And will the Patriots pay?

They probably give him the same money than Asante,Deion Branch...

Gronk is BB's wet dream. He will get paid.

Not so sure about AH though.

How many TE's did BB draft looking for Gronk? Of course he gonna pay.

A couple of pornstars and change should keep him happy ;)

A huge expansion of the cap when the new TV contract comes.

BB's wet dream? He should be every Patriots fan's wet dream.

No, he should be every football fan's wet dream. but seriously, BB is known for his fond for TE's, and he was consistently drafting TE's and failed until he drafted Gronkowski and Hernandez.

If BB stays true to his model then he is only worth whatever amount he has given that position.

He is a tight end, but more of target. I think the organization should take that into consideration.

His back comes into question so you are kinda rolling the dice on that one.

Branch was a SB MVP and Bradys go to guy and they let him walk.

Don't want to imagine life without 87. In my opinion his value is much higher than a tight end.

I mean Winslow, Gonzalez, Davis, Clark, Shiancoe and even Whitten. 87 is the best in the league now.

What will it take? I would think a very favorable offer, as it should....

And will the Patriots pay?

Given that the franchise tag number for a TE last year was $5.9 million, and given the assumption that Gronk is at worst the #2 TE in the league, I figure 5 years, $35 million with $12 million guaranteed and $22 million in the first three years will be the arrangement.

And will the Pats pay that?

Yep, in a hearbeat

well, I think he likes blondes, and you should be atheletic, have a nice rack, .........oh wait, your talking about locking him up football wise, my bad, nevermind...

Devil's Island....maybe?

And will the Patriots pay?

Whatever it takes. Gronk is the most explosive TE in the NFL since I don't know when. The pats HAVE to pay the guy. Hopefully they have learned their lesson in letting top talent @ vital/seriously important positions go because of unwillingness to pay them. That would include any GREAT SECONDARY players we ever get again. Pay the gronk!

both Gates and Davis got contracts in the last few years of roughly $40m over 6 years with $20-23m guaranteed. This would seem like the starting point for what is now the best in the league.

However, unlike say the Eagles, we have a history of waiting until the last year of the contract to do this sort of thing so don't expect anything done now. Welker and Mayo arew both ahead of him unless he agrees a friendly deal

Being found guilty of a serious crime?

I thought I heard the other day, only 1 TE has had back to back 10 TD seasons (Gates?) or was that only one other TE has had 2 10 TS seasons and Gronk did this in his first 2 season.

Pay the beast.

Depends. I'm sure BB would love to keep the kid as a Patriot for life. But if his agent demands ridiculous money, then we know how that'll turn out. I'm sure BB wanted to keep a lot of guys that have left Patriots but just couldn't get it done financially.

What is it with this board and the obcession with getting ahead of itself...ADHD??

An extension for this kid is at least a year away if not farther. A lot can happen in that timespan. Comparing him to Branch is silly. Deion was not an athletic freak, nor was he a mismatch nightmare, his connection with Tommy was more of an intangible one, he had durability issues that extended into his time here, and he wanted to be paid like something he never was. I imagine if Gronk can maintain and even sharpen his focus (which seems to be Hernandez bugaboo) and continue down the path he seems to be firmly entrenched on he will get top tier TE money here one way or another. He looks to be the kind of talent who would have found success in many situations, but if as the broadcast team stated last night he is intent on becoming THE best TE in the game he probably has figured out that it helps to play with the best.

When I saw how excited he was after getting drafted by the Pats, and seeing some of his college highlights,I was certain this guy could be special.Wow! He brings it all, great hands ,a CB nightmare with his size, strength and oh yeah,he can block ..He is fun to watch.Even his name reminds you of a throwback football player...they gotta keep this guy!

A maximum security prison other than that no ones locking up Gronk.

Boy I hope they pay his ass. He certainly has earned it. One thing about Gronk though is that as great as he is playing, I don't think he'd be nearly as productive like that with every team in the NFL. He might with some teams, but I think this system really fits him well and he's got a HOF QB throwing to him that has a ton of confidence in him. NE might not pay him what he thinks he might be worth when it comes down to signing a new contract, but NE will easily be the best ideal place for him to remain productive and be a big time cornerstone piece to winning a SB. He might not have that same role on every other team.
