Pioli was a HORRIBLE drafter, just look how much better the team has drafted since he has gone.

Weiss isn't doing anything good for Florida and the type of defense Crennel runs does not work against good teams in the NFL anymore.

BB misses these guys. I hope this just isn't in response to yesterday but I think in recent playoff appearances it shows, we've gotten outcoached in several key situations and haven't had any answers once a team figures out a way to exploit something.

Lately the personnel moves have been questionable as well. Last year I would've said no on Pioli, but the 2009 draft/offsesaon is looking worse by the day aside from Chung/Vollmer

This is incorrect.

It's a hell of a lot better than what the Chiefs got out of that draft.

I agree Pioli is not a horrible drafter, he is a good drafter. I would say getting 1 hit, and 2 role players per draft is damn good.

So in Pioli's time here they had 9 drafts, drafter 77 players here is what I got

14 players who were/are impact players and would start on any team
12 players who played a role in winning games and would start on a lot of teams
49 misses

Hit 18.1% (over 1 hit per draft)
Role 15.5% (over 1 role player per draft)

This is just my opinion.

1) I've seen KC frustrate the hell out of Manning while RAC was at the helm, and we have a lot more talent on D than KC does.

2) a BB defense isn't exactly gangbusters against good teams either.

I would have gladly taken RAC back, I was also interested in mike Nolan after McDaniels fired him.

Pioli's last couple of drafts seem to have been excellent. The problem in New England may have been the odds evening out, it may have been a pairing (BB/Pioli) that just got stale, it may have been one or the other having a rough patch and bringing the other down, etc.... Whatever it was, there was an issue that happened with the 2006-2008 drafts that resulted in players who either never made it or flamed out quickly. I think it's fair to ask what that issue was. I just think people trying to blame it all on Pioli are insane.

As an aside, your analysis doesn't take into account several points which are essential to any such analysis, such as where the picks were made and the talent already on the team doing the drafting.

06 thru 08 were his correct..........that is one of the key reasons we are sucking wind now because of those horrid drafts. Those players should be in the prime of their careers forming the core of the Pats O and D and yet there is not 1 player left on the roster.

Greetings,
What about Mayo??

Beyond the drafting aspect which is debatable I think one place they may miss Pioli is stability. I think it was Patriot Reign but it could have been elsewhere that it was stated that Pioli often was the voice of reason getting Bellichick to slow down and not act rashly. I have to wonder if certain moves such as cutting Sanders, Butler and Bodden might not have happened. Granted none of them are world beaters but they add good depth and have to be better than what we've seen lately.
