What will it take to lock up Gronkowski?

well, I think he likes blondes, and you should be atheletic, have a nice rack, .........oh wait, your talking about locking him up football wise, my bad, nevermind...

The only flaw in GRONK's game is that he hasn't produced any GRONKlings yet. ;)

It will be a fair, solid payday for Gronk.....I am guessing in the top 5 since I also think he will take a home town discount to stay here.....maybe that's just hope, but it seems he has bought into the Patriot way....

What is it with this board and the obcession with getting ahead of itself...ADHD??

An extension for this kid is at least a year away if not farther. A lot can happen in that timespan. Comparing him to Branch is silly. Deion was not an athletic freak, nor was he a mismatch nightmare, his connection with Tommy was more of an intangible one, he had durability issues that extended into his time here, and he wanted to be paid like something he never was. I imagine if Gronk can maintain and even sharpen his focus (which seems to be Hernandez bugaboo) and continue down the path he seems to be firmly entrenched on he will get top tier TE money here one way or another. He looks to be the kind of talent who would have found success in many situations, but if as the broadcast team stated last night he is intent on becoming THE best TE in the game he probably has figured out that it helps to play with the best.

he will be a FA after the 2013 season...... after which he will be the highest paid TE in the NFL as long as he continues on this path......additional value to gronk for the fact that he will only be 24 when his current deal expires (I believe he has a 4 year deal as a 2nd round pick)....

if he continues on his current path, he will be the highest paid, and it might not even be that close

Nothing can lock up Gronk. He vactions on Revis Island cause even Revis is scared of him.

As for him getting Paid he will get paid no question about it

5 years 42.5 million, 25 guaranteed.

I feel like the longer we wait, the more it's going to take. It wouldn't surprise me if he was willing to take a little less if we locked him up sooner than later.

From the Globe:

Like I said he wasn't an athletic freak or a mismatch nightmare. He was agile, mentally and physically, which is an invaluable skillset in a timing based, sight adjusted offense with a cerebral QB like Brady at the helm. Not nearly as useful elsewhere. Ask Welker and Branch... Branch wanted to be paid like some of the most athletic WR's in the game at the time, guys who dominate and whose games translate almost anywhere, and that isn't who he is... Gronk is a "complete" freak at his position...and those guys are rare and aside from a few idiots like Martz who eschew the positon most franchise QB's and savvy OC's and competent HC's would find a way to capitalize on that. It's just easier to here because of Brady's skillset and Belichick's mindset.

Boy I hope they pay his ass. He certainly has earned it. One thing about Gronk though is that as great as he is playing, I don't think he'd be nearly as productive like that with every team in the NFL. He might with some teams, but I think this system really fits him well and he's got a HOF QB throwing to him that has a ton of confidence in him. NE might not pay him what he thinks he might be worth when it comes down to signing a new contract, but NE will easily be the best ideal place for him to remain productive and be a big time cornerstone piece to winning a SB. He might not have that same role on every other team.

I really hate this system talk. If the NE offensive system is sooo advanced with so many options that it takes decent intelligence to learn it, then why would a player who excels in it not be able to excel in more dumbed down offenses?

The only reason receiver blow when they leave NE in their primes is because they no longer have brady throwing to them. With that said. Gronk is a FREAK and he will dominate DBs and LBs on any team.

Well, that's the only way we do although that doesn't always pan out. Either way it isn't going to happen this year or likely next (unless it's an end of the season deal next year). He's 22 and isn't half way through his contract yet.

He's really young, as is Hernendez, so I could see them doing an incremental deal to afford him some baseline financial security based on his draft situation vs. production value. Maybe a 3 year extension that takes him to his really big deal in his prime. 3 years $20M guaranteed for injury with $10M up front in signing bonus...and some hefty but for him makeable incentives. That would be cap friendly because it would amortize over 5 years and fold in his remaining rookie salaries. Then you revisit him after 4 more years when he's still only 26...and the cap has imploded and your within spitting distance of a less expensive QB situation for a while.

Gronkowski is a pleasure to watch, but no one can take the kind of falls he's been taking and last very long in the NFL. He needs to avoid getting flipped and landing on his neck or his knee, or he's not going to make it to his second contract. If he doesn't, we may be looking at him a few years from now that same way I looked at Russ Francis after his motorcycle accident.

LOL...... 3 year deal because it serves the pats? Don't think so......why would he ever do that when he will be able to get 8m per with more than double guaranteed? On vcurrent pace, he will be the highest paid TE in the NFL.....

Gronk isn't going anywhere.

TFB would take a pay cut to keep the BEAST.

Cap will be going up hugely by the time GRONK is a FA... it is better to lock him up sooner so he can be a HUGE bargain in the future:)

you rather have his knee's taking out 100% of the time instead?

He's singed THROUGH 2013. It's 2011. If he continues to perform to play at this level, they will most likely franchise him, if they can't resign him.

Why in the world are people concerned about this now?

If Brady wants WWW and GRONK for the rest of his career he will have to restructure his contract and or take a big pay cut if he agrees to a new deal.

TFB has more $$$ than God. He is a WINNER take the cut

It is in TFB's hands... if he agrees to a smaller deal we can do great stuff with the $$$ we save. The Cap will grow... but with it players will demand more $$$ b/c they know it is growing larger. It is a Catch 22:eek:

Yeah this question has to many variables and unknowns to be answered now..

7 years

$200 million

an unlimited supply of beautiful virgins and a glorious mountain cave.

Rob Gronkowski has to go as one the better BB drafts picks in his tenure.

Tom Brady

Richard Seymore

Rob Gronkowski

Vince Wilfork

Jarod Mayo

I think in that order.
