Reality check - the Jets are far from done
By: John Morgan

Many believe that the Jets playoff chances were finished after their loss to the Pats last week - but is that truly an accurate assessment?...

They're not completely out of it, but food for thought: according to playoffstatus.com, if the JEST go 10-6 (5-1 the rest of the way), they only have a 50-50 chance of making the playoffs. If the Pats go 4-3 the rest of the way, ending up 10-6, they have an 87% chance of making the playoffs.

Lets be real here, the Jets aren't making the playoffs. The Giants will beat them and they are bound to slip up along the rest of the way. They aren't a good team.

Watching highlights from the Thursday night game some of them almost look like they dont care.

I'm still giddy from seeing them lose two games in less than a week in which they were favored.

Yeah, that is one of their biggest problems this year. They have no identity or swagger.

I have counted the Jets out because they have yet to show they can beat anyone good and playing well. They have beaten the bad teams and teams in a mist of slump.

And, of course, the games that they win because the other team inexplicably stats playing like cr*p.

That said, do you think Lady Tom would have made a difference against the Denver Tebows? :D

They just lost to Denver- after watching that game, I dunno how anyone could be thinking that they have a shot at running the table.

I can understand that the Jets have a much easier remaining schedule than the Ravens, Bengals and Titans do, and also that one AFCN team like the Bengals could get knocked out of the race by playing all those division games.

However, the Jets seem to be built so much on emotion - confidence and swagger - that I don't think they have the intestinal fortitude to persevere and bounce back. Obviously, as pointed out things can change dramatically in just a week or two, but right now I see as no better than the 4th most likely team to be a wild card, behind Baltimore, Cincy, and Tennessee.

Far from done?

If 2 losses out of the next 6 games is "far" then yeah- you're right.

Don't think they're done : but a loss to the NYG would be a crushing blow.

The Bengals (who are far from a sure thing and have a much tougher schedule than NYJ) at 6-4 hold the last WC spot and there's a gang of 5-5 teams. Like I said, plenty football to be played

Still think the Jets will go 9-7 at best with losing their last two games. Right now, both the Giants and Dolphins are better than them despite the Dolphins' record. In fact, if the Dolphins had pulled it together earlier, they might have been a legitimate threat for the division. The Giants will still probably be playing for the NFC East when they face the Jets.

Now the Jets have been so inconsistent that they could still lose one or more of the four other games. I don't think the Jets have shown they can beat anyone this year. They have beaten on team with a winning record and that was the Cowboys who gave the game away.

I guess after today, 9-7 could get in. But at that point, the Jets would lose a lot of tie breakers.

It's still early enough for the "anything can happen" to happen, but it seems as if the AFCE is locked up for the Patriots and the AFCN will have both Pittsburgh and Baltimore getting into the playoffs. That leaves a pretty muddled group vying for 2 division titles and one wild card spot.

Raiders (6-4): Bears/Dolphins/Packers/Lions/Chiefs/Chargers
Bengals (6-4): Browns/Steelers/Texans/Rams/Cardinals/Ravens
Jets (5-5): Bills/Redskins/Chiefs/Eagles/Giants/Dolphins
Titans: (5-5): Bucs/Bills/Saints/Colts/Jaguars/Texans
Broncos (5-5): Chargers/Vikings/Bears/Patriots/Bills/Chiefs
Bills (5-5): Jets/Titans/Chargers/Dolphins/Broncos/Patriots
Chiefs (4-5): Patriots/Steelers/Bears/Jets/Packers/Raiders/Broncos
Chargers (4-6): Broncos/Jaguars/Bills/Ravens/Lions/Raiders

I agree that the Jets aren't done, because that's a large group of mediocrity, with a host of teams that could easily start losing games in a bunch.

They may sneak into the playoffs..but they are done IMO

Horrible QB and a D that couldn't stop a nosebleed at the end of games...yeah not making it

I was hoping the chargers would win due to hurting the jets chances..but nope

It's just frustrating with how horrible they've been and still just 1 game out of being tied for the last spot. I'd feel alot better if they'd have lost one of the Cowboys/chargers games that they should have lost. The biggest BS would be them sliding to that 6 seed and facing the Shaub-less Texans or AFCW winner.

Yes at least that Miami game looks alot tougher now. NYG is the only team left on their schedule with a winning record and who knows which NYG shows up that week. And I don't trust any of the AFC teams beyond the top 5 to finish better than 9-7, hopefully Cincy

At this point, the Chargers is a should have won game for anyone. The Chargers have the third longest losing streak after Indy (of course) and the Redskins. They have lost five in a row.

Denver's schedule just got a lot easier with Cutler out of their game. They have a relatively easy schedule left with the Pats being the only other team on their schedule with a winning record. The question is whether the Tebow magic can last. They have the potential of going 5-1 the rest of the way.

I still think Cincy can win out or only have one more loss. Yes, they still have the Steelers, Texans, and Ravens on their schedule, but they played both Baltimore and Pittsburgh close and could win the second time around. Even so, they would have to lose three of their last six to be 9-7.

The Titans only have the Saints and Texans left on their schedule with winning records. They could go 10-6 assuming Hasselbeck is healthy.

It is a strange year and anything cpould happen, but the Jets other than a three game run against mediocre competition hasn't shown much this year. even then, there was only one game where they played good for most of the game.

The New York media eat their young.
I believe Ryan & his fine upstanding toe tappers are one bad breath fart away from totally imploding on themselves.

Lots of teams are competing for that last playoff spot. The jets have the easiest schedule. 10-6 seems likely to win a wild card this year.

Team / Probability of making playoffs at 10-6 per playoffstatus.com BEFORE today's game

Texans 95%
Jaguars 77%
Titans 66%
Colts hahahahaha :D

Browns 94%(!)
Bengals 83%
Ratbirds 82%
Squeelers 78%

Tebows 96%
Chargers 96%
Chiefs 95%
Raiders 90%

Patriots 87%
JEST 51%
Bills 77%
LOLphins 0%

In other words: yeah, there's a good chance a 10-6 team will make the playoffs, but, as of this morning, the JEST had the worst chance of being that team. :D
