Alright, let me get this out of the way. I have a healthy respect for TN and Coach Fisher. My father lives in TN and we have kept track of each other's teams for the past 5-7 years. They are a tough team and I have even gone as far as adopting them as my team of choice once NE is out of the running.

That said, they were a dispicable bunch of bastards on Sunday. It was clear from the get-go that their entire game plan was based on eliminating as many NE players from the game as possible. The block of Rodney was legal, but certainly contained malicious intent, especially considering the fact that one of his knees was surgically repaired just a year ago. The head hunting (or knee hunting, as it were) continued on an even worse, yet thankfully less discussed dive by Kyle Vanden Bosch into Brady's knees. Brady, and all of us, should be thanking out lucky stars that Brady's foot didn't get stuck in the muddy track and Vanden Bosch just harmlessly slipped off. Just a truly disgusting act. Of course the nadir of humanity himself, Mawae got into the act with his cheap shot on Warren (?).

Oh well. On to the random thoughts.

* How Harrison keeps getting voted the dirtiest player in the league when a bastitch like Mawae is running around is beyond me. For those that don't remember, Mawae was directly invovled on Ted Washington's broken leg in 2003 and Seymour's MCL sprain in 2004. Harrison may give a little extra shove to let know know that he is there, but he doesn't bend a guy's leg until it snaps or roll a few extra times to ensure that an engaged guy's knee bends the wrong way. What an unbelievable scumbag that guy is.

* Count me among those surprised that NE played the guys as long as they did. I have a funny feeling that NE may have played some guys a little longer than originally thought to stick it to TN after they started with their questionable tactics.

* Vince Young is hard guy to tackle. I still stand by my post before the game that he is as of right now the best running QB in the game. He is goiing to have to work on his accuracy, though. There is now way that any of his WRs will ever play a full season if he keeps throwing 4-5 balls ta game that force the WR to leap up unprotected like that. In fairness to VY, my father did tell me that Sunday was his worst accurate game so far.

* My dad thinks that TN needs some receivers, but I am not so sure. If they don't lose Bennett I think they can be a decent group, particularly with Young's scrambling ability. I think that they need defensive help. IMHO they really don't have a whole lot beyond Vanden Bosch, Bullock and Pac Man. Haynesworth can be good, but he isn't consistent enough.

* Watching the Denver and Indy games simultaneously was a little interesting. I wanted the Jets, and one of the horsies had to lose, but since both were playing close games it was possible that both lost, which I didn't want. So with every anti-horsie play I both cheered and fretted. It all worked out for the best, though.

* Indy got the worst possible matchup in the first round, except maybe Jacksonville. KC will rush for at least 150 yards, but I'm not sure if they will be able to stop Indy's offense. If they had a better coach I would take KC, but I can't side with the Herminator.

Now it is onto the Jets. I still maintain that the game in Nov was NE's worst game since the beginning of 2003. The Jets won the battle on both lines handily (and still allowed 143 yards rushing, BTW) and NE played far too conservatively with their CBs. Even on the final drive the Jets got a first down with Crotchery on a 3rd and 5 using a simple swing pass because the CB was 7-8 yards off of him. I can't see NE getting beat so soundly on the DL again, particularly with Warren back and Seymour and Wright playing so well right now. Frankly, even if Wilfork doesn't play, I will be very surprised if the Jets run for more than 70 yards unless they get a fluke 50 yarder. Even then they won't go over 100.

Harrison's injury upsets me because he was the key to playing the CBs up on the WRs. Pennington cannot throw a deep pass well at all and NE just gave yards away last time. Coles and Crotchery will still make a few plays, but I do think that Sanders' improved play will allow NE to be more aggressive than before and NE will get a pick or two out of it.

The Jets absolutely suck at stopping the run. Their blitz happy strategy has now been experienced and NE will have more success passing the ball. I don't see how the Jets go over 13 points and I don't see how the Jets can stop NE from getting at least 20. I do think that the game will be close for 3 quarters or so, but then NE will assert their dominance and put the game away 24-13.

IMO, there's a difference between a hard hitter and someone playing dirty. Rodney hits hard, but I for one have never seen Rodney do anything I would call dirty, whereas Mawae is just a total idiotic bum who does in fact play dirty with intent.

I do think Rodney - and the whole Pats team - shouldn't have let themselves get caught up in the Titans' stupidity on Sunday, but they're competitors and you gotta hold your own out there. I saw Brown and Colvin mouthing off to Titans, I'm sure they were just reminding those assclowns that they'd be watching the playoffs from home next week.

I don't know if you are disagreeing with me, but if you are I must have done a terrible job of explaining my position. We agree completely on Rodney and Mawae.

I think that having a game like this past one against TN might be good for the Pats. It certainly stoked their fire a little.

No, I was agreeing with you completely about Harrison and Mawae. I think my "IMO" is throwing you off - but I was merely trying to add on to what you had said, agreeing with your premise.

I agree about the game stoking their fire a little - it felt like playoff intensity almost.

I do regret what happened to Rodney - bottom line is, Sunday I was feeling like "we shouldn't have played our guys, shouldn't have played that hard, etc.", but you can't predict that the other team is going to be a complete bunch of as*hol*s who have never been there before, have no idea how to act, and are going for cheap shots and mouthing off. You have to go out there and be competitive every week, no matter what, that's what the Pats did, and the Titan's ridicolous behavior is out of their control.

I'd forgotten that jerk off Mawae was with the Titans until he had that late push in the first half and I yelled at #68 - then I saw it was Mawae and all was clear. There's no doubt in my mind that we played our guys longer and went downfield more to rub those guys' faces in the dirt.

24-13 ? I'm looking at about 27-6 :)

I forgot to say one more thing. How in hell can a guy get flagged for running beside an opposing player yet a player not get flagged for an obvious face mask when there was no one else around to obstruct the refs' views?

I missed this, what are the two plays you're comparing?

The PI call on NE and the tackle by VY after his Int.

You're right, that was a blatant face mask by VY, perhaps the worst part is that Enberg and Cross were about to mess themselves over how amazing the "tackle" by Young was. Yeah, any tackle looks pretty vicious when you grab onto their freakin facemask as you run by them!

I missed much of the game because I was out with friends because of the New Year. We took a road trip to Orlando and because of that had to find a place to watch the game without knowing which place would A) have the Ticket, and B) would have enough space for a party of seven. It turned out that we had to go to three places before I got to sit down and actually watch the game.

I missed most of the first quarter. I saw the hit on Rodney. I saw the 'almost bad' hit on Brady, which did draw a flag, right? I didn't see Mawae's hit on Warren though. In general I felt that the Titans were playing very dirty. I developed a hatred for them by the end of the game.

Oh well. On to the random thoughts.

How Harrison keeps getting voted the dirtiest player in the league when a bastitch like Mawae is running around is beyond me [...] What an unbelievable scumbag that guy is.

I'd forgotten that Mawae went to Tenn, and didn't catch his hit on Warren, so I didn't have any frothing 'THAT ****ER MAWAE!#$%' moments as I did when he was a Jet, but I'm sure had I realized he was there I would have.

Count me among those surprised that NE played the guys as long as they did. I have a funny feeling that NE may have played some guys a little longer than originally thought to stick it to TN after they started with their questionable tactics.

For some reason I'm on the other side of the fence. I was actually surprised when they pulled Brady as early as they did. I don't know why I felt that way, but I did, and actually still do. Weird.

Vince Young is hard guy to tackle.

I thought he had a really good game for a Rookie against our Defense, considering that our HC has a history of making young QBs look like dog dung. I came away from the game with alot of respect for what Young can do to a football game. From his effort on Asante's return to his long TD run to his lazer darts downfield I was in all very impressed. He made a few bad throws resulting in INTs, but as he matures those should decrease. I think he's a a very near future star in this league.

Watching the Denver and Indy games simultaneously was a little interesting. I wanted the Jets, and one of the horsies had to lose, but since both were playing close games it was possible that both lost, which I didn't want. So with every anti-horsie play I both cheered and fretted. It all worked out for the best, though.

I was glad to see Denver not make the playoffs. I was pissed that the Dolphins couldn't put Indy down another peg. I wasn't thinking much about the seeding or who we'd have to play, I was more intent on Indy truly backsliding into the Playoffs. Ah well, their run D still sucks like mad, so I'm not sure they'll be able to stop KC from running at will. Wouldn't shock me if they made an early exit, though Herm may find a way to lose. And that Indy offense is looking really good still. Who knows.

Now it is onto the Jets. I still maintain that the game in Nov was NE's worst game since the beginning of 2003. [...] they won't go over 100.

I think that this Jets game is the most interesting matchup of the year so far, as we looked so good against them for one half, and then so bad against them for a game and a half beyond that. We'll have to find a way to play alot more good football than we did so far if we want the third meeting to be a win.

Harrison's injury upsets me [...]

Me too, and for all the same reasons as you stated. Also, being that our first playoff game is against a division rival it would have been really nice to have Harrison in there to direct the secondary against a familiar foe. I'm sure he understands things about the Jets offensive players that Sanders or Hawkins probably don't yet. He can pass that stuff on in the film room and meetings, but it's different hearing something in a classroom and reacting to it in gamespeed. Well, at least Hawkins is still in there. We'll need him and Sanders to play a good game.

I'll save my prediction for Alamo's contest (if it still runs in the playoffs, I'm not sure), but I feel like the Patriots are really going to have to play their best game of the year to bounce the Jets. I'd be much more confident if the Pats hadn't been basically cow-tied and beaten in the last meeting. As it stands, I'd gladly take a 3 point victory. Just win, baby.

The PI call on NE and the tackle by VY after his Int.

I was watching on a very old big screen projection type tv outdoors, so I didn't see the facemask. It looked like a straight clothesline play to me.

And yeah, I was fuming about the PI call on Hobbs (I assume that's the one you meant). I thought it was complete and utter bullshizzle. It's like the officials know he's been called alot and watch for any possible chance to flag him. Bunk.

I'm not so sure it was a facemask. Looked like Vince caught him just below the neck to me.

Brownfan post

* The Mawae hit was at the end of a run. The play was essentially over although I think the hit came just as the whistle was blowing so it wasn't technically "late". The RB was stopped and the defender (I think it was Warren. I'm about 90% sure that it was a DL) in question was holding up Henry so his body wouldn't fall forward another yard. Mawae comes charging through a crowd of players standing around to just level "Warren". Think Chad Clifton/Warren Sapp of a few years ago except the offending player came in from the side and the recipient of the hit was closer to the ball. It was bad enough that I called my father on the spot and tore into him for his guys questionable tactics.

* The Brady play was a RTP, yes.

* It wasn't the Ints that worried me from my "Titan perspective" it was the high throws.

* You have a much higher opinion of the Jets than I. I will be embarrassed if the Jets win. They are not that good.

BTW, I was watching the NFLN yesterday and I was surprised that there were a few guys that shared my opinion of the Mangini. Jim Mora and the big fat guy who is on all the time were set up by the non-Eison host to polish EM's knob but they did not oblige. They basically said that the Jets were not really a 4-12 last year. They had a large amount of injuries, particularly to the QB position and that pushed their record down some. The fat guy was quick to point out that the Jets were almost in the AFCCG just the year before. I was pleasantly surprised that there are any media members that actually realize that EM had more in the cupboard than popular opinion suggests.

Sorry Browns, but you guys aren't correct. VY grabs Samuel's facemask and you can clearly see his head turn as he is tackled.

It most certainly was a facemask.

Well the "tackle" by VY may have been a facemask but it sure looked like it was a clothesline. I asked this in the chat room. VY should have been flagged for that because he CLEARLY caught Samuel across the head with his arm out straight.

If a clothesline tackle is a personal foul than I will just conceed the argument because it doesn't matter either way......

But I saw that play several times and I am 100% sure that VY grabs the mask with his hand as he is finishing the tackle.

Oswelk -
I changed my post slightly because I will be honest, I don't remember it being a facemask, BUT with as high as VY hit Samuel, he could have caught the facemask as well.

And, yes, a Clothesline tackle is supposed to be a personal foul penalty.

Oh, I wasn't really staking a claim. I was just saying that's all I could see because of the ****ty TV I was lookin at. lol.

Way to stand firm there, buddy.

Man, I can't wait until Mawae gets his. He's such a miserable bastard. I wonder if fans of other teams hate him as much as we Patsfans do.. or if he saves his worst behaviour for when he plays the Patriots? What a jackass.

The Brady play was a RTP, yes.

Yeah, I do remember that play then. I remember thinking that we were lucky that his leg didn't stick in the loose earth as he stumbled backwards.

It wasn't the Ints that worried me from my "Titan perspective" it was the high throws.

I'm sure the Titans WRs agree with you. lol. In fact, one of the INTs was on an overthrown/high ball. Good call.

You have a much higher opinion of the Jets than I. I will be embarrassed if the Jets win. They are not that good.

Against the other teams in the NFL, no they haven't been. But they sure looked good against us for three out of the four halfs of football I've watched. I hope we destroy them, but after watching the two games this year I'm not expecting that type of game.

BTW, I was watching the NFLN yesterday and I was surprised that there were a few guys that shared my opinion of the Mangini. I just wonder how many of those bobbleheads wish they'd picked the Jets as a contender isntead of Miami. NY didn't win the AFCE, but at least they're in the playoffs.

I, for one, have thought that the Jets talent was not the issue this year. They're not stocked with allstars, but they have more than enough talent to be a winning ballclub. Hence my respect for them this weekend. Between EM's familiarity with us, and the way the past two games have gone... it's just up in the air for me.

I know one thing for certain: I'll be screaming my head off at the TV no matter which way it goes.

:D

Happy New Year Oswlek.
