How many people here really dislike Mangini?

I, for one, don't. He was here. He got offered a HC position. He left. Good for him. Clearly he was ready. I would have taken the job too, no matter what Belichick advised. And he doesn't hate the Jets the way Belichick does dating back to them talking w/ Parcells during Super Bowl week 10 years ago.

As for the Branch thing. I don't know if he tampered or not. But him getting involved to strap the Pats was just a slick move by a division rival until proven otherwise.

I could care less either way........the only thing that I could think of that would draw the ire of belichik the way it has is that mangini made some kind of promise to belichik that he wouldn't go to the AFC east or he wouldn't go to the jets, and then he did..........he has the right to take the better job whenever he gets it

that said, I think what the jets are doing is mirroring what the dolphins did last year........the higher expectation along with the tougher schedule (and the AFC east schedules look like murder next year), the jets could well be back at the bottom of the division

I remember laughing out loud at Felger when he said "Mangini should run away from the HC position with the Jets", he went on to describe how the Jets were going now where and were a cancerous organization. Nailed that Felger...

Put yourself in Mangini's shoes, 10 years ago he was a ball boy and then he gets a chance to become a head coach and makes millions of dollars. Seems like a no brainer to me, even if he failed all these coaches get 2nd, 3rd and forth chances.

I am sure he pissed BB off royally but that is not his problem, if I remember BB upset Parcells when the whole Jets situation went down. They replayed some of BB's press conference when he was leaving the Jets, classic stuff. I have never seen a more incoherent rambling press conference. BB is the best coach but he is not Mr. Personality.

A lot of people dismiss how well the defense was playing at the end of the last year, they were peaking heading into the play-offs just as the Jets are now. As the DC he should get some credit for the improved play at the end of lasy year, I mean he had Duane f--ing Starks and Monty f--ing Beisel as starters and still they defense picked things up towards the end of 05.

I wish Mangini luck and hope he loses every game.

Belichick actually gave Mangini props, saying that him and his staff (and actually using his name) are doing an exceptional job and we will have to play our best game to win. Something to that effect

I heard a Patriots montage before the Rams Super Bowl, and one of the parts was pieces of that press conference of Belichick leaving but better was Jets president Steve Gutman complaining about it. They put a baby crying in the background. Classic.

I think the Branch thing was a classless way to say thanks. Raid the other team all you wish ... but wait till their contracts are up. I don't hate the man ... he's made a good rivalry better, how can anyone hate that.

Belichick underestimated him last time ... and it won't happen again. I think their relationship will be fine after Belichick screws him over in the draft. ;)

I don't like Mangini. I think he has actively disrespected BB via the Branch episode and other underhanded behind-the-scenes dealing with our coaches and players that are sketchy but troubling. He also seems kind of full of himself. I wish him the worst (football-wise). I believe BB's supposed antipathy toward him is probably well founded but something we'll never know the details of.

Save that for next year ... Belichick is 1st in line for this year and he doesn't look like he wants to share this demolition with anyone except the players.

After this weekend his name will change from Mangenius to Manchumpias.

I tend to agree...I really think we do NOT know all the details of what happened..and we may never know..it seems he could have left in a classles way and then..ddi things like tamper with Branch, which would continue in that trend..I agree..I hope he falls on his face...

I think he's horribly overrated.

This 2006 Jets team gets a lot of credit coming off of last year's debacle but that 2005 team that was totally ravaged by injuries all season long. The year before, the Jets were, ta da!, 10-6. Same record as this year. And guess what? That 2004 Jet team was better than this year's edition in every way:

This years team: 25th in offensive yardage, 20th in yardage allowed. They can't run the ball (30th in ypc) or stop the run (27th in ypc allowed).

The 2004 Jets: 12th in offensive yardage, 7th in yardage allowed. They were VERY good in running the ball (4th in ypc) AND stopping the run (4th in ypc allowed).

FootballOutsiders has the Jets as the 19th best team in the NFL this year. That sounds about right to me. This team caught some teams by surprise and played a pretty easy string of games. They are going to fall right back into mediocrity next season and Mangini is going to look like a one-hit wonder.

This may be true and could account for the one mid-field cold shoulder, but Belichick was quite effusive in his praise when Mangini left.

As for the man himself, I don't know him. Except as the coach of next Sunday's opponent, but I have to give him his props. Cupcake schedule or not, he did bring a 4-12 team to 10-6 and got them to the playoffs in one year. That's pretty remarkable no matter who it is.

I'm not a big fan.....the Deion Branch fiasco didn't help either. The rivalry is fun, though and I do believe his players believe in him. I'm sure he's a fine coach but something about him just has always rubbed me the wrong way. (Yes, even when he was w/the Pats.) I used to love to dislike Wade Phillips..for no concrete reason...I guess now Eric Manschemey is my new coach of disdain.

Belichick was quite effusive in his praise when Saban {became coach of Miami}

As for the man himself, I don't know him. Except as the coach of a division opponent, but I have to give him his props. Cupcake schedule or not, he did bring a 4-12 team to 9-7 and almost got them to the playoffs in one year. That's pretty remarkable no matter who it is.

The altered coach above proceeded to add a former pro-bowl QB as well as some good young players at RB, LB and CB. His team flopped in year two. Did his coaching regress? Was it great in the first place?

Bad luck and bad coaching can make a team look worse than it really is. An upgrade from poor to good is just as big of a difference as from OK to great. Add in a season devoid of turmoil and catastrophic injuries and you have your "surprise" team.

I am not sold on Mangin by a long shot. I think he will prove himself to be worthy of the position, but he has a long way to go to show me that he is anywhere near the upper echelon yet.

I love Mangini. He gave us Dean Pees.

He's a Jet I hate him end of story, until he is no longer a Jet.

I don't blame him for taking the job. But, I'm not to keen on him going to a division rival.

I couldn't disagree more. It was a very short sighted thing to do considering the long term damage that it caused.

What did the Jest gain from it? Nothing. We are 12-4 without Branch and we would have been 12-4 with him. After this week the Jest will be done and we will have 2 first round draft choices. Plus we will have a lot of cap space to get stronger next year.

He's an ingratious snake whose horrific secondary calls late in that game almost cost us Super Bowl XXXIX. He'll come back to earth next year.

True....can anyone pull the text of what BB said when he left and post it in a new thread or send it to those herald and globe fellas so all those media idiots who think BB got pissed because mangini left can realize what the truth is ?

I think he's a traitorous jerk, who bit the hand that fed him!!!!! It's not like he wouldn't have gotten an HC job sooner or later. It's not like he was starving.

He's stated that he learned everything he knows about coaching in the NFL, from Belichick. Belichick trusted him and treated him like a son, and this is how he repays him? By attempting to steal away his coaches and players, while he's still under contract with the Patriots!! (something that's considered taboo in the coaching world btw). It's one thing to approach them after you've officially moved on, but it's totally unacceptable to do it while still under contract with your old team. That's why you didn't see any bad blood between Romeo and Belichick, or evan Saban for that matter.

I feel bad for the guy, he teaches this kid everything he knows about the game and then the kid turns around and uses it against him. That has to hurt!! He was with him for ten years, he probably loved the kid.

Benedict Mangini!! I hope he loses every game.
