If anyone is interested we can keep all of them in here - at least the more minor ones anyways. Scutaro's option picked up is a great move. He had a decent season and will provide a bridge to Iglesias or whomever comes next.

Dan Wheeler's option not picked up ... is great news. bad enough i have to look at that stupid face Papelbon makes but at least he is valuable. Wheeler with that stupid bury the ball in the glove move. Seriously, dude you are not good enough to do something so annoying. It's not helping so lose it. Would have thought a local guy would pitch well here but you sucked - seriously don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Pete Mackanin - perhaps he would be a decent manager but the dude is 60 years old. If you want to start fresh then you need to hire fresh and 60 years old is not fresh. We don't need someone who dribbles on the way to the mound or who is always running to the bathroom with loose stools. I want someone younger than 50 who sees the game in a new way. These players are not old school and we do not need an old school manager.

Dale Sveum - Are we seriously given this guy an interview? He sucked azz as a 3rd base coach here ... now we are supposed to think he can do more than that. No - don't want him - go away. We do not need a manager named after a chipmunk.

That's it for now ... I'll be back when I have more crap to spew.:cool::cool:
I wish they would let me in on the process - i can spot a bs artist from a mile away. I can also spot azzholes spewing crap better than a hungry fly. Call me Luchino - I'll help you out. I am the guy who said beware of Lackey and Lugo and Rentiria also.

Possibility of bringing in Alex Gonzalez to backup Scutaro for a year or two intrigues me. He is slower with the bat but still a great defender.

Looks like Pap is going to get a boatload of money if reports are true that Madson is about to get 44 mil from the phils.

Pap is worth every penny IMO. The talk now is we are exploring Beltran. I dont care for the move. Beltran is too injury prone to man RF and i would rather sign Ortiz for DH. I love this time of year!

Love Papi but we need more versatility in the DH position. I would prefer to keep Youk and bring up Middlebrooks now. Also keep Scutaro (signed) and bring up iglesias now. I am intrigued by Beltran if the price is right then sign him. You, Gonzalez and Beltran can share the DH position.

I am not in favor of paying a boatload for papelbon ... not worth it IMO. If we're going to spend a boatload on a pitcher hen I will take a starter please.

But a boatload for Papelbon (or any closer) is less than a boatload for a starter.

Who are the attractive starters available? There's CJ Wilson. Buehrle. Maybe Kuroda? anybody else?

Thanks. My name is Dale and I'm pushing 60.

Guy out of Japan but I don't want to go that route

the last thing the redsox needed was to lose good pitching. pap leaving hurts. if you asked me a year ago i would have said differently. he had a really good year. wish he had stayed.

Without question it hurst -- same would have been the case a year ago.

But writing was on the wall, now what matters is who they sign.

Madson's probably ok, but not as good as Papelbon. His asking price makes me think the Sox won't pursue him -- Papelbon was a far better value.

Bell is good but was helped a bit by his home park, and the dropoff in his strikeouts would worry me. He's also older. I'd say sign him for a year or two, if he'd go for that, but then you're giving up the draft picks for fewer years of the free agent signing (I assume he's a type A).

I think Bell would be the perfect signing. 34 years old? If he takes a 2 year deal it would be ideal for Bard to transition into the closing role.

Madson is also a good choice. Either or I'm good.

Loved what Papelbon did while he was here. 2007 baby. However he sure could be a diva at times and certainly did stick his foot in his mouth a few times over the years. However i will not miss the try to be angry, tough face which looks more like a pouty, you stole my candy face. Take the good with the bad and it was a great run with him in Boston. Good luck to him in his future.

pap was never one of my favorite players but I appreciated what he did for us. One more save in the last month of the season and we make the playoffs - he faded down the stretch so good for him what he got paid but I am glad we did not offer him that much - i do not think he's worth it for 4 years. We more need pitching that can get us to the 9th than we do a pitcher who can close the 9th out IMO.

I'll take the draft pick this time.

Jonathan Papelbon did a fine job in Boston. He is a popular player and was instrumental in the 2007 championship run. I'm glad we had him and I wish him well.

Having said that, IMHO he is not worth becoming the #1 paid reliver in terms of total dollars and 2nd only to Mariano Rivera in terms of average dollars per year. The Red Sox were wise not to match this offer.

i used to think of bell as the best closer

but yeah i think he wouldn't work out well for you guys

i agree that petco park has benefited him, he gave up alot of long outs last season

Agreed.

the thing that drives me crazy about the sox is they never seem to go the extra mile to resign players of there own. damon bay ect ect. but they are so willing to shell out the cash and extra years to guys like crawford and lackey. players that haven't done anything for the redsox. i hope the same thing doesn't happen with ellsbury but i think it will.

If Ellsbury leaves it won't be because they aren't willing to pay him. You better believe if he has another season like last year they will offer top dollar for him. I'm worried he'll leave for the alienation of a couple of years ago.{if true}

ALOT can happen before he's a free agent. Sometimes time heals old wounds such as the way the Logan Mankins situation played out.

Bay?

Haven't they signed Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Pedroia and Youk to long-term deals?
