too much over the past 4 years I think the patriots have been the favorites and havent really had to deal with adversity..which has lulled them into a false sense of confidence and in turn losing in the playoffs...and lets be honest, all these awards and praises and streaks dont matter...playoff wins do.

we saw it just last year. the pats were blowing out teams and cruised to a 14-2 season...impressive. but they were overconfident and kicked out of the first round...would you give up a couple wins in the reg season for some in the playoffs? I sure would

How this team handles this adversity and deals with it next week can have a big impact on them. and if anything it should make the team much stronger come playoff time instead of the teams who breezed by in the regular season.

im not about to jump off the cliff like everyone here. this loss was a VERY frustrating one because I think the team showed alot of fight to come back. I bet this is eating at brady and we will have a much more focused patriots team next week against the jets....the seasons not over

I recall a team did this back in 2001, and went on to win it all....oh wait:singing:

I for one have mixed feelings about the home win streak ending. I am sad that it ended, but I'm also glad that the streaks are coming to an end.

It seems that this team is always reaching some milestone, and that's awesome, but you almost wonder if sometimes the players are thinking about that stuff instead of football.

I hope you're right though. Maybe this team did need a few weeks of getting its ass kicked so it can find its identity.

Why do a lot of people think any negative analysis of this team, means "jump of the cliff"? They F'd up today. Yes, they are a great team, but Brown blew it! Plain and simple. This team is coming along , but bone headed plays at critical times are killing us, Go Pats, NO MATTER WHAT!

Most of us are not worried about the team eventually bouncing back and playing good games in december but more of the fact that what we have is what we have....

The absolute worst secondary in the NFL and there is not a true playmaker other than a few plays from Arrington and Chung.....McCourty is not progressing off his rookie season and the rest of the Safeties and Corners are true garbage.

The talent is what it is back there...slim talent and poor talent and the playoffs aren't going to suddenly change things.

I remember years ago when the fans were worried about Harrison and Bruschi and Seymour missing some games with injury, but the difference back in those days was that you knew than when the playoffs began you might get one or two of them back....I wish we had those problems these days.

agreed, some people here don't like criticism very much. Yes some are overly pessimistic but others are just being realists. This team just may be better off being one of those teams that just gets into the playoffs and goes on a run and they are more than capable of doing that. My only gripe is that this team has had the same damn problem for the past 4 years and it hasn't improved. This game against the Jets is pivotal.

im not saying all "negative analysis" is jumping off the cliff....but you open some of these threads and theres posters saying theres no way we can win against the jets, we will be lucky to make the playoffs, how we are the worst team...its overly dramatic with the negativity.

this defense isnt good, but its progressing in a positive direction....the problem is that the offense is regressing. bradys reliance on welker/gronk is reminiscent of how he used to force the ball to Moss. we need someone else to emerge as a threat...Branch is just too inconsistent, ocho cant get on the same page with brady, and price is injured

as a positive though, I doubt brady will play this bad next week. and Ocho was able to get open. some of those passes to him were bad though

I just think that this type of situation the pats are in will build alot more toughness and character than going 14-2 and blowing out teams..so you ignore the problems that your team may have...of course thats all dependent on if the pats can bounce back next week against the jets with inspired play on both sides of the ball

Someone saying this shouldn't be talking about anyone being overly negative, because he's being just as silly in the opposite direction.

the defense lost the game in the last few minutes giving up 2 TD's

but, i'm not going to lie to myself and say that they didn't play good the first 3 quarters of the game....they got stops on 3rd down, pressured the QB there were positives in there

There are positives in pretty much every game, if you look hard enough. They had a favorable matchup for the defense, and they pissed it away. They just collapsed against a team without its #1 WR and #1 RB. This is one week after one of the worst defensive performances in BB's tenure.

Where's the asterisk for the Pats missing their starting strong safety and their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ILBs on that last drive?

You're kidding me, right? You figure that the only reason Brown made that idiotic penalty is his slot on the roster? You figure that's the same as a team missing it's top receiver for the entire game and they should be held in equal regard? What is he doing on the roster if that's all he's good for? The Patriots are all about "middle class" and depth, and Sanders and Meriweather were let go for stiffs like Brown.

85 and 80 yards in a 5:25 span.

That was the first thing i thought after the game. Pretty much gave up two game winning drives like it was nothing.

Yes, but other than..... :bricks:

I'm not using it as an excuse for that drive. I'm pointing out your inconsistencies of giving the Giants credit for doing what they did without some contributors while ignoring that the Pats kept the Giants in check until their own injuries caught up to them. Is it really worth mentioning that the Giants were using a backup WR when it was a backup S on the Pats trying to cover? You act like the Giants should've been shut out since they were missing their #1 WR and #1 RB. Doesn't that mean a defense missing two starters should have its standards lowered too?

There's nothing inconsistent about it. Again, there's a difference between missing the #1 WR and #1 RB for an entire game and missing a safety that takes more snaps, but isn't clearly the man, for a drive.

You should be honest enough about what you're looking at to acknowledge that. If you can't do that, there's really no sense in trying to re-examine the game.

And this was the 32nd ranked defense that just got raped a week ago. No one predicted a half time shut out.

Well...that's pretty much like us losing Welker and BJGE vs them losing Antrel Rolle(who was out for some time) and that rookie linebacker they had starting for them.

Guess which one hurts what team more?

Losing defenders is different than losing offensive skill players though. Only one receiver has to get open on a given play. If one WR doesn't get open, it's okay as long as another one does. If any one defender fails in coverage, then it doesn't matter if the rest have their guy completely shut down. They can just pick on that one all drive, which they did.

(That's part of why we saw so many points early in the season. Neither offenses or defenses were ready to play given the limited offseason, but only one receiver has to make a play on offense to score points, while all the defenders have to make a play to keep points off the board.)

who knows maybe thats what this team needs the kick in the A** of being the 5 or 6 seed and being the under dog on the road
