I'm starting to wonder if the Packers are as good as they seem.

Just look at their schedule thus far. They haven't played even a half-decent pass defense, and won't until Thanksgiving.

They'll end the season 13-3 and so will we.

Green Bay does a great job of drafting playmakers in rounds 1 and 2. All the players drafted in rounds 1 and 2 are from big time program, except maybe Colledge from Boise St. All have played in big games and have excelled. They have decent measurables and great tape to view. These kids tend to be solid players with a little upside.

In rounds 3 and 4 and 5 they tend to go after stars from smaller schools. Guys dominated at the medium and smaller schools. Most all need a little seasoning and a lot of solid coaching. Depending on how bad the kid wants it, determines a lot about that kids future success.

In the last rounds they tend to take "name guys" that have dropped for whatever reason. And they could be from any size school. Most of these guys were discussed as potentially higher draft picks before the season, but for whatever reason, they didn't make that leap and subsequently fell. I guess the thinking here is to try and catch a guy who's light comes on a little late.

Now let's contrast that to the Pats philosophy.

The Pats generally in round one are looking at big school, three down players. They all excel athletically and most were playmakers in college. It is almost a BPA situation, but BB does target by position in this round. Very litle risk or projection when drafting in the first round but all must have upside.

In round two, the Pats tend to gamble, high risk vs. high reward. Again he prefers to stick with big school players, especially those that have played in big games.

Round three is the death nail of the draft for BB. For whatever reason, he takes incredible gambles in this round and for the most part has yet to hit on anything resembling a player in this round. The best thing he can do is trade out of this round, because he just has no clue what how to take productive players in this round.

Round four to seven tend to be system type guys. Guys that are either off the draft radar completely or far from the center for the most part, but with work on technique or strength could fit very well into his system. These are roster depth guys that have a wart or two, but BB thinks with hard work and solid coaching can develop in his system.

However when it comes to UDFA, this is where BB excels. Except for San Diego, no team find as many UDFA players as the Patriots. But best of all, no team can develop and do more with UDFAs than the Patriots. They love these guys, I think because these guys are hungry and will do whatever it takes to play. They all seem to have a chip on their shoulders and something to prove. They are all very coachable and have great attitudes for the most part.

The Packers last few drafts have gone a little better than the Pats last few drafts I'd say, especially the last one. BB probably had his worst draft in his entire tenure here. THis defense needed a lot of help and some better pass rushers especially and he drafts all of these offensive players instead when the offense had been great last season.

For all of the drafts where BB has traded down and collected all of these picks I kept thinking that in one of these drafts he'd go in there and purchase some big time studs early in the first round that were almost can't miss players, but all he ends up doing is trading back again it seems like. For a while he was raping teams and taking their picks away, but I just don't think he has done a whole lot with those picks personally.

I think the Pats are missing Pioli.
