You know me and my displeasure with Belichick and the way the team has headed the past few years, and I don't see the team winning the SB this year...but what makes the Jets invincible?

To me the Steelers are a far superior team (which a much better QB) and they only beat us by 8 points playing the game of their lives.

I see this game being a close, 20-17 type of game either way.

Because the sky is falling. Or at least that's what I've gathered on here.

From where I sit the Jets are far from invincible, they are incredibly flawed. The issue is the Jets have a defense and a complimentary offense. The Patriots have a stuttering offense and a defense.

Combine the two sides appear headed on opposite trajectories and the fact that the game is at MetLife and you get the reasonable conclusion that the Jets should start favorites and rightfully so.

IF the Patriot O gets back to their former selves, the Patriots don't need to fear anyone. We may not win them all but we will win most of them. If the O doesn't get back to their former selves, the Patriots should fear the Jets, Steelers, Ravens, Cincy and every team that is not Indy or Miami.

Maybe it's a raw deal but it is what it is (the formula for Patriot victories predicated on significantly superior offense is a discussion for another thread). The Patriots are built to outscore their opponents. They are not built to win grind out defensive match ups (though I hope the D can improve on this past Sunday's game).

The offensive mediocrity over the past several games is either a valley and the peak is just around the corner or we will, likely, lose as many games as we win.

Bottom line, if the valley continues, we are well founded to fear the Jets because losing to them is more likely than defeating them (as much as I hate to say that).

Pretty sure that's where everyone sits.

Did I miss a thread or something?

they just beat a better pats team in the playoffs, right?

seems like an obvious reason

You could be forgiven for having thought the walls had caved in and that people were taking crazy pills given the reaction of people here over the past few days.

My opinion is simple, the Jets are a run of the mill team and the Patriots may very well join them there soon. I'm tipping the Jets because the Patriots haven't beaten Rex in New York yet. No other reason.

also, it's hard to call the steelers far superior, they barely beat the jags, the same reason it's hard to call the ravens far superior, they lost to the jags

i look at the entire afc and i see one word, parity

Not afraid but just aware of the incredible odds stacked against the team based on the past history like we always split with jets every year, it is a road game @ a hostile place and our O is stuttering and they have a good D etc etc

But since it is very clear that we are not going places this season and have nothing to lose, doesn't that make us a more dangerous team this week

everybody but the chargers. they still suck. who have they beat ? the broncos ?

back to the op. the reason certain people fear the jets is because they watch too much espn.

There are a ton of reasons to think that the Jets game on Sunday will be a very tough matchup, but you've got to stay optimistic.

You can start with thinking about the problems that we have currently are having...then you can consider their individual matchups and strengths (CB play, Revis limiting Welker, Cromartie limiting ??? Branch)...then you can think about their WR's and the problems they may pose against an inconsistent secondary/defense...take the crowd + SNF into effect...

I am sure we all could think of our concerns, but why bother? It's only making me nervous.

To be perfecty honest, I actually felt better before reading your thread. No lie ;)

Our offense hasn't played good football for quite a few weeks...and you really never know what to expect from this D.

the chargers are the only team i'm afraid of lol

Succinct yet accurately says a lot about what the Patriots are, going into game 9 of the 2011 season. Unfortunately this is why Patriot Nation has to fear any team that is a winning team (like the Jets). However, the moment the O gets back to its 'umpteen' 30+ point games in a row, everyone can begin to chill out.
The good news is Brady has shown year after year that he can lead a high scoring offense. No compelling reason jumps out at me as to why that has all of a sudden changed. Arguably Brady and the O in the past have still been very effective with less potent receivers.

not to pile on, but they are frightful.

all the charger fans i know love watching espn because they never talk about the chargers. for charger fans, thats a good thing.

They are likely still the consensus pick for the AFCW crown though.

Personally, I'm not really afraid of KC or OAK, that's for sure.

SD still has the ability to get things together, and didn't exactly bow out to lowly teams in the past 2 weeks with Green Bay and the NYJ in New York.

They have as good a shot as many of the AFC teams--in my opinion.

i avoid espn and any sports shows after a loss, so i haven't watched much over the past month

my chargers are having a really off year.....a very very weird year, a quick start for a change, but a completely cybil team

i've been a fan for over 30 years now, and i've never quite seen them put it all together, even when they finish off regular seasons with large win streaks, they still just make several boneheaded mistakes

i can't wait till they move out of san diego
