:bricks: d%#*!@t. I knew he was going to be nasty. I would have loved to have him in our offense as our young deep threat. Maybe someday the patriots front office can fulfill my dream of drafting a young stud franchise Wide Receiver.

I love our team, I love the way the season is going, I think we are going to go very far. This was a draft blunder though!

Torrey Smith has hands of stone. With how many long bombs he dropped that would have easily been TD's he could potentially be having a better rookie season than Moss.

Greetings,
I am not upset over it, because a lot of teams missed on him. If he came over here and messed up people would call him Chad Jackson II.

Is he actually running routes now, or still just flying down the field and having Flacco bomb it to him?

...and those damn Patriots never should have traded down and let the 49ers draft Jerry Rice either. I cannot stand this woulda-shoulda-coulda stuff. Its pointless.

I never hear the times that BB wanted to take a guy but at the last minute decided not to and the player eventually became a bust....

After checking his stats, obviously this is exaggerated but he still couldn't catch a cold. He's having a very pedestrian season which should easily have been the best of all rookie WR's this season.

I didn't like either pick but it's still pointless to bring up every time someone drafted lower has success. You could sit here all day naming lower round draft picks/UDFA's on our team that are outperforming first rounders on other teams too. There's examples for every team

Re: Shane Vareen and Ras I Downling over WR Torrey Smith?

Did you guys watch him beast the bengals today for 6 catches 165 yards?

Re: Shane Vareen and Ras I Downling over WR Torrey Smith?

We should have also traded up in 1998 and drafted Peyton Manning number 1. That way we could have a two quarterback set where you never knew who was going to get the ball from the center.

Unless you can show me where you said this was how you felt prior to his being drafted, I call BS.

As for this being a 'draft blunder' - with the benefit of hindsight anyone can very easily call out any and every single NFL team for something similar, or much worse.

Von Miller would be amazing on the defense. Oh wait.....

A thread complaining about a draft pick...thank God. It's been a week without one, I was starting to go through withdrawls.

I KNEW Brady was going to be a stud, we shouldn't have drafted Jeff Marriott and played with the fire of maybe missing out on him!

Ah, Monday morning draft gurus. Where did Dan Marino go 13th or something?

If you're going to blast a draft pick before he even gets a chance to play, at least spell his name right.

Ron, although I generally agree 100% with this sentiment, I think some of the frustration here was that the team needed a WR and definitely didn't need a #5 RB or a huge injury risk project in the secondary. Notice that there have been one or two better offensive lineman drafted after Solder but because the Pats needed a lineman, no one is on this board complaining about that pick.

Smith has been mad inconsistent so far. He has 590 yards for the season and 317 came in two games. He has as many games as a starter where he caught less than 30 yards including one yard vs.the Jets as he has catching over 100.

I'm tired of this after a player has one good game that the Pats could have drafted people complaining about it. Smith has not been anything special this year outside of today and against a bad Rams defense.

Let's wait more than 1 dam year please? jesus

WR was not a huge need this year. Still isn't. Brady leads the league in passing yards per game. Talk about a huge deficiency.

I do agree with you that drafting a secondary player is a risk considering we have 4 Pro Bowlers back there. Why risk a pick on a clear area of strength.

Also, stop this huge injury risk stuff about Dowling. It is totally fabricated. He played 4 years in college and before his last year, he missed exactly one game due to injuries. If he was huge injury risk, Rob Gronkowski was a gigantic one since he missed more games in college than Dowling.

I know you mean well, but I really hate threads like this. Why did we draft ________ when we clearly should've drafted ________ !!!!!

Like seriously? Especially when it wasn't even a 1st round pick we're talking about. Do you know how many possible players could've been taken at those draft slots? Based on all 32 teams' draft boards, well over 100. And you're lamenting the fact that for whatever reason, we didn't take this one guy?

Especially when one of our "blunder" draftees you mention was a STARTER before getting hurt and the other has yet to have ONE carry.

I'll be the first to admit we've had some busts lately and I wish some of our other guys panned out or we drafted other players, but this kind of bullsh*t? Jesus... give me a break.

Yeah, I mean how many teams are saying that they could have had Rob Gronkowski or Aaron Hernandez rather than whoever they picked before them?

The fact of the matter is that the Pats were probably not scouting WRs because other than the fans' impressions of the fact in hindsight, WR was not a big need going into the draft. Personally, I don't think it is a huge need now since the Pats will probably have the top passing offense in the league after tomorrow night (if the Pats pass for 294 yards tomorrow night, they will be the #1 passing offense in the league).

People complain about not having a WR that stretches the field, but has the Pat' passing problems from the Dallas game on because of that or that Brady got a bone bruise on his passing arm in the Dallas game as reported by Greg Bedard today?
