that's the case. Won't heal without rest.

Vareen looked good, not a lot of wiggle but seemed to have really strong legs, broke thhrough an arm tackle really easily.

I think Woodhead does a better job of getting 5-7 yards out of nothing than Ellis does, unfortunately. Maybe it's the toe.

He is fine against 4-3 ILB who are around 220-230 lb. against 3-4 ILB who are bigger he struggles. It is hard for a guy to stop a running guy who out weights him by 40-60 lbs.

That is why Crennel sent in an extra backer over the DE on whichever side of the shotgun Woodhead was lining up in. The DE would tie up the tackle, allowing the backer to blow up Woodhead. This pushed Brady out of the pocket and was causing a good part of the first half problems.

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

Vereen>Vareen
Ridley>Riddley

It's really weird that no one can spell this kid's name right. I worry he's going to be the next "Mike Vrable."

Re: Shane Vareen and our RBs

Vereen is small. Standing beside Woodhead, Woody was taller.

Ridley is more the same size as BJGE.

Vereen's a tank though; strong little dude.

Each have barely played, cut us some slack. ;)

That happened for Vereen's whole college career. QB and OL play has been inconsistent at best while he was at Cal (easily the two weakest positions on the team) so defenders would almost always stack the box against the run and he managed to still get plenty of yards running behind a weak OL. I see him as a slightly slower but stronger version of Jahvid Best, and he definitely has explosive capability. Looking forward to seeing him play more!
