Am I the only one that believes that the Jets come to play but were just unlucky? - Jets Insider.com Forums

Am I the only one that believes that the Jets come to play but were just unlucky?

Honestly, they team was clearly prepared. They were clearly pumped.

The opening drive was beautiful. Holmes slipped (yes, the ball was a little behind, but a 50 million dollar WR needs to make that play). Nick Folk missed a field goal.

The Jets defense forced 5 three and outs. They forced Tom Brady to throw THREE interceptions (unfortunately, they were dropped).

Bray somehow muscles a ball away from a 300+ LB DE after he fumbles on his own 2.

The Jets had a 9-6 lead with 1 minute left in the half. A strange time out gives the Pats 20 extra seconds. A couple of strange flags allow the Pats to get the ball moving (ticky tack PI on REVIS, really?).

Jets force a 3 and out to start the second half.

McNight fumbles the punt. Three Jets have a CLEAR shot at the thing but somehow don't get it.

They convert a big 3rd and 14 only to have it called back for PIs.

The offense is moving the ball at will, they are at the Pats 30, a pass that would have led to a 5-10 yard gain bounces off Greenes hands and its picked off after two tips.

I can't begin to count how many times the Jets had Brady dead to rights and just somehow, magically, missed easy tackles for sacks.

It was just one of those days. Random chance plays a role in anything involving a ball and gravity. It was the Pats day. The Jets played well, they just didn't make plays even though they put themselves in positions to make them.

A homer fan on a message board making excuses? i know im shocked.

Funny how the breaks always seem to go to the team that's playing harder....

Strange penalties?? The Revis PI call was declined, for crying out loud. Eric Smith twisted Welker's head almost 180 degrees and was flagged for a facemask. That would only have been strange if it -hadn't- been called.

Pretty delusional post.

As unlucky as we were in the playoffs last year.

The Jets unlucky?

Well it's about time, they've been gifted at least 8 wins over the last season & half through nothing but Luck!

I said this in another thread. I have been listening to WFAN and NY ESPN Radio and reading the message boards and there is an overwhelming sentiment that the Jets outplayed the Patriots and if it wasn't for dumb luck or mistakes, the Jets win and win big. And this is not just coming from the fans, it is coming from the media and players too. None of them want to give the Pats any credit.

Apparently, they all went to sleep in the second half where the Pats clearly outplayed them on both sides of the ball.

The funny thing is they refuse to acknowledge the "unlucky" plays on the other side. They didn't acknowledge that the Pats mistakes like Gronkowski stepping out of bounds on a TD pass, Sterling Moore taking out McCourty, Arrington dropping an easy INT in the end zone, Ochocinco stepping out of bounds, etc.

Also, these Jets fans are confusing bad football with luck.

Same Old Jets. Just been unlucky for 42 years and counting... After all, what else could it be...?

Reminds me of the end of raging bull.

I coulda been a contendah!!!!

Ummmm this would be true if it the next play wasn't a safety followed by the Jets driving for a TD off the ensuing free kick. If they recover the fumble it's likely 13 to 7 Pats and the stupid (not unlucky just plain stupid) TO is immaterial. Most of the rest is bull too; just a lot of excuses being made for poor execution/decisions. Hopefully their players believe that it all was "just bad luck" and don't work on fixing the mental laziness that caused most of those plays.

LOL.
Well, we gave them 2 pts, and were unlucky not to have another 4 pts given to us.

I did not get a chance to watch the game live but recorded it. So take it for what it is worth. Watching the game, I don't think the Pats dominated but did enough to win. Brady was terrible in the first half (that is all I have watched so far). The pats were in lots of 3rd and long situations but converted. The Jets did do some stupid things that really hurt them.

The Jets are a really good team that will again cause lots of problems in the post-season.

Typically, the bridge-jumpers are out in force right after a loss. The hysteria abates late Tuesday or Wednesday, and the board mood shifts towards optimism about a victory over the team's next opponent.

Such is the weekly cycle of football homer boards.

I am guessing that in about 80% of all NFL games you can go back and look at a similar number of plays and surmise that the losing team was 'unlucky' and could have, should have, would have won the game if not for some unfortunate breaks. But the reality is that McKnight DID make that fumble, Brady DID avoid those sacks, Greene DID fail to catch the pass, tipping it into the air for an interception.

The Patriots made more plays than the Jets did; to paint the outcome as simply being 'random chance' is a bit disingenuous.

It is not unlike how most fans only notice questionable calls that don't go their way, and don't remember the ones that did go their way. As mentioned earlier in the thread, if they were being objective then they would have acknowledged the similar plays that did not go the Patriots way; I could post something just as slanted and say 'if it weren't for a few unlucky plays the Pats would have won by 40', but it would be just as ridiculous.

But hey, if that's what it takes for them to get through a tough loss that they assumed they would win, go for it.

The Patriots have won three out of the last four meetings. I think its clear which game was the fluke.

Assuming they get to the post season. Getting the Wild Card is going to be tough because there are four or five teams with a legitimate shot at two Wild Card spots.

I do think the Pats did dominate in the second half, but not the first.

Watch the second half...then rewatch the first half...

Too bad your DVR malfunctioned and you missed Brady's TD drive starting with 1:20 on the clock that turned the tide in the 1st half.

Brady did start slow. And his INC pass to Branch shoulda been a pick by Wilson. So instead of sainthood he showed his mortality.

Here's a spoiler. Watch Brady's 2nd half. Especially watch his HOF movements in the pocket as he evades the pass rush and focuses downfield to torch the Jets.
