Tim Tebow criticism says a lot about us ... and it's not good - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

Column is spot on. Why is young and raw QB Tim Tebow, who plays for a bad Denver Bronco team the subject of national media and fan discussion?? I've watched and read in amazement at the sheer volume of coverage and criticism this young player receives. Why is this young QB the subject of such vitriol?? Jamarcus Russell was an embarrassing dud as an NFL QB, a 1st rounder who bombed and yet was never met with half the vitriol or nastiness that Tim Tebow has faced. Jamarcus Russell was never a national discusssion. Tim Tebow is.
Why??
Because the viciousness against Tebow is because he is devout and open about his Christian faith. No doubt about it. Most media is liberal media and liberal media is anti-anything that is pro-America, pro-family, pro-religion.
Was good to hear Steve DeOssie on Sports Tonight make that very observation. The unfairness is being noted by others in the media.
Never really followed Tebow that much in college but I must say I'm rooting for him to find success in the NFL. I don't like unfairness and I don't like the mob mentality. I found it ugly with the media bloodsport involving SpyGate and I find it ugly with the Tebow coverage.

I hope he evolves into a good QB. He looked terrible last week, but it's still very early.

Funny, I think people are treating Tebow with kid gloves overall. If not for his rabid fanbase, the reaction to his terrible play and completely hopeless future as an NFL QB would be much harsher.

It is amazing how angry and vocal the TVedia is about this.
Its like someone is doing something to them by allowing Tebow to play.
I know this will sound bad, but from an ESPN viewpoint, it seems racially based.

Well, I'll have to say I respecfully disagree. When I look at Tebow, I see a man playing QB that does not appear to have the skills.

Watching any NFL player, I judge on the field. I have no idea on their religious preferences.

Oh please, everyone's a victim, boo hoo. You forgot to mention the never ending coverage pumping him up and praising him, that he was never a legitimate NFL QB prospect and that his teams pea brained fan base were clamoring for him to play despite doing nothing to earn the job.

So true. Devout Christians really have it tough in the good ole' US of A. And it's a terrific point, too, since we know that Tebow is the first pious player to ever play in the NFL.

You've hit on the perfect word that describes much of the media commentary re: Tim Tebow.
Angry
People get angry when it's personal to them. Why is it so personal with so many when it comes to young NFL QB Tim Tebow?? You say it's race based. Could be. I think much of it is anti-Christian at its' core. Perhaps we're both right. One thing is for certain. This young man has come under more scrutiny and judgement than any other young player in the NFL. This kid has had what 5 starts in the NFL?? He's started 5 games and just look at the volume of commentary and criticism of him. There is an underlying reason for that. No other 1st rounder from 2010 has met this level of vitriol. Not even close.

Any time a highly-publicized athlete wears his/her religion and/or politics on his/her sleeve, s/he will likely be a polarizing figure. While I would rather not see athletes do that and I likely don't share many of Tim Tebow's beliefs, I think it's disgraceful that he has been subjected to rididule because of those beliefs. With that said, I just don't think he has the talent to be an NFL quarterback, but that's just my opinion.

That is not true at all.

Again, Tebow - if anything - should be thankful of how overwhelmingly positive the media is in the treatment of him. The guy has a fanbase bigger than most NFL QBs and he's accomplished nothing on the pro level.

OMG...Steve DeOssie blamed something on the liberal media? Knock me over with a feather...

It's a common phenomenon, not exclusive to Tebow. The media hypes up a player or team, and that story gets repeated over and over and over again. When the unrealistic expectations are not met, both fans and the media can't wait to tear into that very same player or team over the alleged failure.

On a side not I have seen speculation that the Broncos are actually setting Tebow up for failure so they can dump him. He was drafted by McDaniels and the current regime doesn't want him - but their hands were somewhat tied because the Denver fans have been calling for him to start for some time now. The theory is that the trading of Brandon Lloyd would leave him without his best offensive weapon, they knew he wasn't ready to start in the NFL, and the league's worst defense for the last two years would not only not bail him out, but it would also put him into difficult situations. Tebow is being set up to look bad while the Broncos will once again languish as one of the NFL's worst teams, and their front office will then have an excuse to cut him after the season is over.

I suspect such mockery is born mostly out of jealousy.

Tebow should be happy. He's a crappy football player and look how much people talk about him.

The thing that gets me is Denver seems like they want him to fail, let him do what he does best....hurry up spread. Not I form. Get him some time let him evolve. It's like trying to make Brady be a option qb

I Personally hate Tebow cause he was basiclly handed his career from the fans he collected and not through Talent yes he was good in college but not even has good as people think.

He is not a good Pro QB but cause people like him he gets what he wants

Quite right. Would this guy have even been a first round pick had he not been Tim Tebow?

Your crazy to call him a crappy football player, crappy is a guy who has no skill set and no motivation
